Trash on the beach …. A Herculean Effort

This spring fresh off her Camino de Santiago Spain hike honoring her late husband's battle with ASL a Santo Tomas owner spent a few months cleaning the beach from ST south maybe 3 miles to the radio tower and then North to the point (5 miles) . 1000s of pounds of plactic …. pretty amazing but we really need to ban this crap…the near hurricane that came basically took the pristine beach and churned up another plastic bounty that laid below.

Hate to say it but the Mexican fisherman throw everything overboard. Add wind blown trash from the poorly managed “landfills” and you have a lot of trash on the beach. My favorite is the diesel filters tossed overboard by the shrimpers. We pick up trash on Miramar as a walk-workout and walk for a few miles in each direction of our house With our bags and pickers. 99% of the trash is of Mexican origination.

We pick up trash on the beaches between Isla Del Mar and Laguna Shores. Closer to Isla Del Mar we get a lot of trash that might have started from the beaches at Cholla, but the vast majority is from fishing boats including lines and plastic oil jugs.

Dirtsurfer, we do the same, walking and picking up trash as a workout. I separate recycling and trash, taking recycling back to Tucson. I used to collect seashells but this is more gratifying

Could be looking for missing people. That would be more helpful then picking up trash on the beach.

What a dick comment. So are you out looking ? by the way this search has been pointless due to water temps for the last two days and just might get people hurt for a feel good moment. You dont know the area drive north or south of Desemboque low tide line near dusk can get stuck easy or crash into beach debris. The cartel war is still on down here and the one in partial control patrol constantly. They would have found him by now.

If I was down there me and my family would give a helping hand looking.
You have your nerve "by the way this search has been pointless due to water temps for the last two days". Thats an ass of hope comment.

No it’s science as far as survival at sea goes. On land a bunch of white goobers with lightbars barreling down the beach south of the spit at dusk could get shot up. The night it happened I got word to my my friend that was down and his boys were on it. I heard later the St guys got ahold of the guys in Ejido Utima (sp?) that patrol up the San Jorge way ( they already knew)

If you trash pickers want a real windfall, take a short trip down to Bahia San Jorge. You can avoid the gated entrance and the asshole guard that thinks he has total command over that stretch of beach by turning off a mile or so north of the sign and gate. There is an adobe building at the turnoff in its last stages of melting away into history. Don't stop though as every human bean that passes it has deposited his or her share of shit in and outside of the shack. Wanna study black shit eating flies? This dirt road will lead you over to the big fish camp and ruins of the gold milling and pier where the gold was loaded onto pangas then out to sea where the big ships anchored. On the way you will pass literally tons of rotting bycatch and the remains of whatever the pangeros "cleaned" before shipping it back to PP in "refrigerated" box trucks.

Take a left turn on the beach, once there toss your ride into 4x4 and plow your way thru the deep soft sand and before you realize it you will be on the filthiest beach that you can possibly imagine. The marine trash of which 99% is without a doubt tossed overboard by the lazy Mexican fishermen is an absolute wonderment.

Most of the beach trail above the high tide line is nothing but solid garbage. As you drive, the sound of bursting soda pop bottles will give the place an eerie background effect. In some places the crap has been windblown beyond the beach fifty or sixty feet. The windrows of plastic and glass bottles, beer cans, fish nets, fish traps, light bulbs, shrimp sorting gloves, white fisherman boots, mismatched flip-flops, designer sports shoes, peptobismal bottles, hydration drink bottles, kids toys, womens bras and panties, boogie boards, rotoplast kayaks, boat scrap and dead animal bones and carcasses is beyond belief and actually several feet deep in places.

And Gringos actually have luxury beach homes there!

Might take a hundred semi truck trailer loads just to make a dent in it.

Just saying,

JJ

The turn off to the gold hut and fish camp is just past km 31, sometimes can be a rough crappy road.. The fisherman are happy to sell some of their daily catch.. Fish, clams, crabs and sea snails.. and a hairy big clam they call callo.. (scallops).. a couple months ago we went through the guard gate to visit Arturo, the guy that thinks he owns it all and had lunch, also saw Bart's and his family of sea qypsies old compound and it looked better than ever. With the tide in the long beach to the east of the fish camp is one of the prettiest beaches in this area.. If you go try to arrive around noon to watch the pangas come in with their catch..

The place is a dump, not sure why anybody would buy out there.. Toward the end of the subdivision is a large fenced area, Arturo say's its going to be a big marina.. the water is so shallow there, they would be digging for years..
