I know there was a thread started on closed businesses over winter, but hey--a lot has happened since then!
We all know Manny's is open for March. And the Thirsty Parrot closed, but will reopen as The Joint in the old Portofino location next to Flavio's in the fish market. Is that ready yet or far from it? And any of you locals care to add what is 100% open (but was rumored to be closing) or what is 100% closed?
The Wreck at the Reef has moved into their new quarters next to Mare Blu. We heard that an upscale Mexican Restaurant is/was going to open up in the space above Mare Blu. Has anyone heard anything about that?
In the last few weeks I have tried 2 new places Terramare on the way to the Malecon this was really good went there on opening night , Sat. I tried the small place below Debbies at the Malecon that also was very good and inexpensive..

Stopped by the new Wrecked at the Reff....nice setup. The bartender also mentioned the new Mexican restaurant opening upstairs next door...where the Wrecked had been located. Didn't say how "upscale" it would be...

Did he indicate when it would be opening? If same management/owner as Mare Blu would think it would be very good.

Rob, if you swing by again, could you make a note of the name of the new place below Debbie's? Thanx!
The menu from the place below Debbies said Chili Peppers. The waiter said it was the same place as the Restruant by same name that was next to Max's.. The all you can drink I think (it was after leaving the Malecon when I saw the sign) was $20.00 and it was for a nightly wrist band.
The original owner of Perico Marinero, in the fish market, re-opened it, hopefully they will have the Jaiba platter, to die for but not by bullets as in calle 13!!

New to this site, and I'm really happy I found it!
Manny's opened last Thursday. Nobody was there except for two of us, but it was good to see it up and running. Bartenders Sergio and Antonio told us that they would stay open through Labor Day. We hope so, but Manny does what he wants...
We went to a special party to preview Mi Familia, upstairs from Mare Blu last Thursday. The enchiladas were good, the menu which I viewed, but was not available, was a different kind of Mexican food, which we're ready to try in a couple of weeks. The restaurant is really beautiful, and on the same level as Mare Blu.
Our leased condo at Las Palomas this winter was a huge disappointment regarding services, but that's a topic for another thread apparently. Bottom line: No food, no beverage service, No restaurants, no bars, no Room Service for the last 8 weeks. They let go 175 employees but that's documented in RP Times in March. They are all still closed as of today.
We found Rincon de Regina re-opened as Mezon de Regina on No Reeleccion near Rossy's. They're open for breakfast and lunch. I hope that Matilde can resume the flaming coffee show and the Molcajete soon. We ate there twice for lunch, and the food is great!
Porto Mio is moving along, the Malecon has no access, but the large free parking lot is still available via an entrance a block or two back from the main street.
Bodega Aurrera (WalMart) opened last Friday. The parking lot was PACKED! I feel bad for Santa Fe across the street. Super Ley will probably take a hit too.
Hope Spring Break is good to the town. It needs it!
Okay - do you know when Mi Familia is going to open? I would guess that they would like to gather in some of the Spring Break crowd. You mentioned the enchiladas were good - what would you compare them to? My DH loves cheese enchiladas but hasn't been too impressed with the ones he has had so far. I had great mole at Ramon's Cocina and so-so mole at Ramons at Sonoran Sea. Appreciated your review.
Re Super Ley - we were there yesterday and it seemed different - spruced up, etc. Eggs were actually clean and refrigerated. Quite a few people shopping. Think Super Ley figured they had better make more effort since there was additional competition in town.

