just back from Michigan, and we can't wait to get back to the beach at PDO -
thought I'd start up a topic for the long turkey weekend.
Teri and I will be arriving Thursday afternoon, ready for 4 nights there.
We're looking forward to meeting everyone, I'll start it off with a big batch of pomegranite margaritas, just need to know where and when....
Chari - are you and Ink going to be there up in the north 40?
let's start planning !! :D
that would give us plenty of time -
maybe we can plan a roving party - stumble from rv to rv - having a drink and a bite at each, ending at Chuck's to fry turkeys?
that might be an idea...

You wanna have at my place, Chuck? We can I think, if Ink and Alicia don't mind, but I'm not sure the sundeck will be usable yet. The deck is sound but the stairs are dangerous. The patio is pretty big.
My old space would of been perfect... My new space is is all trailer and not a lot of room for a party. Valerie said something about renting a spot on the wall for a party?
Well, I have no problem having Thanksgiving at the Cove, and I believe Alicia will love it too, no driving :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
Like Chari says the stairs to the deck are in bad shape (termite damage) and I would not like anybody getting hurt, however a party in the patio sounds good!!!!
well I sure hope Teri and I are welcome - feels just a bit strange inviting ourselves to join people we haven't met yet, nor been invited to join....
well, we did meet Jerry 6 months ago down in Las Dunas, and he told Kenny we were alright, and then he passed that on to Chari.....
;)
Come on Joe, you know you are invited. We know each other from the forum. I can't wait for all of us to meet! It will be great, everybody's specialty drink and best side dish. Good food, good company and good eats! What more could we want!!!!!!
Chari -
thanks for the encouraging words. been a rough couple days since we've been back - can't seem to get away from cancer hitting our family and friends at too rapid a pace, getting tough to handle.
Hi, I stopped by to see Ink and Alicia on my way down to Jerry's on the 4th and I can tell you there will be no playing on the sun deck unless you have a death wish. Even when it was in good repair the steepness of the stairs would scare some people from going up and if they did go up it would take a safety harness and a couple of stiff drinks to get them down. Other than that, I think it will be a swell place for a gathering. It could be a good place to hide though.. :D and maybe better sleeping than under it.. :lol: I don't think I'll be considered trailer trash if I do, right??
Yes, as of right now I'll be coming down. Thanks to Chuck and some of my other friends it's become a regular part of my Thanksgiving the last few years.
Yep Jerry gave you the thumbs up but he said to be careful when you are approached from the side or rear, he said to shuffle your feet.. :lol:
it'll be great to meet everyone - we've been down to RP for 4 of the last 5 years for Thanksgiving I think - always at PDO or hanging with friends at the Mirador when they had the trailers and 4 beachfront units.
who knows - we probably have seen each other on the beach before.
looking forward to it more than ever. If I remember the right - the duty-free store is open on holidays, right?
Kenny,
Will this make four years in a row? I don't have any family coming down this year...
This will be the third time and it should have been your Dad coming down because it was your Mothers turn last year. You don't mean that Val's not coming down do you?
gettin closer - 3 weeks from today.
rv getting new front rotors, master cylinder and the works, a/c being checked, and a general run-thru - should be back this weekend ready to roll. Now wondering about our contribution to the menu, would some homemade pico de gallo (mild and spicy), and a batch of homemade guacamole with chips be a good start to go with the pomegranite margaritas?
Talking to Chuck this past weekend at RP, of course, we, Alicia and I, will be bringing home made mash potatoes and Peruvian turkey stuffing, better than excelent!! and we are going to need to get peanut oil for the turkeys, anybody wants to go 50/50 with us on it? I know that Costco has it here in Tucson, I am sure that they have it also up in Phoenix metro.
Chuck ,
Even under the new Socialist Obama administration you are not allowed to "pick up" hams at Frys you must still pay. I have heard through my sources that in this amazing new, happier America we will be free to bring Ham back across the border.
how much oil is needed? we're willing to split the costs - should we bring cash, or bring oil?
let me know - we can do either.
2 weeks from today - it'll be time for food, fun, friends and laughs -
how sweet it is!
The peanut oil comes in a three gallon box. Last time I bought one it was around $22.00. I can pick one up and you guy's can split it.
You'll be a little shocked when you go looking.....CostCo was $48 for a 35 lb jug and SamsClub is $55.....last year I bought it for about $28. Not sure if the jub(in a box) is a bit larger then last year....
from the Costco website -
Kirkland Signature
Peanut Oil
35 lbs
Item # 71013
$53.32
Not sure what peanut oil weighs - 7-8 lb/gal? just a guess.
have not gone to store to see price in person - or check availability.
Teri and I are willing to contribute....
