Our son & his family arrived Friday - had been 20+ years since they had last been here. While wandering the malecon he made the observation: So much has changed and yet it is still the same old Penasco - Everyone has a smile for you and are happy to take the time to talk. (I think he ended up talking to most of the people we passed on the Malecon.) We got our Thrifty ice cream cones and wandered up and down. It was a great Sunday afternoon with lots of families at the Malecon.
He also mentioned that the drive down was a breeze, especially since the road had been improved so much. Boarder crossing was a breeze - same going back today. They were the 5th car in line and it tooks minutes to go across.
Also said he felt just as safe now as years ago - and no quams about bringing his family down. In fact said he wasn't concered about our grandaughters driving down here by themselves - and they are very protective parents. That no guarantees can be made for wherever you are.
Said he remembered that the media (and people) always pumped up negative stories without assertaining the true facts. And "friends" were quick to offer "alarms" with no knowledge of Penasco other then "stories" they've heard.
Anyway - I though maybe you would find his perspective interesting as he had been here when he was a very young boy and had wonderful "adventures" for all those years. He was glad we hadn't listened to the "doomsayers".
