Cool kayak! It should be a blast.
A fishfinder is not necessary. I can count the number of times a fishfinder has made a difference on 1 finger (it helped me find a little reef but in retrospect I can see the darker spot in the water so it really didn't help).
A fishfinder can be interesting to...
Those fish aren't like over-pressured spooky lake fish. I can't imagine line would matter. I bet they'd hit a shiny piece of a coke can on a piece of string.
Weather and currents out there are not to be taking lightly. Many times I've hooked a fish on the kayak and by the time I get it off the hook I've drifted at least a half mile.
I fish that reef all the time. It's a 2 mile paddle from where we stay on Encanto. That's easy if the wind and current...
I bought a nice rod and reel, but most of my good fish seem to have come on my walmart catfish combo with the spinning reel spooled with the factory 10 lb. mono.
On the kayak, troll a 3-4" blue rapala just outside the wave break any evening for Corvina.
There are tons of biting gnats across the estuary at encanto.
There were swarms of mosquitos in las conchas in June.
Bring bug spray or pick some up at la farmacia. They have the good stuff with deet
Thanks
The bodega had no swimsuits. We got one at the shop with all the pool toys just as you're driving into the port area.
Bug spray was available at a pharmacy in the same area
I'll be down at the same time, just up the beach on Encanto.
I've caught plenty of Corvina down there just past outside the wave break in my kayak. Troll rapala or similar. I seem to do best around sunset or when the tide is running.
Caught one Grouper ever from the kayak maybe a 3/4 mile out...
