Rumors of death and destruction..........in Mexico.

Good way to keep those pesky gringos out of town and spend their money elsewhere.

I admit that when my northerly friends -- with wide-eyed concern -- ask, "But aren't you afraid to travel down there?" I tell them, "Why yes. Be afraid -- very afraid." Then I head south and enjoy a pristine beach. Selfish, I know . .

Ain't that the truth........

I gave up on encouraging anyone here in Yuma to make the trip south years ago, especially since in the thirty plus years that I have spent in Puerto Penasco I have never been shot, mugged, robbed or burglarized by anyone!

Whereas here in Yuma someone has their eyes on you and your possessions every minute of the day and night. I've had the props stolen off of my boat as it sat attached to my truck in front of my house in broad daylight as I was loading up to head south.

The only thing I've ever been "afraid" of is the dirty criminal cops in El Golfo and on the outskirts of Penasco. They can be pretty scary to a first timer gringo family with little or no comprehension of the local lingua.

Although, I must report that they no longer set up the ripoff road blocks on the Coastal Highway as was SOP in past times.

I personally enjoy the fact that my neighborhood in Mirador is basically a ghost town now. The bars have all gone out of business and we can actually get a nights sleep with the doors and windows wide open and listen to Mocking Birds all night instead of the moronic brain dead blasting of Mexican Rap "music".

There was much too-doo over this on Facebook; the vigilantes. Don't know if it's legit in any way or not. But that's because I pay very little attention to Facebook.

Speaking of Jerry... anybody see him lately? Apparently he meant it when he announced his retirement from the forum May 22 on a thread I wasn't following. He lit up everyone at one time or another, including me, but he did provide a lot of content and stimulated others to do the same. And he knew a lot even if I couldn't always following what he was saying. But I miss him. Wish he'd come back.
