Just saying but on bigger stuff your better off not paying (land deals for example) sometimes you wear them down and win sometimes not but if you pay someone else is always asking for more
Most of the time I ask to go to court and they just tell me to leave, they don't want to get off the street! Local street patrols know my truck by now and leave me alone !
The system has benefits. The mordita taken is often far, far less than the fine, which is very important to Pensco Residents. One friend was stopped and they took his last 5 pesos, but not him to jail nor did they confiscate his unregistered truck. Worked out good for him. He could not afford a full fine and would have lost his truck because he cannot pay.
I think Jerry is correct about the big deals. If you talk big money the hogs start fighting at the trough. You can sometime negotiate a 'slider' that fills the bill pero no mucho dinero.

Sheeze! Thanks for the lesson "Newbie Gringo". If I ever need a lesson in being a know-it-all jackass, I'll be sure and look you up.
Hey Don, just remember that Penasco quiere limpiarse de esas suciedades y tu poniendo como malograr a los nuevos policias!, no sirves para nada bueno!! and by the way Lagrimas is right it is mordida not "mordita", there you go newie your first lesson to be learned and the second is you will be treated the same way you treat them so if you are corrupt they will throw you in jail and then you will be crying like a newie baby!!:getlife:
You've been corrected by others on your spelling of MORDIDA. Now let me tell you that in English, you might be feigning friendliness, but I suspect your ignorance is legit.

You admit to being a great part of the reason that visitors get stopped and hit up for money. This reflects your lack of respect for local law, and frankly, for the rest of us. Since you're feigning respect, and I'm willing to bet that your acting skills leave no doubt about your true feelings, you probably come across as condescending and smug to the pseudo bandito wanting a mordita.

He knows you don't want to go...nobody does. Your best option here is to bite the bullet and say, "let's go". As Roberto says, they will then undoubtedly tell you to take off without further problems. You want us to think your post is an attempt at being part of the solution? I say that going agreeing to go to the station is truly the best way to become part of the solution, Dude. Of course this tactic would cheat you out of the smug satisfaction you probably get from doing it your way, right?

You are undoubtedly also insulting the good cops. Don't you care about anything or anyone? Is your sole purpose here to let everyone know how good you are at outsmarting (in your own mind) those you consider beneath you?

Ah...the Ugly American way of dealing with money: First, have the attitude that pulling a few greenbacks out will cause the dirty masses to fall at your feet, and then...grind them down on what you'll give them. Is this also your approach to the women on Calle 13?

It is incredibly ironic that you would give this advice in ALL CAPS and yet it is the part you should most take into account yourself. The custom of the mordida wasn't started by Mexicans, it is the invention of Americans who began to come here to raise hell and, when caught, would rather throw money at underpaid officers than face the music for their actions. That nasty habit (the mordida) is a disease you brought here. Take it back. Change your stupid ways. You aren't helping anyone.

You are angry at those who resist to play the dirty little game that you are so much a part of. And you're so used to (used to, but not necessariloy good at) using reverse-psychology (feigning ignorance, acting like you have no money, etc.) that you're actually trying to use it on us by acting as though you're defending the ideals of Mexico. With deference to Joe's favorite avatar, you've shown your ass. You are selfish, disrespectful and not very bright. If anyone here wanted advice, why would we take it from you?
Well, the back story. I started coming to Mexico with my Folks in the 50's. Grand dad owned a big ranch south of agua prieta, thats where I would spend most of my Summers when I was a kid. By the early 60's I was traveling on my own thru Northern Mexico. The 1st place I lived was Matazlan, I had a small ranch just to the North and East. During the 60s & 70s it was a wonderful little place. '68-'69 combat in Nam. In 1970 I went in with 7 other friends and we bought a place on Cholla Bay. It was good for a quick get away while attending ASU. In the 80s I sold the ranch and moved to Guadalara. I was married to a Mexican girl who passed away. I have 1 Mexican Son, 42 yrs old, who lives with his wife in Guaymas. That is where I spend most of my time now. With my 4 Grand kids and 7 great grand kids. My spelling sucks (I know) so lame comments about it fall on deaf ears, as well as the lame demning opinions and comments. I have paid my dues here in Mexico, along with Mordida. Any Questions kids? Newbie Gringo..I think not. That just happened to come up when I posted.
I never expect to get respect from the Low-Lifes. I have found out in life though, that the intellegent folks seem to have an understanding of what I have to say, wheather they agree or not. They do not need to stoop to gutter-sniping posts, petty comments on spelling and grammar, that are intended to be down right nasty.
You are right about getting boxed around on this board. Naturally, they are rude comments made by a lower class of folks than I am used to dealing with.
I know Stewart occasionally posts on the San Carlos boards, and sometimes comes down and fishes; he has always made intellegent and humorus posts.
Glad to know that there are a few decent folks on this forum, mixed amoung the riff-raff.

