Does anyone know if they are allowing people into Mexico towing ATV's or side by sides? Not sure if they are still on essential traffic only.
Hobie Vern
Go to the "General" section. There's 38 pages about it.

Pretty sure you'll be ok, we are waiting for reports on social media how things are going since the main cheese on here missed his ride, if you cross today can you report back how it went, should have no problems if you have reservation.
Roberto
Yep, missed my ride but in a fit of pique, went ahead and drove myself to Sonoyta in a recently acquired vehicle. Got to the border no problems and realized I neglected to get day insurance since the trip was not planned to drive. Insurance office at the border would not sell day insurance for the US so I drove back to Penasco. At the sanitary barrier there were maybe 5 cars in line and 4 or so big rigs. None in the residents line as it was blocked. Lots of workers in all sorts of uniforms were mixing it up with the drivers checking paperwork and pointing where to go next. Vehicles squeezed into one line and had to fight the big rigs for a place in line. Big rigs were blocking the residents line. Driver in front of me, 4 back from the front of the line hopped out , ran to the shower, through the shower, back to her car, cut in front of the cars in front of her and waved and drove away! She had done this before!

I presented a copy of first pages of my BankTrust, copy of CFE bill, copy of Tax bill and US Passport opened to the photo . Inspector inquired where I had been. Told him Sonoyta, no mas. He flipped through the pages of what I gave him and pointed ahead. No questions about reservations. Documentation of ownership with personal ID seemed to satisfy him. Got to the next inspector who did pretty much the same. Line was disorganized, down to one line due to the big rigs, but moving. Third group of inspectors looked at the paperwork and told me to turn off the vehicle and walk through the shower. Told him I needed to let it running as it would not start again. At this point I was at the head of the converging lines blocking everyone. He motioned to go so I jumped out and limped to the shower, got shot with the thermometer, sloshed my hands, sprayed in the shower and limped back to my vehicle. The inspector waved me on and I drove off. A bit crazy confusing at the end but everyone seemed to want to keep things moving and they did. It was kind of festive at the end. Just needed some free popcorn and a band. I did not see any cheese.
So, I did not present a resident card, don't have one. No Tourist Visa either. Flashed, copies of first pages of the Bank Trust, US Passport, CFE bill, Tax bill and a $50 bill , NO not true no $50 bill!!! I highlighted my name on each document and they did look carefully at the name repeated on all the documents. They all seemed interested to know I had not passed through the border at Sonoyta or came from Arizona. I was not required to take the resident line as it was blocked by the big rigs.

No big equipment in evidence at this juncture. A frame wrapped in vinyl. Lots of inspectors, all friendly and helpful. Things are moving along but it was not crowded at around 10AM this morning.

I was hoping that getting in without perm res card was possible. Thanks Roberto.

Never been asked for my insurance info either coming or going through the border any portal. Is this new?

He couldn't get insurance for the day so decided not to risk driving in Arizona without insurance. Nobody asked him for proof of insurance.
Hobie Vern
When is the last time you were asked for proof of insurance?
Queen of Kings
Usually in the US when you get stopped by the police or are involved in a traffic collision.
richwi
We came in on Friday. We own a home here but we do not have permanent resident cards yet. At the border they were stopping every car for a quick check. They did not ask for a passport or CFE bill etc. For the first time in a long time they asked to see the rabies cert for our dog. The whole thing was quick and easy.
richwi
Quick PS. We have never been asked for car insurance and we have been coming down since 1979. We were not asked on this trip either. We have an annual policy.
Roberto
If you are talking about Mex. auto insurance it is my understanding that it is NOT required to have a policy. But if you have an accident you must be able to pay on the spot for repairs if you are responsible. Otherwise your vehicle is impounded for a period until you are able to pay. It is cheap and foolish not to have at least a driver's license policy.
RP Life
This is making my head hurt....lol

So short recap:

Roberto said: Got to the border no problems and realized I neglected to get day insurance since the trip was not planned to drive. Insurance office at the border would not sell day insurance for the US so I drove back to Penasco.

