Anyone doing this run? I want to run it .it would be my first time.what can i expect ?

So i guss the big question is is it safe ? I used to go there 2-3 times a year but moved back east for a few yrs and now all i hear is not to go .I love that place .any thoughts would be appreciated . and do you need a passport to get back to the usa