WOW...I called our friends at Walmart and they have Crisco pure peanut oil for $42.00. That's still almost twice what I'm used to paying.
Kenny, did you buy it last year?
good news on the rv front -
rv all fixed up now - ALL new brakes complete front and rear, bearings, everything.
we're ready to roll south - can't wait to see everyone in 2 weeks!!!
whomever gets the oil, wherever, rest assured, we'll contribute.

Kenny, did you buy it last year?
No, I brought oil for the Shrimp and some odds and ends last year. Your Mother cooked the Turkey in her trailer and Ric and his wife brought a bunch of food as well. Of course you had somthing, I can't remember except we filled up the big table with food... The last time you deep fried was when your Dad and his family were down.
I'm still working some things out and if I can't make it for Thanksgiving, I'm going to try and get down for the weekend and Monday.

So Chuck, since you are the master fryer, now that there are 2 oil takers, joester and I, more are welcome too, how much oil is need for the two turkeys? and although Sub might disagree with the choice of place, seems like Walmart might be the winner :eek3: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
We can have it at my place. I have two six foot tables and six chairs. I'll bring the oil,turkeys,ham,fryer and injectable marinade. I don't think I have enough dinnerware for everybody.
Including myself I'll have a party of four.
I have some nice sturdy Dixie plates I can bring a stack of - doubled up they should hold a ton of food. I have a bridge table I usually bring down, and 4 more chairs to offer. maybe Chari can load our stuff into her jeep to bring it over from PDO :D
what else do we need?
Chari??
I have the back seat out of the Jeep. I can bring anybody's stuff that need me to. I have a 6 foot table and 3 or 4 chairs that I can bring, also. What's your space number Joe? I'm in the north 40, space 349. Oh, I have plastic eating utensil set-ups that I can bring. They have everything including salt, pepper and a napkin in a little plastic bag for one. I'll throw a bunch in.
Chuck, you want to do a potluck sign up so we don't have one potato, one vegetable, no bread and 87 desserts? :lol:
Chuck, you want to do a potluck sign up so we don't have one potato, one vegetable, no bread and 87 desserts? :lol:
Sounds good to me. I think Inka is bringing stuffing and mashed potatoes.
Well, I guesstymated 15 people so far from this thread (including Bill H from "fishing") probably a better head count will be best to estimated the amount and types of foods that we will be bringing.
From our side we are 3 people and we will be bringing home made mash potatoes, meat stuffing and "papa a la huancaina" yes, you can google it and make sure you do not drool on the keyboard!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: might get your upper case key stuck!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
Teri and I were planning on bringing home made Pico de gallo (spicy and mild) and Teri's guacamole with chips as an appetizer, along with a batch of my pomegranate margaritas.
we also have plates for everyone - the heavy Dixie plates from Costco. Will also bring plenty of napkins.
My Daughter and my VERY WELL BEHAVED Grandchildren will be gown with us for the Thanksgiving weekend.
Can they come ? I know this is touchy but if you say no there will be no hard feelings. Every one will especially love the granddaughter. They get bad they go home .
I have extra tables and chairs if you need them ! Having not done this before what would be best for us to bring besides our drinks.
As many of us do not know each other and I am bad at memory, can we have name tags ? I will bring them.
Bill,
Your welcome to bring them all. I'm in space #36 in San Rafael. It's at the end of the middle row.
I have a 11 lb and 14 lb turkey and a small two lb ham. I'll have chips and dip also. My wife make a killer drink she calls "The Pink Johnson" It has 5-6 different flavors of rum.
Chuck -
thanks again for making us newbies feel so welcome :)
Bill - it may seem a bit corny for some, but I like your name tag idea -
personally, I have a disease called CRS - (Can't Remember Sh' t), so I like the idea ;)
heck, it may even help the next morning, if I can't remember who I am :oops:
:D Have you invited HAPPY yet? Isn't he do back here soon? He could fry up some :fish: :fish: .
Tomorrow :sunny: is the big day :o HAPPY is getting out of the hole and should be allowed by the powers that be to mingle among us once again. Whether or not the great one will want to grace us with his presence remains to be seen but for myself, I'm a fisherman and Happy is the :fish:
I thought that I had sent this before but it did not show up.
My daughter and her two VERY WELL BEHAVED CHILDREN will be with us for thanksgiving.
Will it be OK if we bring them. If they are bad they will be sent home. If you do not want them to come just let me know and there will be no hard feelings. I know everyone will love my grandaughter.
We have extra chairs and tables if needed. Just let me know. As we have not participated before what would be best for us to bring besides our drinks . Also because we are new and my memory is bad can we bring name tags for everyone ? If we can help in any way just let me know. We will be down on Wed hopefully by 6:00 pm
Bill you did post this before.