I paid a 14,000,000 m.n. (14 million pesos) bribe in Mexicali in 1990 and lots of bribes in the 2-3 million peso catagory. I also paid a clerk at Hacienda 50,000 pesos to speed up the permit process for a new business. 200 to 300 pesos seems pretty cheap. Back then I also paid 1,200.000 for my house a month.
The mordida was not brought on by the ugly american. It is an unfortunate way of life in Mexico. I was taught by Mexicans, not Americans but I do say to bring me to the station. It is the bad cops, which outnumber the good, that keep it going. Sorry if people don't like it , but the facts speak for themselves.

Dan, but its not unique to Mexico, there are plenty of people stateside more than willing have their palms greased. The former director of the port in Nogales, AZ. was sentenced for taking money and other things from the M.M.
the main problem is that most people believe that the US is not corrupted when in fact it is very much so, at many levels of government and businesses, what I find ridiculous are those people who think highly of themselves and then turn around and show how much twisted they are by being part of the corruption!! and I am not necesarily talking about donjames!
I still say that the "custom" is the result of Americans being too quick to take the easiest way out of a situation by throwing dollars at it. The decision to pay or not pay when pulled over is a personal one, but one should always be aware that when you do that, you're assuring that the next gringo the cop sees will also represent an easy $20 bucks. This grows the problem and affects those of us who truly want to improve the system for everyone.
DonJaime, that you're an old man who has "paid his dues" doesn't change the fact that your original post is much more than just rife with misspellings and bad grammar. The worst part is that it's insulting and wrong-headed. Then you come back and call all who disagree with you "lame". Well, your post was lame. You might be capable of better input in the future, and I certainly hope so...but you scored low on this attempt. It was lame of you to step off on the wrong foot.
I once was stopped for speeding in San Carlos. The Officer would not take the "M" and insisted I pay the Commisario. Well, 2 days later and 5 trips to the office I finally was able to pay. And, all of that time I was without my Drivers License.
Another time, coming south, 1/2 way to Guaymas from Hermosillo, I was stopped for speeding. The officer said "in order to pay the fine I must return to Hermosillo to pay the fine". I figured that would kill the day and I begged the officer to take my money on the spot.
Could something please be done to surmount the Mexican Bureaucracy? Then, perhaps, one can follow the letter of the law in a timely manor. Until then a person will be tied up with waiting until hell freezes over, just to pay a fine.
You folks who would get mixed up in the Bureaucracy must have all the time in the world to waste.
If I spend 5 hours to pay a 200P fine to save 100p then my time was spent @ 20p per hour...My time is more valueable than that.
Perhaps I am a scoff-law, But I am a happy scoff-law with time to enjoy myself; I choose to not spending hours and hours dealing with the Authorities over a $20 fine.
A person is not required to take my advice. A prudent person will naturally do what they feel is best in each situation. But, I believe that informed folks can make better choices.
Rosie, I respectfully disagree with you, we can not blame all of Mexicos woes on the "American". I bet you make a pretty penny off of them, NO?

