I was just in Puerto Penasco the first week of September and in spite of it being reasonably windy I noticed that neither wind turbine was moving. Does anyone know why? Are they still in operation? Or was it maybe just for maintenance?
The past 8 trips down since Jan of 2020, I've only seen one of them spinning one time.
The power generated from them is supposed to go to the San Carlos /Guaymas area.
I don't think it's a maintenance issue. Even last year there were many days they were not spinning when we were there.
It might be a cost issue.
Noticed the same last trip a couple of weeks ago and it was blowing like a hurricane. Neither of them were spinning and they should have been going like helicopters in that wind.
I was thinking more like demand. Lower demand for electricity in the last 6 months due to Covid if the energy really does go south to SC GUA. We can't store the electricity so it makes sense but that could be completely false. That would be a guess if we were playing a game. Tortuga answer seems reasonable too... Curious minds inquire...
That's true about the wind limiter, when it's really blowing they shut it down.
But even before Covid hit, for the past year those turbines should have been spinning more than they have been vs the year before.
It's down to demand and cost value to find out why they're not spinning and making $$ for the owners.
I want to put a wind generator in this winter. Any suggestions? Thank you.
We used to have one on our farm. The best hint I can give is to oversize the wiring and minimize the distance from the turbine to the battery. Systems can have A LOT of resistance loss. Having a good handle on your usage will make sizing the system pretty strait forward.
No, because the President says that wind mills produce cancer. I was asking how far the cancer spreads from the wind generator... Trying to figure out how many people in Rocky Point have been exposed to cancer.

Interesting!! How exactly does a wind turbine produce cancer? If that's the case, the whole West side of Maui is probably on their death beds by now!!!

And everyone who has ever driven the 10 near Palm Springs.
So, some of us know that the person who said they produce cancer is also the same person who said injecting bleach into our bodies somehow could possibly save us from this virus. If any of you don't know who that person is and you would like to know, send me a private message and I'll be glad to tell you.:)
I don't think you MJ can make a non political post!!
Every time I see a post by you I think back to that magical time when Corky Carroll and Hobie Alter got together and put Corky's name on a Hobie surfboard. Back when they only made boards. Hobie was the board everyone wanted to have, but after Corky's name was put on it, it became a must-have. A prototype of today's sports marketing.
I don't know a damn thing about wind turbines causing anything but dead birds.
On the other hand, I have watched a couple documentaries about living too close to high voltage power lines and the effects of such. Not good. Was pretty telling when the guy walked under the lines holding an ordinary fluorescent tube bulb in his hand and it lit up like a Christmas tree!

I remember that shop they had in Dana Point back in the day. I from Tucson but am a Dana Hills Grad

It was found that children living in homes as far as 600 m from power lines had an elevated risk of leukemia. An increased risk of 69% for leukemia was found for children living within 200 m of power lines while an increased risk of 23% was found for children living within 200 to 600 m of the lines.[3] This study was notable in that it found some elevation of risk at much greater distances than previous studies.

No. The electromagnetic radiation 30 meters from a powerline is negligible. 60 Hz will not broadcast. There is nothing there.
I’m not sure how the discussion went from wind turbines to power lines, but that type of thing happens a lot on the site. Anyway... there have been no studies. (no meaning zero, nada, none) that show any type of risk due to the emissions from wind turbines. There is a very very small risk from being injured by one of the blades becoming dislodged.
From the first day that turbine was trouble, just kept breaking down and parts were impossible to obtain and workers won't go near it cause it leaks bullshit.

I know and have ridden the point break at Dana Point back in the day, the tressels too. Ha, I have no idea why I threw the tressels in, except maybe because both places are special.
My life started out on the beach in Torrance, then on to here in AZ for my wonderbread years. Then it was back to S Cali for the end of eighth grade in 62, then on to high school in 63. I hit it perfect, and there's no place I'd have rather been than S Cali in the '60s and early 70's.
I left San Diego for the Pacific Northwest in 74, and I never went back.
Supposedly you can drive thru it 2,500 times per year and not start glowing in the dark.
If you cross regularly I'd get out and walk past it, but if you're the only person in the car, I don't think that will fly with them.
I will be asking them to let me out of the vehicle. Anyone had experience with this? I go frequently and this is completely unacceptable.
Back when I was wondering about the contraption, I wrote to Customs and Border Patrol. Surprised to get a response, in which I was told that travelers who were still wary, despite claims of "safe levels," would have the option to leave their vehicles.

