I have it and use it some but don't like it. There are a few English language RP groups but they don't seem to have much action. Like The Real Rocky Point. I would prefer to leave it as is. It might increase the AHo## factor. I voted no.
I use FB very often it is a great platform when used correctly and horrible when used to sponsor political ideas...but I would use either platform for Rocky Point conversations.

I am afraid that the FB RPT will attract the many FB people who can't even tie their own shoes without asking someone how or why or ask for the billionth time "Do I need a passport" ?
So many of the questions you read on the other FB RP pages could be answered if people weren't so lazy as to do a simple search.
And then you see 5 different answers of which 1-2 are correct and then FB hides many comments by stacking them, so they aren't seen so there too are multiple answers.

it's not a perfect platform, it was designed to check out girls in college so it may have lost its way guey!

I'm not a Facebook fan for many reasons. I had an account but deleted it about a year ago. Too time consuming, too much drama (over everything), Facebook censors, advertises, and sells the crap out of your data. There are too many of those "that are easily offended" and social justice warrior types on Facebook.
I'd prefer to keep this site, its adult nature, but have no objection to a Facebook offshoot of same.

Cannot find it of course but here's a short description, She decided to mirror the Facebook process in her daily life. Greeting strangers in the street and commenting on what she had for breakfast, etc. etc. She routinely asked people to follow her. She said it worked as she had a detective, one police and a mental health worker following her !! Poor description but I hope you get the hilarity.

A really great read about how social media works , Facebook's business tactics and moral foundation. Hard to understand why someone worth BILLIONS works to brutally acquire more $$$.
I personally think this whole process of social media growth will implode in some way at some time.
The problem with Facebook is that you see everything. The beauty of a discussion forum is that it segregates subjects so you can ignore what you don't care about, and moderators can toss posts that are out of line or off topic.
There are three or four Facebook groups dedicated to Rocky Point. I recently joined one them just to see what I was missing. The answer is not much, or maybe I just joined the wrong group. Nothing is done on Facebook that couldn't be done here. Also, if you join several groups you'll get a ton of posts and have to scroll through everything and end of missing some unless you're on Facebook all the time. Facebook is now being used for things it was never designed for, and that creates problems.
Tells you all is ponies and Unicorns...no bad press ( well until a moderator gets a speeding ticket)
Tells you where to buy crappy frozen shrimp
Tells you your condo rental fees are reasonable
Tells you you're stupid and deserve it if the police stop you

What I like about this forum is how clean and segregated different topics are. You can find what you want find very easily. Facebook throws everything in, AND The kitchen sink, all in a flowing thread. For example, when we get off topic on a certain thread, people start getting called out for hijacking that thread. People like to stay on topic. With Facebook, it is nothing but hijacked constantly. Someone asks about what the best charter is to rent to go fishing, and on Facebook, all the sudden there’s a political discussion, or people talking about black lives matter, global warming, and everything else under the sun. It’s a joke. I have a Facebook page, but I’ve never put a picture on it, and I’ve never posted a comment. I primarily use it when somebody points me to a reason I should check something out.
I am definitely for keeping this forum as is. What really sucks though, is if people start flooding over to the Facebook Rocky point Talk site, there will be even less activity here. Which would be a real shame

I think the cause of the differences between the quality of posts here and Facebook has a similar explanation to the reason you have the president that you do. Most people don't want to think, but just react. Many are easily moved by superficiality and enjoy being hysterical. It's frightening to me.
Read Eric Fromm's Escape From Freedom for insight. Yeah I know What me read a book? I'll just check the internet and see what Gundry MD has to say. I gave up television over 20 years ago when I realized it was all about what someone else wants you to do or think. Now the internet has started to fulfill that lack of function. And the best part is it's interactive and I can have my say. I'm finding the internet to be less and less useful. You have to work at it. Watch Gundry MD's garbage or take the time to search NIH for information. Frankly I do not understand how he gets away with the crap he puts on the net and how he does it.

The forum has obviously been a springboard for the new Facebook and an obvious possible springboard for a new forum for Penasco. The original forum was certainly a springboard for the existing one.
They all kept things lively that's for sure. Did not think anyone else would remember Sub and the Walmart wars. I heard from Haps for awhile but not recently. Hey he could be the moderator !!

This website costs me money every month and is dying, forums aren't used much when most people have moved to social media, hence the suggestion.
Our facebook group now has 461 members on it, more than this forum has active users.

If you started a Patreon account and asked for a donation of $1 a month I'm sure you would get more that enough to cover your costs as well as compensation for your time. I currently donate $29 a month on Patreon between four different YouTube channels I watch. Totally worth it.
For the sake of your poll, yes I have a FB account, and no I don't use it. Had my marketing guy make it just for my business when having all the social media platforms tagged to your website was some kind of status thing. I looked at it once years ago. I'm sure it's a valuable tool for those who like it, just not my thing. I'll be around here for as long as this forum is up, but doubt I'd follow on FB.
I would hate to see this go FB only. I believe there are already several RP groups already on FB so not sure if another one is really needed. I truly get that this is an expense for you Tyler and you are not seeing much bang for your buck. That being said, there may be some folks who frequent the site that may be happy to take it over financially rather than seeing it die.
I joined this forum almost 5 years ago. Never have been able to post until today. I have enjoyed reading the posts (good or bad) for many years even before I joined. One of my favorites has to be Green Valley Jack, as I am also from Green Valley. We have visited Rocky Point every year for 14 years now, many times bringing family and friends. Forum staff is to commended for a great job moderating arguments. But that is what I think makes this forum a good read. "When all men think alike few men think at all". I would be happy to subscribe $12 a year if for this forum, if needed to keep it open. You have been well worth it. I am not a fan of facebook.
Yeah I miss Ole Cactus on the Forum. Just don't go drinkin with him when he is here. The police here have managed to reduce the size of the force since he quit coming down.
