Could you have told me this last month they got me really sick and had to get on antibiotics took 1 1/2 weeks to get well I ordered the sushi box

Also the hold ups continue I did see the ones you posted Life, so a lady reported that she stopped to make a call in front of the stadium and 3 heaven’s jump into her 2000 dodge truck and beat the crap out of her and took 2000 dollars, she went to friends house and called the cops, she might of been from Phoenix.
Another report says a 20 year old girl from town was deprived of her belongings and just glanced at that one so I didn’t get full report, said it was a new band in town hopefully they catch them quick.

The story about the old lady at the baseball stadium is suspect....it was 1:45 in the morning and she is out and about with 2k in her pocket....doesn't add up. I didn't hear about the other story.

I told my 16 year old Goddaughter in PP about this and how I found out about this through the forum. She wants to join the forum. Can somebody guide us thought this? Thanks.

Agree Russ,
Older lady from the US, $2K on her at 1:45 AM = A Huge Hummmmmmmmm??? From me.
All the years I've been down to Penasco, I don't think I've ever had even more than $1,000 on me at one time.
If I need more than that there's ATM's, can use a CC and I can write a check if needed, which I've done
many times to pay for my building projects.

the 20th anniversary celebration is postponed until 2021, they have invited individuals to come down if they want to follow the strict protocols that are in place.

This was the article regarding the 20 yr old that I found that Playaperro mentioned:

The police report indicates that at 8:30 p.m. the assault was reported in the grocery store named "García", located on Reforma Street and Right of Way.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police officers interviewed 20-year-old Ana Cristina J., who informed the officers that moments before a man of short stature arrived at the scene, wearing adult pants, a two-tone blue shirt. , black cap, a blue scarf covering his face and a bandage on his right hand.

The subject addressed the young woman pointing a firearm at her, while telling her to give him the money that he had in the box and also to give him the one they had under the counter, taking an approximate of 9,000 pesos in bills of different denominations, taking a bread from the counter and then leaving.

Band of thieves operates with total impunity in Puerto Peñasco

> Neighbors of the San Rafael neighborhood denounce that they have been victims of the robberies of this group of criminals
Editorial team Peñasco Diario
Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, September 23, 2020.- Neighbors of the San Rafael neighborhood, who live along Alejandro Boulevard Sobarzo and, starting on Calle 60, denounce that there is a gang of thieves that is operating with total impunity in this sector of the city.
According to the information sent to this media, Peñasco Diario, this group of criminals is made up of a woman, of height between 1.60 cm-1.65 cm, thin, dark complexion, and two men, one robust, 1.70 cm. tall, and the other slim, like 1.65 cm to 1.70 cm.
Also, from the data provided, it is known that they are in more than one vehicle, and there are already several large robberies that have been perpetrated.
Likewise, the residents of this neighborhood affirm that they have already filed many complaints with the corresponding authorities, however, the robberies have not stopped.

They say the crime is only going to increase since they lost a major funding to their police force here. I read the article last week on De Frente Facebook.

Surprised that the cartel hasn't dealt with them yet. The police aren't going to do anything. Except take a 40% cut. Who's plaza is it? Still Mayo????

Have we factually determined it was AM and not PM? I've seen both and was waiting to comment but doesn't sound like we'll ever know. I'll say this. If it's during the day, nothing really out of the ordinary. The scarier part would be a tourist getting robbed in the middle of the day. Doesn't really happen in RP. Now, if this lady is out at 145AM with 2k.... that shit is suspect. HIGHLY SUSPECT. Past curfew with a shit ton of money on your person? This sounds like she was meeting someone and that someone decided to let their friends know and then boom, set up. She was on the phone??? Yea, calling the person she was meeting to let them know she was there at the "drop" location, with the money and what color her car/truck was... Damn. I might need to become a detective.

What I posted was a cut and past of what was posted on FB, and that included the heading and source in Spanish. Could the person who posted that have changed the timeframe? Absolutely. Could it have been changed when it was interpreted? I don't know, but we've all seen weird crap show up after Spanish is interpreted to English.
What's interesting is that it say's " The woman pointed out that the day in mention stopped her pick-up vehicle Dodge Ram 2009, at the height of this city's baseball stadium]".... While on the second robbery it says "The second violent robbery incident arose yesterday evening, Tuesday, September 22". Both incidents were on the 22nd. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

Where's Roberto? He's not answering my emails and that's very unusual.

