All over town mostly homes have no water and have had none for days. Las Conchas is a DRY community' Word is things will get better in a week or so. I have not been able to determine what the problem is. some say a pump or two on the wells failed, the more cynical have a different story.
There are several new trucks hauling water and will fill your tank if you have one for two or three times what you are paying for unlimited supply from the city. don't have a tank, you are SOL I guess. Seems to be plenty of water to fill the trucks but little for the residential lines. I wonder who owns the trucks???

Anyone know if condo row has water? Hotels?
How much are they asking for a full truck, 10,000 liter local delivery?
Thanks.
Is there a government agency that gives reports on future water supply or does everyone just assume there will be an endless supply until one day the wells go dry? I know there's areas in northern Az that all the wells have gone dry and now have to haul it.
And the way houses are going up in phx, is crazy....
Residential development and living space consumes far less water than agriculture, especially if one is growing cotton. For many years residential construction has replaced much of our farming areas. This has effectively improved the water supply/usage issue. That said, the influx of people in to Arizona will sooner or later begin to b=negatively impact our water supply.
So this is what people have been telling me for 20 years....."water is the next new war"......when you know you have to order it and you use it wisely....that may make it easier when the taps go shut. If you use it like a wild man because it is easily available and you dont have to order it and it is on demand....then one day it stops.........crickets........
In talking to the long time, water truck, delivery guys over the past year, their version of the various city water shortages have ranged from the past administration's failure to pay their water and electric bills to seriously neglected well maintenance and replacement, leaving the aging wells in poor condition for the future.
A friend sent an article on it and I can't get it to download. Apparently there was 11 wells and they are down to 5 that are still functioning. They say the lines are 50 years old and need replacing because they leak and won't hold pressure. They need at least 2 new wells to meet demand. From what I was told they don't have the funds to do it.
Regardless of what you "hear" the wells are being refurbished right now.
Really good they are doing this. Over time, repair & maintenance will be the key as well as adding an alternate water source such as a desal plant to give the wells a much needed break. A state of the art desal plant would make RP a model city for others to follow.
An interesting 38 page study, "Chapter 3, Puerto Penasco," published by U of A about 4 years ago. http://udallcenter.arizona.edu/sarp/pdf/Ch3_PuertoPenasco.pdf Moving Forward from Vulnerability to Adaptation: Climate Change, Drought, and Water Demand in the Urbanizing Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico.
"Located within the Sonoyta River watershed, Puerto Peñasco is part of the Comisión Nacional del
Agua’s (CONAGUA) Hydrologic Region 8 and it is one of four municipalities in the Sonoyta-Peñasco
aquifer. Puerto Peñasco obtains its water supply from 11 deep wells, ranging from 58 m (280 ft) to
200 m (656 ft) in depth; however, only eight of the 11 wells are operational. Each well field pumps
out approximately 360 liters of water per second (lps). According to CONAGUA, overdrafting of the
aquifers occurred as early as 1978. Such overdrafting has led to increased threat of saline intrusion
and land subsidence. According to the 2005 CONAGUA report, no new wells should be drilled due
to the still-current overdrafting issues and the persistent deficit in the water balance (i.e., extractions
are greater than recharge). Instead, the state water agency, Comisión Estatal del Agua (CEA), has
called for new water sources and conservation measures to be explored as a means of supporting the
region’s new population growth."
Funny Roberto pero I live in Lopez Portillo and I have never been without water this year
Funny pero my post is obviously something I made up what with me being a hater and all. My guess is you have a tank and would not be aware that the street supply is gone.
What a joke. Why are people comparing Mexican water mismanagement to that one of Arizona water mismanagement? Arizona politicians took the bribe money from copper mining cartel that are pushing for two major copper mines to be opened in AZ where they would destroy aquifers. Why compare yourself to the worse?

I have had a tank since 2001 oh so like over 15 years and I have never been out of water. blame me for being proactive and not a victim.

Yes I blame you for this and lots of other things too and am telling every one in Pensco about it too !! You'll be sorry.
Again another Russ objection to reporting troublesome but important news. No wonder Jerry left the forum.
Odd use of words there. Lots of folks here cannot afford a tank or a pump but I do not see them as victims. Well maybe of an inept or corrupt govt.
Point is or was that the street supply has been absent more than usual and yes if you have a tank and are careful you should have no problem. I capture the condensate from my AC and use it to do laundry and water plants.
Roberto do you have nothing better to do. Laundry with condensation from A/C how lucky you are. Many people in RP would love to have A/C and that extra water.

