There is a place across the side street from Safe Marine that sells all of the commercial fishing supplies for the PP fleet. Watch out for the dog pack that lives around that place, about twenty of them, all bark and no bite though.
I was the guy that brought in all of the fishing gear at the Sun & Fun Dive Shop back in those days, now a pretty good farmacia. We really made a killin then. Sometimes sold out everything in one weekend. We would fill a deep freeze with frozen bait like shrimp, squid, clams and belly meat strips and sell out everything by Sunday afternoon. Felipe from the Malecon made a wad from us in those days.
Back then we paid a local PP security company to wire the joint up and physically check the place every hour or so during the night. Less than two weeks later we get a late night call from the Policia Municipal that the place had been robbed. Someone had brought a twenty foot ladder, cut the single telephone wire on the roof (the alarm wire), moved the AC over a few feet and completely emptied the place of every item related to fishing and scuba. We lost about thirty thousand dollars of goods. The security company couldn't be held responsible even though they were obviously complicit. The silent alarm was supposedly connected to the police headquarters but for some strange reason it didn't work. The police showed up but only after the place had been thoroughly gutted.
Oh well, La Sabor de Mexico.