Would they drive the vehicle thru for people who weren't comfortable driving themselves?

We for many years would ride the power lines from Scottsdale road to the Verde river or over to the Bartlett lake dam. When we parked under the power lines we often could hear a hissing noise and the static electricity was incredible. Nor sure about health issues but there is definitely some kind of power field surrounding the big power lines.
Towing my boat back and forth, I've gotten X-rayed many times. Used to get directed around the right side of the border entrance. Also h ad the X-ray truck circle me
scanning.
They always made me (and family) get outta the truck and stand by in the distance.
No worries, zap it as you see fit. Ain't nuttin' there illegal.
I might be an asshole and go 3mph.... Act stupid afterward. Oooo that wasn't fast enough??? My bad. Do you want me to go back through?? Such a pointless game. If we wanted to end the importation of drugs into this country we could do it tomorrow and we wouldn't need XRay... All this dumb ass shit is for the naïve people that still believe in GOOD GUYS vs BAD GUYS.

At least you posted something from a medical journal. Larry, Queen and Steve Maduro would have quoted something from windturbinescancerisbad.com/bonerpills

I live over by there. We just went mountain biking a few weeks ago under the power lines. It's incredible how noisy those lines are. We stopped for a few minutes under them to rest. One in the group stopped in one spot and the rest were a few feet away. He was startled and thought his hands were going numb cuz everything started tingling. Turns out his bike was vibrating from the lines. There was a certain spot under the lines if you moved over to it, your bike would vibrate. It was a very weird feeling. Doesn't seem like it would be a good idea to stay under those for any extended period of time.

Funny. We have had similar experiences. Lately we have switched to mountain bikes and have been riding regularly at Brown’s Ranch and the Pima & Dynamite trailheads. I want to try the trick of holding a fluorescent bulb under tose lines at night to see if they light up. But hey- everything gives you cancer these days!

Joe: how would you end the importation of drugs tomorrow? I am curious because even if you legalize drugs in the U.S. there is a black market-see Colorado & California news, and also there huge flow of prescription drugs that are “illegal” by our laws. Just askin.
Not saying it’s the right thing to do... but if you made drugs legal and sold them cheap you wouldn’t have any market for illegal ones.
Anti government people wont be lining up to pay the tax on the product. So the black market never sleeps. Government product is also substandard compared to black market.

Well for 2 years I worked for the biggest OPIOD DEALER in America, McKesson. Second, I wouldn't end the importation of drugs. Dollar for dollar the war on drugs is even a bigger failure when you look at it in terms of rehabilitation. You could take a quarter of that money and focus on rehabilitation instead of criminalization. Why should being in simple possession of a drug be criminal? It's asinine. You know how many of my friends in the late 90's/early 2000's got arrested for having a couple grams of marijuana on their person????!!!! Talk about a fucking joke! Making FELONY criminals out of educated kids from PV who later went on to be normal, responsible fucking people with good careers. Not even mentioning how drug laws primarily target poorer individuals and or people of color in underserved neighborhoods. The war on drugs is a complete failure. There's not even one part of it that has been effective. This also doesn't mention the fact that the government could stop the importation of drugs tomorrow if they wanted to. Lastly, drugs are only addictive TO SOME PEOPLE. This would be considered a SIDE EFFECT. I'm sure a few of our resident scientists can chime in but because one person can't handle social drug use does not mean that the drug is addictive across the board. Alcoholism and associated degenerative diseases attributed to consuming THE DRUG ALCOHOL has side effects, negative consequences. ALL DRUGS have this associated risk. Albeit some are less severe. Marijuana being illegal is a complete LAUGHER regardless if you like it or use it. Unfortunately, the laws NOT the drug itself have ruined some people's lives but hey as long as it wasn't your son right? I wish we could have all been a square but some of us actually understand the meaning of COMPLETE FREEDOM. IE being LIBERAL
