You might stop by and ask them if they are in violation of the Lacey Act (U.S.C. SS 3371-3378) for their own protection. Every little bit will help towards conserving the Sea of Cortez. I always ask vendors if I see mahi mahi or billfish offered for sale. They usually tell me they don't know, but it can't hurt to get the word out.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Lacey Act, it's a Federal law that prohibits trade in wildlife, fish, and plants that have been illegally taken, possessed, transported or sold. This would include dorado and bill fish taken by long liners on The Sea of Cortez. The penalties should be prohibitive for vendors in the US. There's a two page detailed thread about it entitled: Fish Mafia of Guaymas / illegal long lining in Gulf on the San Carlos forum at http://sancarlosmx.mywowbb.com/forum2 It's a little more than halfway down the first page by now. It's important that we try to save what is left of one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the world.
