Well, there goes the neighborhood. I had suspicion all along that it was Seaside. Is that not Steve Schwab's outfit? Realistically, the amount of money for that site was ridiculous. Wonder how the hit count is now that forum is dead?
geeesh... I've got some domains like RockyPointInfo.com SonoranSeaside.com and a few more they may be interested in buying, if they're in a spending mood...
Stuart,
The forum is back up but you have to reregister. I registered over there only to help old members find the new forum by recognizing my name if they registered and looked. If you registered, we'd get more. Everybody knows who you are! Just an idea.
Chari
Terry,
It's the same website as before, rockypointonline.com
You click on let's explore rocky point, then click on the forum. You have to reregister as they took the old forum down.
The new forum is a lot different-lots of categories for all the new condo developments. There are also places for rocky point stories, restaurants and things to do.

Stuart, how much did you hear in dollars for that site?
$30,000 USD
I was interested in buying it, but that was too rich for my poor fisherman's wallet.
Just looked at the new forum - LET'S JUST ADVERTISE ALL THE PROPERTIES WE RENT AND GIVE EACH ONE ITS OWN FORUM!! YEAH, THAT'S THE TICKET!
Doggie-poo-poo. So much history and information about Rocky Point flushed right down the toilet! What a shame.

Well, hopefully our forum will keep it somewhat from flushing.
Last I heard it was $25,000. Regardless $25,000 or $30,000 asking price.... Personally, I find it hard to believe anyone would have paid the asking price for a...a...a.... forum! LOL  That's basically all that site ended up being in the end. All the links were bad, and information that was there was totally outdated.
Yea, I was very surprised! It looks like he bought it just for the forum so each of his properties could have their own place for their "birds" to roost. :P
Sorry, I just could NOT resist! I'll try to behave, honest!
No, I'll wait till it settles down over there. Right now there can't be many people on it. Any normal person that has looked :o at it in the last few days or longer certainly didn't sign up.
Sea Side Reservations Acquires a True Icon of Rocky Point Tourism.
Sea Side Reservations has acquired the longest continually running website for Rocky Point tourism in an aggressive move to gain a larger market share of rentals for those owners using Sea Side’s services for their property management needs. The web site www.RockyPointonline.com has been commissioned since 1996 by Hotels, Travel Agents, property management competitors and Sea Side Reservations as a source of tourism leads. It was estimated that Sea Side Reservations captured 25% of the reservation leads that this website produced since 2001.
Starting June 1st Sea Side Reservations has redesigned www.rockypointonline.com to only show those properties that Sea Side Reservations represents. Now 100% of the approximately 9,000 website’s monthly visitors will be directed to Sea Side Reservation’s properties.
In addition, the website will be available to owners to promote their personal units. This is a great opportunity to get your individual property out in front of thousands. This opportunity to obtain exposure for your specific home or condo is unmatched in Puerto Penasco.
I smell desperation. The fastest way to ruin a web resource is to have heavy-handed censorship and close the blinds to competition. What's funny is they don't realize that everyone that kept that site alive has no problem moving to another forum. I get more than 9000 'visitors' a month (and I guarantee theirs are not unique) to my website that I haven't had time to update in over a year.
You know! Your right! Sea Side doesn't get 9000 unique visitors. When they say 9000 they are being modest! Since June 1, 2008 they have received 19,134 unique visitors, and this is just one site out of the 21 sites Sea Side currently has.
Well there is definitely some manipulation going on since it was down more than half of that period!
Nice graph & stats with nothing to state where that came from.
I don't doubt the main page got that, but the forum certainly didn't.
Even so, I'm not impressed. I had over 40,000 unique visits the first month I put topless pictures of Tahitian girls on my Photopoint page, and that was in 2001.
Less than 1800 views of 29 posts.... but 19,000 unique visitors? Okaaaay.
I wouldn't be buying advertising on anything Seaside does that's for sure!

  Hi Rocky Point Online Admin. Welcome to the forum.
Submarine, I didn't say the forum got that many visits.. Based upon the stats 72% of the people that visit that site don't visit the forum! The forum is just for frequent visitors of Rocky Point to talk.
As far as a mexican warrant for Steve, that isn't true! If someone has told you that, ask them what it would be for.
Well we were talking about the forum there JHerbison. No one here cares about the main site and I, like most of us, just bookmarked the forum.
We're really irritated because all of our posts are gone and there was a lot of good information there. This group was that forum as you can see from the lack of traffic now. Maybe that's the goal over there at Seaside but it's not making any friends here. Funny because I always used to recommend either Seaside, Oceano, or Fiesta Beach Travel for renters but that list is narrowing rapidly.
The best kind of discourse is open discourse, positive or negative. The way it looks now, Seaside is trying some heavy handed censorship. That doesn't help your company's image at all. Tyler didn't start this forum to bash Seaside, but to fill a void. There is a lot of repeat customers to Rocky Point here and we're in it for the long haul. Not a good group to alienate or antagonize.
We have a lady working on the forum, and she may have deleted important post when she was trying to get rid of the spam. We are working on a new forum, but the one up now was a quick fix due to the forum being lost when we transfered the site.
I also emailed Tyler and told him that I would be happy to put a link on our forum to this forum if he asked, but we have deleted them when people don't ask. Those are the only posts deleted intentionally that weren't spam.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. How can people ask for a link to a forum they don't know about?
So if someone posted a general question, like "What other rocky point forums are out there?" you wouldn't delete replies with links then?
No sub hes saying they have deleted posts where the poster did not ask if
they could post the link, IE: Tyler contacting them and asking for permission to post a link to this forum.
I read it that way as well and I sent Sub a PM and asked him to read and evaluate it again. To me he's saying that if Tyler asks him he will post this site over there, presumably on the forum page. I think that's very interesting and surprising to say the least.
Well thats confusing but still dumb. I can't think of any forum that makes you ask for permission to post a link to another forum, and I'm a member of quite a few. I know of one that gets bent if you link to other travel agencies, but this isn't a travel agency forum.
I have a forum and welcome any links. Tyler is doing a great job here and most my forum buddies are here. Some have even shared by coming over to my forum. No reason we cant link and share. The other old forum is just for buisness. Thats why its all spam and advertising.
We had one of the employees through up a forum, and it wasn't what we wanted. We didn't want to change the forum at all, and we didn't know we would loose the old forum.

