It's that time already.... The "Back to School" ads are in the papers and on TV... one of our shoppers (Art Sloane) has been out buying sale items for us and I have been told by a couple of kind ladies here on the forum (Ladyjeeper & fatboyharley) that they have been out doing some shopping for school supplies as well, and asked if I would post what is needed by the schools...
We are always looking for the Basics like... Spiral Notebooks, Pencils, Colored Pencils, Pencil Sharpeners, Erasers, Crayons, Construction Paper, Rulers, Sizzors and Glue Sticks...
Other Items needed for La Montana School for Special Needs Children... Big Piece Jigsaw Puzzles, Flash Cards, Crafting Projects and Learning Tools to help develope motor skills...
Some good news... the city of Penasco is said to be buying school uniforms for all the children for the upcoming season, so that should negate that rule that children can not attend classes if they do not have the proper uniform... (just hope they provide more than one uniform per child)
Also if anyone comes across any smoking deals on a large or bulk quanity of any of the forementioned school supplies please contact me...
Mark, I'm assuming the uniforms will still be the same...........I'm sure they can still use all the white polo shirts they can get.
Yes Julie, they will be the same white polos... we intend to keep on buying them as I said earlier I hope the get more than one... how long can a child keep a white shirt white???
Just an idea....anybody that sees some killer buys for school supplies....please post the info...so that the rest can run over and get them...without running all over town looking.
About 4 years ago, the wife and I went down and our kids left a bunch or Happy Meal toys and assorted items they obviously didn't seem to care about in the truck. The kids we ran into that year were so excited for what we gave them and it made us want to bring thing to them again. We have often thought of bringing items for donation every time we come down.... but since we are so consumed with our own vacation plans, we forget. This post has reminded me to not forget. Where would I drop off such items as the school supplies or any other items while I am in RP next week?
Mark We have a box set up in our office and we will have some donations coming down next time we head that way or someone from the office heads that way.

I just came from Walmart and they have some good deals on school supplies (at least the one in east Tucson does). 1 subject notebooks (70 ct.)....15 cents each, Elmers glue...25 cents each, Elmers glue sticks (2 ct.)...25 cents each, Crayola Crayons, (24 ct.)...25 cents each, plus a whole lot more that I didn't get a chance to check out. They had a boat load of the notebooks, but everyone was grabbing them like they were going out of style..........I was lucky I got two cases!! Walgreens also has some good coupons this week..........

For the price of 3 beers (Penasco), you can get 50 spiral notebooks!!!! They had both college ruled and wide ruled!

I tried sweet talking the manager but she was tough. She told me to just keep comming in and getting the 10 at a time. We will keep it up and get more. We have not been able to find pencils at any discount.
If anyone comes across any special prices keep us all informed . We will not get down until after school starts but I am sure they are needed all the time.
If someone is going down sooner and wants to stop by and pick them up I have no problem with that. Coordinate through Mark

Thank You Bill & Edna... School should be getting back in sesson around the 23rd of August... the Gov. will start to issue school uniforms this week (as I am told) it's still kind of unclear as to how many uniforms the students will be given and if they will need to purchase additional uniforms, I have been told it would be at half price... (half price is still too much for a child who has nothing but wants to learn)

Roberto... I haven't heard for sure, but the schools may be going to just one color (brown checkered) pants and skirts for all schools, with the white polo type shirts... I will get a more definate answer and post it soon...

Roberto... we were told that the uniforms that are being issued are of various colors, same as they have been in the past... students are issued one pair of pants or a skirt, a white polo type shirt and a navy blue sweater for the cooler months...
A Big Thanks to the Rocky Point Times... they have always placed a small ad with the contact info for our "Adopt-A-Classroom of Puerto Penasco" in the Classifieds section of the paper, but in the August edition on page 32 they have listed our mission statement in a 1/4 page article... Thanks again to all for your help...... The fight against poverty begins with education...
Last week I said... "anyone that brings us a case of spiral notebooks I will buy you a beer" yesterday our friends Harold a.k.a. trade & his wife Kathy donated 10 cases of notebooks, but they brought down a total of 35 cases of notebooks 960 pencils, 30 packs of colored pencils and 80 gluesticks... I think I owe you guys a keg of beer, wait you don't drink.... we'll do lunch...
25 cases of notebooks and the other items were purchased with some of the money that was raised on our Memorial Day Bird Island Fund Raiser for the Schools...
UPDATE... This just in from the beach...

Notebooks... and more Notebooks... our friends Julie a.k.a. beachgirl & her husband Bruce, brought down more notebooks and other school supplies... the pile is getting larger, our living space is getting smaller as our storage and living rooms are filling with school supplies... this is looking to be a banner year for collecting supplies for the schools... Thank you to all who have helped... =]
SEA, clear out some room for two big boxes of notebooks and some white polos and other supplies someone dropped off at the Twin Dolphins office today. Thanks to whoever it was !! I was not in at the time so I did not get a name.
