So after a busy week of hosting another RV club excursion to Rocky Point, I thought I would take a minute and do a snapshot of the economic impact that these groups have on our little community.
Not all groups or individuals have the same economic impact, some will spend more per person and some will spend less, but these numbers in this note represent actual dollars that are directly put into our economy with a group that is still here in Rocky Point and will be leaving Saturday March 12 2016. As a group they had many of their activities already lined out for them, like meals, and tours.....etc. This is the beauty of group travel. So here’s the numbers.
RV Park rent for 5 nights $2520.00
Restaurant meals as a group $3130.00
Tips to waiters for group meals $626.00
DIF Sonoyta donation $200.00
Day touring $1100.00
Sunset cruise $1100.00
Local Taxi services $525.00
Est Local shopping $1800.00 (18 couples est 100.00 per)
Purchase of shrimp or seafood to take home est $1000.00
Est Local groceries purchased $1800.00 (18 couples est 100.00 per)
Work done on Rigs while in park, (IE wash, wax, body work) $900.00 est
Group impact on Rocky Point for 5 days 14,701.00
That is 163.00 per day per couple spent on a mini vacation.
Keep in mind these are people who stay in their own rig, they have no negative impact on our community and they all have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Peñasco Recreation is extremely proud of our relationship with the traveling groups of RV’s that we have had the great fortune of dealing with for the past 5 years.
This year alone we hosted Sun City RV, Rambling Suns RV, 3 private unnamed groups, Escapees Mexican Connection, and Fantasy Caravans. That amounts to 159 rigs just for our one company. Add to that all of the individual RVs that are here in Playa de Oro, Playa Bonita, Las Conchas RV park, and The Reef RV park, as well as smaller in town spaces for RV’s. 2016 was good, maybe 2017 will be great!?
The RV community is a major economic engine for tourism in Rocky Point. I feel that we should do what we can to encourage more groups to visit. What do you think?

Of course, any positive force which contributes to the local economy should be lauded and encouraged.

Nice report.....to bad the condo hustlers wrecked the feel of the place and bladed some nice rv habitat in 2005 boom to bust...
MIRAMAR
There is still plenty of rv hookups in the Mirador area- I think there's room for all, and the Mirador is happy to have them.
Hobie Vern
Lot of people here at PDO and room for more.

We crossed into Mexico today, Sunday at noon with no line and were given the green light. The US northbound traffic was already backed up to Wendy's with much more on the way, as we witnessed on the drive from Sonoyta to Rocky Point. The weather and beach are beautiful as always and we are looking forward to a relaxing week.

nice report Russ - as a very small part of the travelling RV community, it's nice to see some local appreciation for the dollars spent and the low-impact of RV'ers. I look forward to when we can spend more time on the beach at PDO - this work thing is slowly coming to an end. At least we can look forward to Thanksgiving again :-)
have a super summer!

Before you take another caravan to PP take a look at the Playa De Oro RV park.
Excellent security , very clean park , sometime internet and great folks. Nice family type bar next door on the beach, sand floors. We have stayed there for many years, love it and have never had any issues with it. Daily, monthly or by the year.
