With some of the reports I've read about a embargo on Mexican shrimp from the upper gulf, I asked the Customs people when we crossed back to the US today about it. They said there is no embargo at this time....wouldn't or couldn't tell me anymore.

Russ....there have been a few posts on here with people concerned about buying any amount and not being to bring them across.....so I relayed the info I got....at $7/lb, it's nothing to discount if you have to dump them at the border!!!

I said that on porpoise, just for the halibut, its nothing to get crabby about. You think you are the only one with good advice, well I think you are being shellfish about it. This is all coming to easy, sometimes I flounder but not this time. I gotta go now and take some aspirin cause I gave myself a haddock.
And contrary to popular belief, you can still get back into the US without a passport or passport card as long as you have proper documentation. Mis-information gives me a haddock too.

That is an interesting aside. I checked with customs and BP and INS and they all said the same thing, the USA has a constitutional mandate to allow US citizens back into the US regardless of whether or not they have a passport as long as a place of birth can be verified. Having said that - they could make life difficult for you. My son goes back and forth to the states with nothing more than a Dl while we were waiting for his passport to be renewed.

Why is it that they do not want to change thier old way, if it is for thier own benefit, it is hard to understand sometimes, specially now that most of the boats are gone, should be easier for the ones left to adjust and advance with the times and the new ways!!
Yesterday, I asked the custom agent about the shrimp embargo and he had no idea of any embargo, all he said was that a max of 50 pounds is allowed per car and all the fish you can fit as long as it is not for commercial purposes, so there you go you still can bring shrimp, now the difference will be the price, with the gulf spill they might charge more down here, I have not check that yet!!.
That's was the point of the embargo. There are new shrimp nets which allow for the escape of sea turtles. The U.S. State Dept is now satisfied, after inspections, Mexican Shrimpers have and are using the new turtle friendly nets, so the embargo was lifted.