We have been contacting each other by email, and more so since the virus hit, but he hasn't gotten back to me in weeks now, and I've sent multiple emails. I don't have his current phone number, just his old one. He did mention he would like to go to the states to see his son, but his vehicles were having issues. I've stayed a few times at the casa he owned, but I've never been to where he's staying now in Las Conchas. Yes, I'm worried. He has some good connections, and the town is not nearly as virus-free as being reported, so he was taking the proper precautions.

If you said 10 I might consider your stance. 16?! The F word?! Huh???????? That's the problem. Too many safe spaces... I used to go to NFL games with my dad in our season tickets at a very early age. Could you imagine my dad turning around to someone and saying, hey buddy, we have a 6 year old here! NO! We can't imagine that because it didn't happen in 1990. I'm sorry.. I'm sure your god daughter is an angel just like the rest of the 16 year olds of the world but this forum is the real world. Welcome god daughter. Maybe ear muffs might help her??????

After having some time to gather my thoughts, I decided to post my story here. This evening as my husband and I and our two youngest daughters were headed down to Mexico, my family was high jacked on the road. From what we can gather, there must have been someone waiting on the side of the road looking for the perfect opportunity. We had been traveling in our 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO along with our 20 foot tandem axle trailer that was carrying 3 quads, one of my husbands mountain bikes, all our ice chests as well as our luggage and food for several days. About 6:00 PM a grey sedan pulled up alongside the drivers side door and pulled out a AK-47 and pointed it directly at my husband. He was ordered to pull over or be shot. Immediately my husband pulled over and was ordered out of truck with a machine gun still pointed at his face. As he got out of the car, a member of the cartel aka drug member began to get inside the truck with our daughters and myself still inside. Recognizing that the cartel member was going to drive away with his family still inside, Mason pleaded with the man to let his family get out. Within seconds we all made a snap decision and exited the car immediately. It was so immediate in fact that as the truck drove away, all the doors were still opened. Right before the cartel member left, he ordered my husband Mason and I to give him our phones and sped away without hesitation. As we stood in the middle of the Highway, we were all in shock. It took a quick second to process what had just happened before the fear that we could still be in eminent danger hit me with full force. Quickly I grabbed both of my daughters and ran them into a nearby field. My youngest daughter Claira had no shoes as we ran through briers and tall bushes. Meanwhile, Mason ran back up to the road to try to wave someone down. After a few minutes a van from a nearby mine stopped to see what was the matter. Because Mason speaks Spanish, he was able to relay the story of what had just happened. The miners had our family quickly load their van and took us down a side dirt road. At this point, both of the girls were in tears while one of them began to hyperventilate. Because I don’t speak or understand perfect Spanish, I didn’t understand who we were with or where we were going. For another few seconds, I thought that this could also be part of the cartel and they wanted our family. Quickly Mason reassured me that we were safe. Within 10 minutes we arrived at a Mexican military outpost and were being escorted through the barbed wire fence. Once again, Mason handed the communications while I took the girls into a cinder block bunker. At this point we were able to make some very important calls. I was able to contact our dear friends Aimee and Phil Lamoreaux who quickly ran over to my neighbors home who is an active CIA agent. I gave them the information they needed and our current location. Within moments, we were on the phone with Washington and those who could help us. The American Consulate was notified and we were told that help was on the way. After about 30 minutes at the outpost, we again boarded another mining van which would take us to Rocky Point to safety. Because the border closes at 8:00 PM, we were informed that we could not get home tonight. We were dropped off at the Las Palomas Resort where we went inside to see if we could stay for the night. Upon entering, we were told that the resort was at 100% capacity and no rooms were available. As we walked back into the lobby, we saw another couple just arriving to check in. They saw our disheveled state and asked us if we were all right. We told them our story and the situation we were in. Without hesitation they both decided to have us stay with them for the evening. They own a 3 room flat on the 8th floor and said they had 2 extra beds. It took just a look at our daughters and their faces to know we would gladly and gratefully accept their offer. Now here I sit in this borrowed, beautiful room in dirty clothes without any possessions we came with and beyond grateful for the blessings of this day. My family is safe, our children were not taken, our lives were prolonged and I am reminded again that God lives and watches over each of us. Tomorrow the American Consulate will arrive and escort us home after the border opens. A huge thank you to each of our children back at home who helped in every possible way they could and for Ange and Sal Alcantar for jumping in quickly to cancel all our bank cards/visas.
To everyone else, thank you all or your prayers and concern.
Much love, Natalie and Mason