We need to get a head count?
Let's get the menu together?
Nine days and counting...
count Teri and Joe as 2 -
we'll bring our home made Pico de gallo (spicy and mild),
and Teri's guacamole with chips as appetizers - plenty of sturdy paper plates, napkins and
Joes pomegranate margaritas - also split the cost of the peanut oil.
Bill, no problem we like children, well done!!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
joking aside, that will be great, some more kids for my kid to play with!!!! :D
Gentlemen, & Ladies, ~~~ It sounds like you are going to have quite a group, ~~~ It is probably too late to reserve for t-day , ~~~ but did you know that you could have used the club house @ PDO, ~~~ then no problem if wind came up, ~~~ We have done many times, ~~~
~~~ THE GOOD BOOK SAYS, ~~~ BE TOLERANT OF THY FELLOW MAN, ~~~
And I have a party of four. Did I miss anybody?
It's looking better about being there on Thursday Chuck, and if it all works out I'll bring you some cold cash to help with the cost of the Turkeys etc .
I'm sending you a email.
Does meet and greet from from 1:00 - 3:00 sound good? Then we can eat :chef: . If the weather is bad we do have a club house that nobody ever uses. I have a kitchen stove and a coleman stove we can use.
add another propane stove to that if needed.
we're planning on getting there by 1 or so to PDO - shouldn't take too long to set up -
love the idea of the meet and greet "happy hour" -
see y'all in 3 days!! :sunny:
Hey Kenny
Does your last post lead me to believe I will not be able to meet you? That's a bummer if that is what you meen.
I will be there all weekend except Sun. am. I have to be protector of my Daughter as she is afraid to drive back to the border on Sun. Just a run up and back,
Drop in if you are down. Thur Fri and Sat look good to fish. I kind of think "mein Frau" will keep me at home on Thur. and yes she is pure German.
I'll be there... That was an old prank. You put poop in a bag and light it on fire on somebody's porch and run. They come out and stomp on it and get poop on their feet. It was a hook for Sally, aka HAPPY aka ROCKO. It almost worked, in fact in my book it did! He emailed me at home and asked me what it meant. OK, since I'm not dying of cancer, at least not today..LOL no more Mr nice guy. What do you think I meant Happy???
It looks like we'll be able to tell tales about the Pacific Northwest Bill. Did I tell you about the time I was at Silver lake a few years after Mount St Helen's blew fishing for Largmouth Bass? Well I was up at the end of one of the fingers and I had a great view of the side of the mountain that had been blown off and...to be continued... :D
our family of 2 has grown to a party of 3 -
our best friend Bill is coming with us tomorrow :)
we're going to do our best to bring a break in the weather with us also.
everyone have a safe trip - see y'all tomorrow early afternoon!
Thanks, yes I've been watching it, and even though it looks like it's going to clear up I'm packing for the worst. It's rainy and cold up here in Prescott and I'm sure Don is getting it even colder up in Flag, we might even get a little snow.
It's raining from the sea of Cortez up into most of AZ and a lot of California. Look for mudslides in Cali, it could get bad. http://weather.msn.com/hourly.aspx?wealocations=wc:MXSR0096&q=Puerto+Pe%c3%b1asco%2c+MEX+forecast:hourly
It does look OK with no wind in the afternoon, and that's big. Did you click on the site I put up Joe? I don't know where they get there info but it's always very close.
I thought that I was going to Tucson for the weekend but plans have changed so I would like to swing by to meet some of you. Sounds like fun. What should I bring? I'm not really prepared so maybe just a donation would do? Hope to see ya'll tomorrow. The sun is out and it is very nice right now, other than a bretty good wind blowing.
Jim,
Chuck's already on the road and doesn't have access to his e-mail but I am sure he wouldn't mind. We would all love to meet you. You can give Chuck a donation, he really is supplying a lot of the food. See you all tomorrow! :D
Well, let me be the first to say "WHAT A PARTY!" Good food and plenty of it! Yummy pomegranate margaritas and Pink Johnsons. Great company! It was so good to finally meet Joester and Teri, Bill, too. And Bill and Edna Hale, Desiree, Corbin and Reagan, Ric, Terri and little Ric, Jim, Mike and Billie. Along with the Vivanco's and Kenny, a good time was had by all. Thanks to Chuck and Val for putting it on. That's a big job! And, after looking really iffy all week, the weather was fantastic! The whole party couldn't have been better! I am already looking forward to next year! Oh! I almost forgot, Bill, Joester and Teri's friend, took LOTS of pictures! He said he would post them here. Can't wait to see them. I'll post the Brownie pie recipe soon.