I don't see any posts in this thread suggesting that Americans are not corrupt, or even that they are less corrupt than Mexicans- and I would even go so far as to declare that there are very few Americans left who are not at the end of their patience with the level of corruption that has infested American institutions of government and regulation.
Typically, the only people who fail to identify corruption are themselves corrupt. I agree with Dan- the Mordida has existed since the days of the Conquistadors, it is not an invention of Americans; Ugliness does not have a national origin, nor does it wear a skin of a particular color.
and the best way to conduct yourself is to take the position of moral righteousness. If a cop (whether corrupt or not) saw you infringe on a law or statute, then you have a case to settle with the people that the gov't represents, so go take it before a judge.
I won't argue that the Mordida is more convenient, but I will argue against its righteousness based on the argument that "this is the way it's always been". Changing wrong to right does not happen by continuing to do things wrongly.
I have paid LESS money in fines since I have started asking to go to the station. Typically the cop does not want to escort you back, so they cut you loose with a warning.
Now, I concede that this is likely due to the fact that they feel that they stand a better chance of earning a shakedown from the next chump they stop, but hey, at least I get to move on my way with out guilt... :)
I guess I should find out what you people have been doing to generate all this police contact. I've never been stopped. I'm sure I've spent far less time driving in Mexico than most others on this board, but I've never heard any accounts from other Tucson travelers about encounters with police going to, from or around Rocky Point, negative or otherwise.
Maybe this is a good time to ask about speed limits. I consider the posted speed limits between Sonoyta and Rocky Point and Las Conchas and Mayan Palace to be unreasonably slow, and nobody seems to abide by them. I try to drive about 60 mph from Sonoyta to R.P., where the max posted speed is 90 k (about 55 mph), but often much less than that, and I always get passed a lot. I never see anyone pulled over for speeding.
Maybe in the past these highways weren't as good as they are today, or maybe there used to be free-ranging livestock along certain stretches, in which case lower speeds might have been approrpiate. But I can't understand why they would want you to drive 43-54 mph (70-90 k) under the conditions I see now. When the Mexican government gets around to asking for my opinion, I'll suggest they set reasonable speed limits and enforce them rather than posting unreasonably low speeds and letting everyone ignore them.
My suggestion for a speed limit for most of the way from Sonoyta to Rocky Point would be 105 KPH, or 65 mph, with a few short stretches of 50 or 55.
I have been driving in Rocky Point for 37 years and I have NEVER been stopped! I've had a Dodge Colt, A Triumph Spitfire, a big Dodge Van 250 Tradesman, 2 Cherokees and my present vehicle, a Jeep TJ. I don't know why others have been stopped........I never got stopped with the Spitfire, even tho I was young and pretty.....Go figure....
I once (in the early 70s paid a clerk in Cook County to lose my court papers....again and again....I bet you can still do it but the electronic world makes it way harder now days .i think that is why it's part of mexican live still..less wired down here
:) Let the record clearly state that I have only been stopped in Mexico for speeding- about 5 times over 20 years. The first time I was 19, and it was about 11pm on the highway 5 miles north of RP, The cop "suggested" that it would be easiest to pay him $10, so I did. That was the one and only time I submitted to the gratuity, but being late at night out in the middle of nowhere, I was motivated simply to resolve the situation and be on my way.
I got stopped in Sonoyta once for speeding in a "Zona Escolar" during a weekday, and I was guilty as charged- I was not paying attention to the signs, and I told the cop I would pay the fine at the police station, so he escorted me back and I ponied up the $30 fine.
Every other time I have been stopped, I've contested the cop's observation and asked to go and see the judge. Every time, the cop has let me go.
