Just heard on the morning news that the US State Dept. has posted a travel warning specifically for the state of Sonora due to the drug cartels. They did not pinpoint the specific problem areas, just used the old broad paintbrush. They are asking Americans to travel in convoys and the Mexican state police will be escorting travelers thru the most dangerous areas. 2 days before the holiday weekend......As usual.....Argh!:aagh::aagh::aagh::aagh:

Typical "Don't spend the money in Mexico spend it in the U.S." but that is just the way I read the reports.

This has more to due with Mexicans returning home for the Holidays than it does with anything tourism related. The Mexican government has made the same announcement. They are asking folks returning home to caravan, not travel at night, and seek police assistance for escorts. Many of these folks only return home to Mexico once a year at the Holidays and they come loaded with cash and gifts. Sitting ducks for the bad guys and cartels to pick off. This was announced on the radio yesterday here in Phoenix.

OK but that was not how it was presented on the channel 3 news this morning. It was US State Dept and American tourists......

They had the same article in TV here in Tucson, however it was worded as Stuart says, directed to the mexicans going to Mexico for the holidays