Uh, blame Roberto for being proactive! He didn't say he was "better" than anybody or not a "victim" just because he conserves water like that. He wasn't comparing himself to anybody without AC - talk about a STRETCH!!!!
I'm so sick and tired of this back and forth shit about who is better than who! How many times do the rest of us neutral people say that we want ALL THE INFORMATION - BOTH GOOD AND BAD - about Rocky Point - NOT JUST THE GOOD AND NOT JUST THE BAD! (Yes, I'm yelling thus, all caps). If people are too stupid or ignorant to decipher the information then that's their problem isn't it?
Over and over, for years now, I've said I like Russ' contributions and I like Jerry's contributions also. You will never hear Jerry touting the Mermaid's market - but you will also never hear Russ telling you about cartel activity. I WANT BOTH CONTRIBUTIONS! WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE ONE OR THE OTHER????????????????????????????????????????
Roberto is a long-time Rocky Point resident and a contributor of very valuable information. If it's true that Jerry left the forum it's because all of the people who don't want to hear ANYTHING the least bit negative ran him off. Obviously now these same people are going to try to run Roberto off.
All you are going to be left with in this forum is a bunch of information about which restaurant has the best egg breakfasts and where the next craft market is going to be.
IS THAT REALLY ALL YOU WANT FROM THIS FORUM? OR DO YOU WANT REAL INFORMATION - THE GOOD AND THE BAD??????? THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!
Also, take a minute to remember that Stuart and Tyler keep this forum going out of the goodness of their hearts and don't need to deal with all this bullshit.

That's it...I'm gonna start selling things at the Mermaids market made just for cartel members and their families....there I said cartel in my comment. on edit...I hate getting yelled at.

Um, I know you're "worked up" about the Roberto-Russ cat fight, but I have no interest in contention. I think you may have misunderstood: My response was to Mexico Joe's political bait, which I didn't take. Common, Mis -- you and I agree on almost every post.
I don't do cat fights. I sometimes just disagree with people. If you see your glass as half empty....stop complaining and pour it into a smaller glass
Well – a quick little scrap, maybe. And I defend your self-defense. As with I am with Mis, Russ, I usually am right with you on your posts, and always appreciate your positive input. As for my 2 cents on the subject, I too, have tanks. No shortage here. But in talking with a local friend, learned that some residents have almost zero water pressure . . . can’t flush . . . can’t shower . . . due to work on aging system. I feel bad for them, and hope the city remedies the situation soon. (As for tourists, businesses have tanks – so keep coming!)

LOL - I did misunderstand - I forgot about Mex Joe's post! Sorry Southbeacher! How could you tell I was worked up? LOL I stay quiet for the most part for the last couple of years, but sometimes I just need to let it all out.

Come on Roberto. There are a lot of us who have tanks, and also conserve. We don't need to get nasty saying "I'll tell everyone in town and you'll be sorry!" Because someone has a tank?? Anyone who lives down in Penasco in a severe desert better have a water storage system and conserve like crazy.
The crystal clear fresh water pool at my condo in Mirador contains more than 100,000 gallons of the good stuff.
We have buckets that we use to flush the head as well as shower when the local system fails. We only drink RO or bottled water and RO ice, even in Yuma.
The "street" water system fills 500 gallon tanks on the roofs of the three story buildings that gives us "good" water pressure.
We therefore do not have to depend on the local system when it has it's occasional hiccups. If things get too "shitty" we just load up and head back home!
And yes Joe, as King Hussein has declared, ISIS is the product of "global warming". Makes me wonder how Ali Baba and his 40 ever made it through those summers without AC.

Really, you thought Roberto was serious when he wrote this?... "Yes I blame you for this and lots of other things too and am telling every one in Pensco about it too !! You'll be sorry.".... I mean, really?
After reading this thread now and how it's turned into a BS fest, I have to say that, I'm really missing Jerry's input and comments. (Good and not as good)
Don't stay away too long. :)
Ha, you'd have thought Roberto was gloating over the fact that he had water when other's less fortunate or as smart as him didn't. Oh wait, that was Russ!

You guy's do know the rock pile is on hold again, right?
Bitch fest over, so what is the current status of the water system? Also can you folks show some respect to the forum and delete your posts that have no relevance to the subject matter?

What a great contribution that was. Okay I'll play your stupid game. LOOK AT ME! I'M JUST LIKE MARISA AND SCREAM TOO. No reply necessary, just scroll on by. On edit, please add me to your ignore list if you find nothing of value.
Here is the spoon-feed version, as I understand it: People with water tanks (and businesses as well, as they use water tanks) are not experiencing a problem. Some residents with city water in some areas are experiencing low water pressure because workers are repairing an aging piping system.
You realize how stupid you sound? What you said to me is the equivalent of me saying to you "Must not have gotten any from your wife last night." Don't need a crystal ball to see how you're voting this year.

Not nearly as much as you have. :) And now you steep to a new low with insults to others loved ones that aren't even involved. You are some tool. I'm sure you have a fan club that will come to your rescue.

