Sand Drags

Joe we go to the Sand drags at least twice a year here, they are held at Los Patos raceway on your left as you are coming into Penasco from the north. They quit doing them years ago on Sandy Beach but they are regular at Los Patos. The machines come from all over Northwest Mexico and it is always fun. Taco stands, hot dog (Bacon wrapped) stands Ice Cream and soft drinks and Cervezas all available for a reasonable price, like 15 pesos for a fully dressed dog with fries, 15 pesos for an ice cold Tecate so lunch for 30 pesos or 2.50. I think it cost 5.00 a person to get in or 50 pesos and you have back pit access so its really cool for the kids to go and see these 4x4 hot rods. I will look for past photos but I do have a link to a quicky video we shot last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXg_s3TWfA
and another by the folks out at La Pista los Patos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zxUBKHeNLk&feature=fvw

Russ...I had heard some about the "local" sand drags....but there used to be a yearly one from people from the states....that's the one I was referring to.....that I thought they had stopped doing.
Ladyjeeper
Now that sounds like something I would like. Let me know when the next one is, Russ

The Camel Toe Cantina is going to organize the event (with help from others) We started the idea and opened it up to all last year. It got to be kind of a cluster **** so we will try to localize it this year. I hope it works and gets better every year. www.rockypointfunrun.com will have info as the event gets closer. Oh, and maybe I'm letting the cat out of the bag early but we won't be the Camel Toe Cantina any more. So... All you haters of the name better show up!
jerry
Hmmm. what would be a good new name for Jim's bar?
Ideas from the internet:If one man says to another, "Nos vemos en mi oficina" (Lets meet in my office), both know it doesn't imply a business meeting but the name of a bar on Revillagigedo street in México City. A similar message applies to "El Colegio" (The School), another tavern in the city.

Anecdotes about bar names abound. Thirty years ago in Tampico, in state of Tamauliapas, a bar opened opposite the cemetery. Its name was "Aquí se está mejor que enfrente" (Here it is better than across the street). Months later, someone put a sign on the cemetery gate that said: "We here were once over there."

Scattered around the bullring in Downtown Cancún there are several cantinas, each featuring traditional names like "La Guadalupana" -honoring México's patron saint-and "La Faena" (the bullfight), or creative names like "La Jalada" (to pull a fast one), "El Albur" (the pun) or "La Changada," which can be loosely translated as "monkey business," but is only one letter away (change the first A for an I) from a swearword in México.

Names might refer to anything; it is all a matter of catching the eye of passers-by and getting them to drop in. Perhaps no name came straighter to the point than "¡Detente, hermano!" Let's face it, who would bypass a bar called Stop, brother! Orders are orders.

Now who ever had a problem with the name???...I always thought it was pretty good! Did someone find a third partner? Someone with more sensitivities than most of us on here???:stir:
Jim
I've gotten a hard time since we took over. Many people from my mother to my wife to passers by hates it. I always said "love it or hate it, you'll never forget it" It gets pretty dicey when I get a client at my office at the Sonorans and the conversation comes up. I usually just say "Camel Cantina" and leave it at that. Some of them probably don't appreciate it when they go by and see it. Now I can actually promote it to them and give them free drink/food coupons. More surprises to come and I'll probably get in trouble for saying what I already have - but you guys are my family and won't say anything right??? I really have mixed feelings about changing it but yes, I don't have the majority vote any more. Better go get a pic in front of the sign while you can. Also, if any of you have pics of the CTC in action, would you please send them to me? We are going to market CTC merchandise with a new online store and will probably still offer t-shirts etc at the bar but that's it. The original owner and creator Toby probably wouldn't be happy about it but things change... New year with a new plan.
AZ ROB
For me the Cameltoe was always my little "Mexico Hideaway" the wife didn't like going there as much but hey put me down for a couple of t-shirts before they are gone...