I just talked to Manny Senior today and yes he is open. Nuff said, listen for his spots on Radio Sol 106.1 Saturday 12 - 2 or http://www.rpcal.com click on the 106.1 button
I'm not really an enchilada eater, so I have no real comparison for you:( Has your DH tried enchiladas at La Curva? A lot of people rave about it, and although the food is pretty good, I just can't get past the lighting of the place.
One thing that Super Ley has that I haven't seen at any other grocery store is that great deli section! Where else can you get Mexican Spaghetti topped with lard? Yeah, I tried it, and it does OK in a pinch after about 6 Margaritas!
Camel Toe Cantina has added a partner and become Hideaway Cantina.
They have lost all feeling of what Camel Toe used to be and what their customer base was. Was in there Saturday night, should have been the start night of a great week. Bar is nice and clean, but music sucked, too loud and is not properly advertised or promoted.
We were the only 3 in there at 9 pm. New partner is a nice guy whom we know, but he has no idea of what made the 'Toe great. I wish him luck. Off to the strip we went. Even the atmosphere at Manny's has changed. But it was miles ahead of the Hideaway on that night
Anyone know if Manny's decided to stay open past the end of March? I am sincerely hoping to be able to hang there during Circus Mexicus weekend. My trip would just not be complete!
I'm pretty sure they're still talking about Manny's on the Rocky Point Rambling show, and they just updated their Facebook page as recently as Thursday, if that means anything...All the way to June, though, who knows.
Jill, former owner of the Sand Bar has opened Pinky's, lower pool level at Pink Cadillac. Only public swim up bar in Penasco that I know of. Two bachelor parties this sunday. They are going to have wet T shirt contests !! Wow, how original.:gradea::gradea:
Stopped at the Sunset Cantina, end of Calle 13 across from the Pinacate last night. Had a great wailer, didn't get his name. Some pretty local girls there and dancing was too. Nice place.
Someone told me that Monday night was hooker night at the Hideaway. Not an officially sponsered event, just seems to happen that way I guess.
Porto Fino at the newest location across from La Roca, has changed the name to No Solo Agua. Italiano no mas, pero Pizza. They are shooting for a broader and more Mexican customer base. The harbor side patio is really nice.
El Sombrero on Calle 13, Penasco's only 24 hour restaurant is up for sale, still open though. Good tacos and Mexican food. Maybe Sergio is moving back to Hermosillo, all he will have left is Gua Guas. His Arizona Hotel is for sale too. Housing for the dancers !!

Hahaha...that's the way rumors get started, Happy. I'm glad to report that the comments on the show are better than ever.
We finally are getting more control over the music, and we have more sponsors than we expected. Station managers have hinted at the need to expand the Ramblings. Don't know yet whether that means make the show longer on Saturdays or making it a Sat & Sun thing. We'll see how it pans out. The interesting thing to me is how many non-English speakers are regular listeners. Also, there are sponsors (like Colchones Monarca, the new mattress place) that are traditionally geared towards the Mexican market, yet they want to advertise on the show.
Normally Kenny is a good source of information, so this is kind of off...but whatever.

Aw, Haps! You know that whenever you want to play, I'll make time. Seriously...you got me dead to rights (right in the middle of my defensive streak). That's why you used Kenny as bait, though. He lends an air of credibility. Round 1 goes to Happy.
I've been reading this nonsense for quite awhile, hooked and all that. Guess I'm stupid but I just don't get it. What are the rules. Happy posts something and if someone answers you're "hooked" and Haps gets to carry on about it ?
Happy, you have made contributions to the public good from time to time, wish more of that.

~ ~ ~ I AM THE GREAT HAPPY ! ! ! ~ ~ ~ THE LEGEND OF THIS HERE FORUM ! ! !
I am truly dissapointed in most of you. Do you think it is funny to mess around with the mentally retarded like Happy? I don't think it is funny. The poor guy is challenged and we are here playing along with him.
Happy, if you could please take your helmet off- I just want to apologize, it is not nice to play games with the mentally handicap and I hope you are not offended.
Well...back to putting Happy on my "Ignore List".....it's to the point of being tiresome reading his drivel....."never get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man!!!"
When you reply back you all really ruin a thread that was about something interesting. Way to screw it up for people who come on here actually looking for information. Keep your personal stuff in the personal messages.