For those mean spirited people ou there who are sending messages to my children saying this is an attention grabbing, made up story, shame on you. In no way would we ever wish this upon any family. You clearly do not know the caliber of our family and the integrity that we uphold.

Thanks for posting. Phones have been burning up about this incident so I'm pleased to get a first hand account. I don't actually know these people, but I know OF them and where they were going. This kind of stuff can have a chilling effect on tourism just when RP seems to be reviving its tourist-dependent businesses. I hope the law catches up with these guys and publishes their names. How hard should it be to catch some guys with a toy hauler, some ATVs and a 2017 Tundra, all of which have serial numbers and descriptions? If we don't read about some arrests pretty quickly I'll have to assume these guys have sponsors with a lot of influence.
Stuart
This outrageously horrible. I personally know Ted and CJ and have spent time with them in Lobos on several occasions. Two of the most honest and real people you will ever meet.

The horror... the horror of that story. It's a shame that gringo families are now targets. I couldn't have cared a bit when it was cartel vs. cartel killings. Still sad, but now actively targeting gringos?

Not cool at all. They have my sympathy and I hope the girls can get over the trauma they were subjected to.

My mind is still reeling from reading this.

OMG... Just to clarify location, this happened on highway 3 somewhere between Mayan Palace and La Y Griega??? Were they heading N-NW toward Puerto Peñasco or S-SE toward Desemboque/Lobos?

We live in Nogales and usually take a US-based route up through Tucson/Sells/Why/Lukeville, but we have gone to PP via Mexico (SantaAna/Altar/Caborca/Y Griega) MANY times. Our main concern has always been the road condition and lack of shoulder to pull over rather than any potential violence. But my God if true, that would make me think VERY hard about ever taking that route again....

Our main concern has always been the road condition and lack of shoulder to pull over rather than any potential violence. But my God if true, that would make me think VERY hard about ever taking that route again....

You know the shit holes DT mentions??? Add Y Griega to that list.

Gives myself and the wife a very uneasy feeling. First the 48 bodies few miles from us as the crow flys in Los Conchas and now the armed robbery and terrorizing of tourists. We have decided to started looking at real estate in La Paz. We are assuming this will just escalate like everything else in Mexico.

How many of the 48 bodies were Identified? First story has many discrepancies not saying it didn’t happen, just saying cartels don’t drive around in cars, anyway life goes on.
CheddarBob
Doesn't matter how many were identified the fact it happens on a regular basis is enough. Cartel or Rebels with guns its all over the news it happened all right.

So they dug up an old clandestine graveyard these people had no money to bury their families many years ago and by the way it is LAS Conchas.

Don and I spent some time with Ted last time we were down that way, and we all went into El Desemboque from his place. I drove, starting at dusk to get some eats in town. We had a great time. I don't know and have never met CJ who says he through with Mexico, but Ted didn't strike me as someone who would pull up stakes and move on; but then again, Puerto Lobos is not the same place it was when they started building their little slice of fisherman heaven either.

My pleasure, btw only a new fish would pronounce it that way, lol cheddar.

So is the government's official conclusion that the cluster of 48 bodies was simply a potter's field (place where unknown or indigent people are buried) cemetery? Or is that idea an attempt to wish away the possibility that Sonora has an organized crime problem?

Correct. CJ was just reporting it because obviously she knows these folks. She has (had) a house in Cholla as well as Ted's place in Lobos. She is a super person and I've seen her buckle down and kick some grouper ass in Lobos.

Regardless, this event changes a lot about the safety of going to Lobos right now. Santo Thomas as well.

Somebody I spoke with about this said "They'd have to catch me." Ludicrous, really. Hard to outrun 7.62 rounds no matter what you're driving.

