Anyone selling a decent car?

Even with the high costs of airfares around Christmas, it will be cheaper for the four of us to fly than drive to PHX. Anyone know anyone selling a decent car that we can keep in PP (with Mex ins of course) so we don't have to rent every time we fly in? Thanx in advance!

Why not buy & store a car in Phoenix? Fly to Phoenix, get the car out of storage, drive to RP, back to Phoenix, storage, & airport. How much do you want to spend for a car?

My neighbor down the way has a decent looking 4 door Chev pickup for sale. I checked it out but really don't need another vehicle. As I recall it's a 2500 Silverado, 2001 model I think.. It's got all the bells and whistles like leather, power seats, etc. It's a crew cab short and two wheel drive. He said he would sell it for 5000. I think he said it has 130 K miles. He says he drives it back and forth to somewhere in Scottsdale. I think it needs a couple tires.

We're looking at CraigsList in Phoenix for a car/minivan (must seat 4 + luggage ) up to about $5000 to keep available for when we fly in each time. (This rental would've been $1500+) We might be able to store it at a friend's house in Gilbert, or maybe will look into a storage garage. We're flying in on Dec 17th. We might have to stay 1 night in Phoenix to do this. Hope to check a couple of cars, buy, get MX insurance and leave for PP by 2 to be there by 6 (what time does it get dark?) You think that's plausible? We were figuring a dealership because they can get the registration/paperwork done easier.

Please keep the ideas coming. If you know someone who is selling, or know of a reputable dealer (or one to stay away from), please let me know.

This is currently one we're considering: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/ctd/4729706972.html

JWT--Thanks, but I think we're looking more at a minivan than a truck. I'll check w/ Eric.

My nephew has a 2002 Ford Focus Wagon for sale. It has 34500 original miles and is in very good condition. Power windows, door locks, cruise, etc. He bought it from an older lady who bought it new. The picture below is not his car but it looks just like it, silver in color. Gets 29 mpg on the highway. He is asking 4K.

Hey LS--could you have your nephew email me with photos, details, maintenance records, etc?

Thanks Jerry. We've done that through Buffalo car rentals where they brought us back and forth and we rented a smaller car while we were there. We are hoping to buy to save money on the rental costs long term. I expect we'll be down 2-3x per year and it won't take long to break even.

Just be aware that the worst thing you can do with a vehicle is to leave it sit. Factor in high maintenance. You will need to pay storage to keep it safe. Battery will go dead and you will arrive to spend a day or so fixing it. Tires will rot. Vehicle will be filthy. You are thinking about increasing your stress when you visit !!

Denise, sorry but the Focus has already been sold. Several people were fighting over it, offering more than asking price.

Hello. I live in Rocky Point and have a 2003 Ford Expedition for sale. I recently bought a smaller car in Phoenix and had thought about either selling the Expedition in Phoenix or here. Here's the info. I am the second owner, the first was my ex who takes excellent care of vehicles and sells them after 2 years to buy new ones. I have maintained it well, regular oil changes, etc. My "other half" is elderly and needs to see his doctors regularly (about every two weeks in Phoenix) which is the main reason that I decided to buy a smaller, more economical and newer car in case of emergencies.

The vehicle has almost 200,000 miles. Fully loaded, never any damage, but just little things from time to time. Please let me know if you'd like to see it, drive it, etc. and get more information. I know it well! I'm asking $3500 firm (low Kelley blue book is $4,600.)