Audsley, I had to run into the back of a truck down by Santo Tomas to get any attention at all, and even then it was just a $25 fine. Maybe our new friend can give me lesson's on how to get stopped, as well as how to pay the M. How can they tell the difference between myself, and our new friend? Hey! Maybe if I put a sticker on the back of my Jeep saying I was here in the 50's that would help.
Oh my!! I'm so sorry if that sounded like I'm a low life, but I sleep under trailers, not in them.
DonJaime.....Bitter envy? For what? Breaking laws that result in police contact?
Regardless of whether some of the people that have posted agree or disagree with mordida, you got jumped on for the attitude that came across in your original post!!!
Would I pay it?....that depends on the situation. Definitely if I could have avoided spending 3 days in Penasco after my accident (fault was with the other driver) to get my truck out of impound and get an estimate for the damage, that I really didn't need to get, and having to take that time off from work.
Why do I say things like "I was here in the 50's", as if I was in Mexico as I wrote that?:???:... OK, I was here in the fifty's, but I was here and there as well.
Bitter envy is a touching sentiment, and it's all about the I I I me me me, in our new friend.
There is one common, well almost, denominator in all who popped up to almost brag about the amount, and times they've paid bribes. Anyone care to guess what that might be?
I thought about it for a second, but quickly came to the conclusion that my time was way to valuable to spend time thinking about it.:notme:
Kenny, I hate it when you make me think, I will rake the rocks from under my trailer so you will have a bad night sleep!! :o oh wait you should not be talking to the riff-raff trailer trashers!!
PS: corrupt americans might be the answer!! oh no, no it is suppose to be corrupt mexican cops!!
STFU! This forum has got to be the MOST entertaining board that I have ever had the pleasure of being insulted on! Funnier than Hell, is that how it rambles!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING PURA RP. I had forgeten how fun and mindless it can be up there in RP. THATS what I always loved about it. Fun! Fun! and More Fun!
We can all be serious Manana! Pero, Manana no llega.
Rosie, I respectfully disagree with you, we can not blame all of Mexicos woes on the "American". I bet you make a pretty penny off of them, NO?
I have never blamed all of Mexico's woes on Americans, but I stand by my comments in this case, and about you. As for what I earn, let me assure you that it's a fair amount for a good job when I do it. Are you insinuating that I take advantage of someone? Mexicans? Americans? Everyone? Anyone? Once more you show us that you are quick to speak just because you can. You obviously want us to give you a pass because you're old...well lots on here are old too, and yet manage to contribute something worthwhile. Try it next time, Gramps.
I was fishing Rosie, and you just threw a rock in right next to my bait!:hairout: I know, why use bait, when you've got a stick of dynamite you want to throw.
I was fishing Rosie, and you just threw a rock in right next to my bait!:hairout: I know, why use bait, when you've got a stick of dynamite you want to throw.
Aw, Kenny...you know my fishing style lacks the finesse of bait. I love the BAM! WHAM! of DYNO-MITE! Now quit tearing your hair out. I suspect you'll get another shot at this before long.
The art of Mordita is "do not give then anything"...Ask to go to the court is necessary. The more you give, the more the people following you will be hit. They tried me once for 40.00 and I didn't give them anything.
Also if you obey the traffic laws and do not go flying through Soynota they will not bother you. icross at least 15 time a year and no problems. In pt penasco wear you seat belts and park on the right side of the rode and you will do fine.
also concerning mordita is that is will stop people from coming to penasco. First there hear of all the violence that doesn't exist here andd then they hear about crooked police which i personally have not seen and soon no one will come here.
Remember we americans have changed rocky point from a nice little fishing village in a tourist mecca with condo's etc and now we have deserted them.
We should do all we can to get people back