Then Girlfran said: Never been asked for my insurance info either coming or going through the border any portal. Is this new?

Roberto was just trying to get US Insurance to be covered if something happened while driving in the US for the day not Mexican Insurance for being covered while driving in Mexico.

The End.

I hope this saves Roberto from having to explain this over and over and over.

driving thru Sonora if they stop you they DO ask for proof of MX insurance, which it is mandatory for everybody driving in Mexico, Portugal Insurance under $100 USD for the year in my 06 Prius, so it is worth having it, and yes I have been asked in HMO and Kino and in between, although I do have to say that my sticker of "friends without borders" got me out of speeding tickets a few times and of course being 100% bilingual

We drove down this morning and no request for Mx insurance. Going back to Tucson, that newer Xray machine took 10 minutes to get through. I told them you're going to be backing up traffic if it gets busy. He said "we're trying to get the kinks out".

We never had a problem with the old one like the new one

Tell us more about the xray machine. they were still doing the site prep work last time we went down

I repeat...I was told years ago that you are NOT required to show a policy or to have one. If you have an accident and are determined to be at fault your vehicle will be impounded a fine and total to make the repair will be imposed on the party determined to be at fault if you go to court. The the vehicle is released only when the court and both parties agree the cost is paid.My personal experience is that if both parties agree on repair costs money changes hands directly you never go to court and you go about your way. Often the police never appear and you do not go to court because you get tired of waiting. Much more money in collecting curb fines.

I still can't believe this debate is still going on about insurance....Good luck with that....lol

The Xray machine is not under the shaded area (I think there's still one there, but this one is bigger and taller). They were directing all traffic through this machine so you can imagine the bottleneck on a busy day vs Saturday afternoon. There's a small building to the right of it, apparently with the instrumentation that controls it, and a guard had to go inside to check on it. You drive through 5-7mph and wait, maybe 3-5 minutes. It looked like there was another one to the left of this one, but it wasn't working.
brokenwave
They will probably put a shade structure over them for ?? millions of $$, the current regime running HLS spends our tax $$ so well.
Thank goodness we have China as our friends so they buy our bonds so we can print more $$ and lend us more of the Covid19,

Inka! WTF MAN?! I was paying $60 per WEEKEND for a 20 year old truck?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you bullshitting us?! Please tell me you're kidding!!! Is there someone you can link me with? I've been wanting a year policy but WITHOUT breaking the bank.
Mexico Joe
Whether or not insurance is required may be moot because honestly, if someone did ask for the insurance in Mexico what are they going to do with it? Look up the policy number in their ass? I doubt they have a nationalized computer system in the vehicle to check registration and insurance???? This is the reason IMHO that they don't try and enforce speed on MEX 8 between Sonoyta and RP. They don't write tickets in Mexico with faith that you will pay it at a later time. I had SOMEONE with a radar gun stop me when I was 19 in the middle of the desert and said I was going 125kph and wanted to take me to NOGALES to pay the fine??????????? HUH???? I swear to god that's what the guy said. I played dumb and got a WARNING. It was February 04 I believe. Valentines weekend. Rainy and absolutely not another white person in sight.
brokenwave
Joe, a drivers license policy (liability only) costs $60-80 per year.
Annual policy with coverage for a vehicle say $20k value is probably under $500 a year.
I use Pro Alliance insurance here in Penasco.
cholla
I use Pro Alliance too. $44,000 in coverage for my F450 costs about $600 per year

Joe, I have a 2006 Toy Prius and only liability, with Alejandro for the past 25 years, that might be a reason too, and I do get the actual policy with the Mexican company, not just an email stating you are covered by them!!
Of course the more you want to cover the more expensive, considering nowadays my 06 Prius is like having a vocho!!!