You people "we" have showed very bad judgment in not coming forward from the beginning about not being able to keep the old forum, either on this site or the new one. Instead you are over here doing I don't know what. Yes, the new forum was full of spam until you changed it a day or so ago, how can you possibly say it wasn't?
That forum was and still is a community and the perception was, and I assume still is, that you "we" came in without giving us any thought or the time of day.
For the most part our community was and is about helping people :sunny: with our knowledge and understanding of how things work, where to stay, fish, eat, and on and on it goes. The forum itself only showed part of how helpful this community is, there were many private emails as well.
I think it would be counter perductive for you "we" to come here on a high horse.
Kenny I think you may be giving the Seaside posse a pass on their "dog ate my homework" story on the old Forum. Some will argue the Stalinist like disapperance of the old forum was a Nixonian (18 minute tape gap anyone?) move to stop search engines from finding the anti-Seaside flame war that raged on this forum. If you remember some owners of Las Palomas were accusing him of being a crook. It was a complex fight that has gone private. Now that the forum has gone poof google searches on his business practices hit a wall.He would have been better off answering those accusations than possibly doing the modern day equivalent of book burning by buying the forum and destroying it as some are accusing him of doing around Puerto Penasco.
5 years of valuable information gone (some of which may have saved peoples lives and life savings)so some fat aging yuppie in a overpriced Hawaiian shirt can make a few more pieces of silver.

That's why it's never a good idea to have a forum owned by a company that does business in RP. The posts will be biased.
Thankfully, I'm a nerd and Mexico doesn't need any of those currently....
Tyler, i came upon a group of Mexican and possibly Iranian nerds South of Sasabe that are coming to the US to do the jobs our nerds won't. The Iranian claimed he'd even clean the microwave in the break room. They might even fix Jim's printer for minimum wage.
We didn't come forward because we were actually trying to keep the old forum.. Even with the stuff bashing Sea Side..
Your right! The information in the forum was great search engine content. That is why we tried to get the old info to work. Different forum versions and going from a windows server to a linux server we just couldn't get it to work.
Loosing information happens.. The old owner lost it before also... That is why the link has said "The forum is back!!!" for a long time.
When you are running a business you will always have people that don't like you. Here is a screenshot of communication between us about loosing the old information. Steve did want to keep it.
Josh,
I understand that what's done is done and that I am now beating a dead horse but after we found out the site was sold, I posted up on the old forum asking the new owners to post up, introduce themselves and tell us what your plans were. Had we been forewarned, we might have been able to get contact info for a lot of the old members. So many of them have not found the new site yet. And, the loss of the old info is truly sad.
I also pm'd you a few days ago but you haven't picked it up yet.
And to think I missed all this excitement while I was down in San Carlos for the past week or so!
I'm going to make a couple comments, and that's it:
I was the old forum. The one who tended it and kept it moving forward on a day-to-day basis as a "labor of love" for both the people that used it and the information it contained. In the years I did this, I never made one slim dime for any of my efforts. I had some occasional help from a couple of the forum users and although I won't name them here, I credit and thank them for helping me when we had a virus attack and other issues that were beyond my technical scope. At the time of the old site sale, the forum was operating like a well-oiled machine. I did discuss buying the site with the previous owner, but the price was well beyond my reach. My hope was that the new owners would contact me, if for no other reason, advice. That never happened. Oh well, shit happens, that's life.
I have no personal vendettas against Seaside, Steve Schwab, or anyone. It was simply ashame to see what was truly a living history of people, places, events, honest advice, and fishing reports in Rocky Point lost. It was an open exchange of opinions, the kind of honest information that money cannot buy. That information can never be replaced.
Well, there goes the neighborhood. I had suspicion all along that it was Seaside. Is that not Steve Schwab's outfit? Realistically, the amount of money for that site was ridiculous. Wonder how the hit count is now that forum is dead?
Personally I think both Joshua and Steve do a lot of good things for Rocky point and Joshua does great websites!