And it's not because she doesn't get noticed. I followed Chari in one time, and you should have seen the heads turn as she went by in her big off road Jeep. I was laughing at the open mouth's and turning heads. Nope, that girl has never flown under the radar.
You are too funny Kenny!! Nope, I cannot sneak under any radar! I have people coming up to me at the border asking me if I am "The" Ladyjeeper....Kind of scary being that well known......But, it is what it is...
So true !!!! I was with chari at the duty free store when that guy came up to her..... well her plates on the jeep do say CHARI so maybe thats a bit of a give away !!!!

ROSY, I am nuetral in your little scrap with Kelly but need to ask a question. When you mentioned the band needing fm-3s to work in Mexico was that just free legal advice or a veiled threat , meaning if you dont want to pay me the money I am asking Mexican Immigration could be notified and the show could be stopped anyway? Is this another lesson in Mordida 101 from a lady that asks people not to pay the police?
It was not a veiled anything. It was a reminder that I was not going to be helping her with that, so it was a detail she should look after. She was aligned with Steve Schwab's charity, and he certainly has the personnel capable of taking care of that for her. Keep in mind that the final email exchange was weeks ago and we continued to promote the event. Why she really cancelled remains a mystery. I think she left Steve Schwab high and dry and since Steve doesn't like me anyway...she blamed me to avoid alienating him. Just a guess.
You say you're neutral, yet you're stretching to the "Mordita 101" thread in an attempt to catch me in hypocrisy? Nice neutral, Dude.

Lagrimas85 --- creating multiple screen names in order to make unnecessary comments or create drama will quickly get your IP address thrown in Banned Camp. You have been warned.
I urge all of you that, if you have something to publicly ask, say or infer about another member on this Forum, at least be above board about it and don't try to create a new identity to hide who you are. In case you haven't guessed, I know immediately when a new user name is, in fact, an existing user and have no reservations whatsoever about exposing who you are.

Wow! Lagrimas you big, fat fake. Did you think you were going to slyly discover Rosie Glover's ass hanging in the wind? Well instead you showed your own, didn't you?
Thanks Stuart, there are others that also do it and you are aware of this Stuart. It was a reasonable question. What differnce does it make if I am Lagrimas or Sea monkey everbody has a different identity on here anyway. I had already talked to Ladyjeeper about. It has nothing to do with being fake When Playaperro got banned the last time you told him as playaperro was banned and his other identity to so im not the first and you know it Stuart. you are a frickin jackass Thats bulls$%$t revealing my identity this could have been done privately. you dont know what you may have done ytou little chicken s###T. I will make a point of talking face to face with you in Puerto Penasco.

Lagrimas, you're the jackass. You asked a "reasonable question" but you asked it snidely and insinuated that I was being hypocritical at best and stong-arming someone at worst. I answered your question anyway, and I did it honestly and directly...before knowing that it was you disguised as another poster.
Your argument that everyone else is doing it is BS. I don't do it. I put myself out there. Everyone knows who I am, where I work and what I look like. By comparison, you look cowardly.
You might be able to create a new 'persona', but unless you can create one smarter than the original...you're still stuck in (just like you said) neutral. Now feel free to join Kelly Disney's group. She's looking for followers and there's every indication that the I.Q. requirements are more lax.
Rosy, dont change my words to I said others not everyone, I can create whoever or whatever I want and it seemed like a strange question to ask after they had told you they couldn't afford your services if somebody said that to me I would take it as a threat.

1. What does Ladyjeeper have to do with all this?
2. I'm getting good and tired of people acting like I wield some kind of power. Get over it. I'm disappointed in your behavior, but am quite used to the fact that every attention-seeker within miles sooner or later decides to rattle my cage. Your actions this morning have already gotten more play than you deserve.
3. Are you threatening Stuart?
Rosy, dont change my words to I said others not everyone, I can create whoever or whatever I want and it seemed like a strange question to ask after they had told you they couldn't afford your services if somebody said that to me I would take it as a threat.
I already explained, but let me break it down for you:
1. One month previous, she agreed to hire us. As a result, she got lots of free promotions and my commitment to help with her FM3 situations, also for free.
2. A month later she backs out and I feel duped out of the publicity, so I let her know I wasn't happy about it. At that time I also remind her to have someone other than me take care of the FM3 stuff. She had Schwabby in her hip pocket, so this wasn't something she needed me for, anyway.
3. Weeks later she cancels, leaving Schwabby's charity in the lurch. How to save face? Blame the one person Schwabby doesn't like anyway!
Now, Lagrimas, if you need a better road map than that, you're outta luck. I have my own set of problems and my own life struggles...I don't have the time or the inclination to run around sinking other people's events. And if I have any credibility at all, it's because I don't abuse my position. And I certainly don't threaten people or extort money. You've lived here for a long time and claim to be "in the know", so I guess if you knew anything to the contrary you would already have aired it.
In the weeks since Russ and I were removed from the roster of event participants, I've moved on to other more important things and this ploy on Disney's part was actually quite brilliant. By putting the spotlight on me, she took it off herself and her failure. On second thought, maybe you won't meet the I.Q. requirement for her group.
As for who can create what identities...that isn't my problem and I don't give a crap what you do. I can swat flies all day long. I still think Stuart did right to call you out, though. Better luck next time, Slick.
If you think I have gotten more attention than I deserve why do you keep it up.
'Cause I'm home sick today. Besides, I learned a long time ago that when someone literally begs to be made an example of, one should oblige. Don't worry, I'll lose interest soon enough.
I will make a point of talking face to face with you in Puerto Penasco.
Me to Stuart! Because the only time we've met face to face, was from boat to boat! :boat:
Well at least he didn't call you "boy".:stir:
Rosie, more than one person thought that that statement about the FM3 could have in been in some way, though maybe not threat, a indication you knew she was having problems with that. Why she would be I don't know, because there's more than one way to skin that cat, or bird.:cluck:

Yeah, I saw that when I re-read the emails, so that's why I mentioned that it was never an issue because Steve Schwab has people to handle any kind of problem. Also, as far as I knew she had no problem with the musicians or with anyone, I took it as that she just wanted to have her bases covered by having me look things over. I never suspected a problem before or even after she changed her mind about having us emcee. To this day, I have no reason to believe she had an FM3 problem. She was hooked up with Roger Clyne, and they know what they're doing.
So now if I tell someone to drive carefully, am I warning them that unless they pay me they'll develop "car problems"? This is ridiculous.
Now she is referring to all of you as my "clan" and dragging Russ under the bus. She wrote that we're saying she isn't issuing refunds. I haven't written any such thing and don't know that anyone has (in fact, I haven't even considered that people wouldn't get their refunds, as that would be shooting herself in the foot). This is just a blatant attempt to incite people who obviously don't have deductive skills.
I read all that yesterday, and do remember that someone said "wait until they don't get their refunds" and I'm sure that's where that came from.
Lets see, there's the the clan of the cave bear. What do you call your's Rosie?

Kenny...I was following this whole train wreck yesterday...and I'm not sure that that comment was made on Kelly's Discussion page....or on Rosie's....can't get to FB from this computer, so can't verify, but it was obvious that Kelly or one of her minions was following posts here and on Rosie's FB.....because of the "cartel" accusations she made on her page (Kelly's).....

You guys keep getting me in deeper and deeper. First we're a cartel, then we are claiming they won't get their money back, now we're a clan. I love you guys, but you aren't being very helpful.

With no small amount of trepidation I throw it open for suggestions...After all, just because we're a clan, doesn't mean we can't be diplomatic about it.

Nope not me, not with a ten foot pole..HAPPY!! What do we call the clan?
Technical question. If Tio Marco creates a forum identity on a home computer, then brother Billy Joe, using the same computer creates his identity on the same home shared computer how you gonna tell who is who? For example, I know for a fact that others have access to and use Lagrimas85's computer. How did you know that it was actually him and not another person? Did anyone make that inquiry before he got banned? Just askin ya know.

Did he get banned for the dual identity? I thought it was for his tirade at being exposed.

Rosy Sez: Did he get banned for the dual identity? I thought it was for his tirade at being exposed.
Why he got banned is not really relevant to my inquiry. Reading the moderators post he indicated that he believed that it was Lagrimas85 signing on as Sea Monkey, pointing out the IP number of the computer or service I just wonder why he was certain who it was given the possible scenario described above. Just a question. I'm not gettin in the middle of anything, my head is too far down in the sand !!!!

I totally get that your question is about the IP address. You asked whether anyone thought to check the actual identity of the poster before banning him. I figured the poster was banned (by this time he'd obviously admitted being Lagrimas) for his tirade.
Thank-you,
The Management