I guarantee your 06 Prius is worth the same amount as my 20 year old Tacoma... So basically what I'm saying is.... I've been getting bent over by SANDBORNS.

What's the difference between license policy vs actual policy on the vehicle? I'd say my vehicle is only worth $10k for insurance purpose. Pry could get $12k on the secondary market.

I just need the policy that keeps me out of jail and the vehicle out of impound. For as cheap as possible. Paying $60 per trip for insurance is an absolute joke!
ernesto
The license policy covers licensee for liability only . Anything you drive, ride etc.

A friend of the girl I was dating called her to meet up so they came over picked my date up and they needed to go into town and buy stuff, they went to beach to ride horses and banana ride met
Oup with the Mexicali cartel and they came back wasted but got invited to some party at Choya, boy was I thrilled. They slept the peda off and when sun was setting it was time to go to quinceneda. I got in my car with my friend and her friend with some friends that had accompanied her.
well on the way to choya the other car sideswiped another didn’t look to bad but she split I pulled over told the couple in sideswiped car that I would take care of damages, they said no. We going to call the cops, ok I said later told them. Went down the street and cops had pulled friend over about 5 police cars. Shit we in for a good one, my friend goes to car and starts pulling out passengers and she gets arrested. Obstruction of justice cuffed her told her to police car and she was gone. Called the passengers over and gave them ride back home told them to sit tight.
So when I got to cop station half the town was outside, so I walked in went to window and they had ordered pizza I knew on my tab. So the police chief comes out and says come outside and look at damages. Went and looked at car and it was missing the skins had plastic wrap around the doors instead of stock doors and she had only hit the bar down the middle. Then there was 2 ambulances and the couple were in neck braces like really.
So I went in to bail the 2 trouble makers out and they wanted 3000 pesos for obstructing justice and couple grand for damages to car. I bailed one out and told the cops her boyfriend a lawyer from USA was coming to bail her out. They took her to back building and locked her up.
Went home about 11pm and a couple hours later they brought her to house saying she was disrupting the other inmates.

Welcome back Inka, sorry to hear you had an episode with one of our beautiful poster real estate agents (Astrid). I didn't catch it maybe Life did, anyway be in town in 3 weeks and love to see some of your tile work. Maybe take Queen to Guau Guau's.

I didn't catch it. If I did I would of posted it....If we don't post it then they continue to get away with it....

So what do you think of these gofundme's????

CashApp: $30
GoFundMe: $13,202 (discontinued due to tax implications)
GoFundMe Fees: ($412)
Cash Received: $600
Total raised so far: $22,090

Maybe they should help out the hot dog cart guy??? I think I will eat at the smaller restaurants that do not have large gofundme's and not at a prime location....Just saying....They make a lot money off of Holidays, Spring Breakers, Semana Santa, Bikers Rally, etc. each year...They are in a prime location. In order for them to stay afloat they need a gofundme???? Sounds like a scam....If they need a gofundme then they need to close down. Out with the old and in with the new.

Update (Boo Bar)
FYI Sure is funny how after this post your original content on your links have changed drastically. Only looks more shady.

Not much different than the rich beggars at the freeway off ramps and major intersections here in the US. People get tricked into giving away their hard earned money to those that need it the least.

I would love to see a go fund me for someone like Sammy's right by Pemex off of benito juarez across the street from Burger King.

I don’t know to much about the big 3 and the go fund account since I personally don’t frequent those joints. They might be run by the someone out of Phoenix for all I know using straw people which eventually will become owners in the end.
Boo Bar been around for some time, many person’s on here visit which is their choice .
As for the hotdog guy I feel for him trying to get by in this pandemic, he will probably have to sell the cart, but how do you stop and help so many vendors?
I usually buy my stuff at ley express on BJ which has the best tamales, I have to splurge at Flavios every time I go down since I been going there forever.
Anyways Life thanks for bringing that out as for the story about the hit and run I might of made it up or embellished it a little, started to hear the crickets lol.