Witness that, as Americans, one damn bullet rolling around in the back of a pickup will get you jail time. I have weapons, but they never cross the border, ever. You're a sitting duck when something like this happens.

Viva Mexico.

FYI,
The Why Not Store has gun and ammo storage available to people who forget.
My son forgot to leave his 9mm home and stored it there for $5 per day.

A gun locked in a storage at Why does ya zero good when confronted with guns in Mexico. Sad, but troof. I've never carried over the border. Ever. But just maybe it's time to reconsider that philosophy.

Just sayin...

It's an option for those who forgot to leave it at home and would attempt to bring a gun or ammo into Mexico or hide it in the desert.
When we go shooting I have a cargo liner in back with 4" high sides to ensure all ammo and empty casings stay on it while we pack up the
SUV to go home.

I ALWAYS police my truck before a trip. We shoot in the desert and I'm a firm believer of pack out what you take in. 9, 5.56, 7.62, 12 Guage empties all rolling around in the truck bed. I refuse to be "f'd" because there happens to be some empty brass rolling around. Not worth it at all.

Same here Stuart, but there are numerous people who don't abide by the same habits and we read about them going to
jail in Mexico because they're careless or have the I won't get caught attitude.

Poblado San Felipe Ejido means the neighborhood or area that's populated. Looks like a farm nearby.
The ATV's are probably all racked out with mota stacked high ready to race into the USA.

San Felipe is the name of a village near Desemboque near Puerto Lobos

ATV's are easy to blend in but a newer truck like this is not.

VRBO Just added a 20% iva tax to all it’s rentals in Puerto Peñasco, so everyone renting thru VRBO is legit. Hopefully they gave the city a cut to better the infrastructure.

Pretty confused on the mask rule. I don't see anyone wearing one. We came through Sonoyta at noon and only 3 cars out of 77 the occupants were wearing masks.... Dog, lines and beer on me if you want to meet up later.
Stuart
Masks are fiddy-fiddy at best from what I've seen on the Malecon.

Ok soooo.... Got a little wet on the Del Mar Charter sunset sail with my good friend Oscar Presiado. On the way home I decided to make a detour into the DEZ. Apparently I put my walker in the bed of my truck instead of inside the cab like I ALWAYS do. Well, I'm sure you can guess what happened next. I ripped around the desert over to COMP HILL and then back to Bella. We go to get out to come up to the room and NO WALKER. Now my GF is really pissed. She didn't appreciate the dez detour much. So I went and retraced our route 3 times and couldn't find anything. Not sure how. We retraced our tracks perfectly so I'm assuming someone has already picked it up and taken it.

Anyone know anywhere in town, a flea market or something similar where I can buy a used walker??? Problem is, I do ANYTHING without it. Only good thing this trip is that I brought my wheelchair for the resort being that it's so big. So right now I'm confined to the resort. The malecon and CHOLLA BAY are NOT wheelchair friendly so I'm really trying to save face with the GF and find another walker for the next 3 days or our trip has just been cut down in it's prime....

49 deaths reported in Penasco.C30F9A17-952D-41B6-B683-90E95D4B4C35.png
brokenwave
49 death's and only 318 cases in Penasco? Hummm, the 4 local friends I asked about it said those numbers are low
versus what they have seen. I know of 12-14 people who have gotten Covid that live here and I hardly know anyone here.

My best local friend who just got over Covid said the 318 number is so wrong since he knows of at least 10 people who died from it
and more than 40 who got Covid.
The guys installing my cabinets today said lots of people in Penasco have it, but people still need to work and will only
go to the Dr. when they get really sick. So in reality add an extra 2-3X to those numbers and that is probably closer to reality.
Look at he numbers exploding in the US and Europe, guess its here for awhile until the Vaccine is in place and starts protecting people.

Mexico hasn't tested that many people, 3+ million out of 130 million. So that means if you don't test, the
numbers will not increase. Where did I hear that again??? Hummm, only 37 more days.

Unfortunately most of the corona cases go unreported people afraid of losing jobs, they rather buy the so called cure of meds than see a Dr. Getting black balled is a death sentence in Pe ñasco.