Are you dense or what? Dry Heat isn't a "tool" for insinuating that I'm menstruating???? I don't have time for you and your bullshit . . . you and people like you are the reason why so many good people have left this forum. It's all yours buddy - you can stay here with the rest of the "tools". I feel bad for all the normal people who are still here that have to put up with the likes of people like you. You have all of 15 messages and 4 likes on this forum - a wealth of knowledge and contribution.
Yuuuuuuugggge  at all of you! Seems like a good ol' fashioned pissin' contest; the only thing missing is Happy.
I've been at Whale Hill and REALLY needed a shower after a day of fishing and... discovered that if I do it right, I can shower using 2.5 bottled waters. We used an AC condensate line to fill a bucket and flush the toilet. It ain't pretty, but you find ways to get by, hoping there will be water manana.
Haven't seen a good bitch slappin' behind Gau-Gau in ages!! :p

This made me laugh- my wife is from Navojoa in the south of Sonora and it is part of her Mom's daily morning ritual to "water the dirt". They don't call it "Polvo-joa" for nothing LOL.
Ask anyone around town and then apologize for being a dick on this forum. It would be nice to hear from the rational and crazy and not the...bait or fish
Las Conchas is doing ok, filling their main storage tanks as water is available and then rotating service to about 1/3 of the residence on a rotating basis to fill individual cisterns. Seems to be working
It seems to me there is going to be a major problem with all of the water mains a n distribution lines in the city.
Almost daily you can drive around and see workers fixing bad lines or water just flowin into the streets.
With all of the new road work I have seen I haver never seen any watetline replacement at the same time.
Seems as in the USA we have zoning , and that is questionable, and no planing dept.
Two weeks ago Sinaloa in Mirador was awash at the foot of the hill heading to la playa. We thought "Oh sheet, hope we got agua"! That was until I saw the flotsam line of TP and little bits of Snickers.
And AZ, when I go carpin I usually use my M1 Garand that way I don't have to scale em.
A couple of dumb questions from una tourista muy ignorante.
Is there a sewage system in PP? If so where is the treatment plant? The Pitahaya in Mirador uses big pipes that drain theirs directly into the sea, you can see them when diving off there, always lots of chubby Cochies and Cabrillas nearby enjoying the stew. What about Las Conchas, where does that all go? Years back I had a house in the old part of town that had a septic tank that filled up every four of five months, what a pain in the culo that was. If the water system barely works how can a sewage system work?

The condos have a sewer system that reclaims and treats the water for the golf courses and to water the road to Cholla Bay.
One treatment plant is at the west end of Rodeo drive another on the northside of the road driving past the Sonoran properties.
Most everything in Cholla Bay and much of the older parts of RP have septic systems.
There might be some houses/businesses on sewer systems but I'm not aware of any other than the condos.
Also two years ago Borracho flats in Cholla (east end as you drive in) had water/sewer and street lights installed..
Unconscious is all on septic tanks. There are sewer line throughout the Mirador and many other locals in town. Treatment lagoon is on the far south eastern part of town near the RR line. you can smell it sometimes.

You are an idiot... my comment was directed to the once a month keyboard battle that goes on. Interesting that you read so much into my simple comment of 'must be that time of the month' to the point of assuming that a comment was directed at you and your menstrual cycle. My comment was in general to the thread. I will repeat... you are an idiot.
If properly managed septic tanks seldom fail. Add 3 packs of Brewers Dry Yast 3 times a year and they consume the solids.
Also use the Yellow be Mellow and only flush solids. Sinks showers drain to plants in the yards. Move drain line once every two weeks to prevent smells
Saves water and beautifys the landscape AND IT DOES WORK

Absolutely true if the tank and leach fields were designed and installed properly.

It was directed toward the 3-5 members who were battling it out over something stupid (applied to the same men/women who bitch about something on a monthly basis.) It wasn't directed toward any specific person, just a general statement about the thread. stop being a sensitive tonto

No we still have shortages due to equipment failure and that same equipment being repaired or replaced. I don't have the current status of the repairs but I have been told to expect intermittent water on my side of town for a few weeks while new stuff gets installed. We will conserve.
Well that's not going to happen with a little rain will not Replenish water table conserve drill more wells and desalination but that takes a lot of money. Even though it is not convenient that in Cholla we have to truck our water in I don't care makes you conservative and at the same time we are supporting the local water truck owners and drivers.
+1 on supporting the water truck owners and drivers. At my place in Cholla having only 600 gallons of water to use in-between fill ups
does make you conserve.
When all 4 of our kids come down that 600 gallons goes in 4-5 days even with the yellow brown rule of flushing.
Our 2 girls don't know anything but taking 20+ min showers.
I would rather not install more water capacity per their suggestions.
