No, they just have the work ethic of a union member.
Well that explains why it seems to have been published ontime and is of higher quality than any of the so-called Rocky Point news sites I've ever seen.
Remember the old RPtimes website? That was definitely a scab site.
That have a story coming up ( A report of where Tequila comes from and how it is made). Also (A history of the fishing industry from its veryinception here in Penasco.) that should be popular as well.
And remember this invitation "As time goes by, we are hoping that others will come forth and help us by contributing and sharing.kind of like you all do on the forum".

Alright, haha...there is a comedian in the group. I can appreciate that as much as anyone else. The reality is that this newspaper is like any other newspaper you have ever seen...even in the States; bringing you the stories that are press-released by goverments and/or other interests, and sometimes editorializing, while encouraging discussion whether we agree with it or not.
As an aside I will tell you that as a woman whose 23 yr old son just got back from his second tour in Iraq, I am cautious about what I criticize about the U.S. and in front of whom. I have a voice and know how to use it, but I also understand respect...above all else for my son.
But as a citizen of Mexico as well, it offends me when people are snide about the law/crime thing. Let's take a look at the young man who was handcuffed and then shot by the police in L.A. first.
Anyone who thinks one country is better than the other and still comes down anyway must be either trying to exploit something or hiding from something, is what many think.
Visit my newspaper if you want to, don't if you don't. And if you want to visit and criticize...hell, do that too. Then bitch about not having news available in a timely manner in English. Whatever suits you.
People who live here or visit will benefit from information. More information is better than less. Current information is better than old.
Then I'm glad I contacted you Rosie. We have a well rounded bunch here and although many of us have met or communicated with each other, in some cases for years, we still agree to disagree. For the most part, but not always, it stays civil, and yes, we have some very good comedians on here as well.
I think what a lot of us miss is the traffic we had on the old site. There are many people on this small forum who love to help and share information and have years of experience in PP, but now they have no real outlet like before.
Sounds like you have a lot of spirit Rosie, you'll do just fine. :sunny:
Kenny
Thank you for your paper. I have enjoyed it. Yes There are those who have to act like jerks in all countries I am always disguested with the Americans who act like a holes while viisting Rocky Point. They are rude and ignorant give the wrong impression to others about Americans. Mexico is a beautiful country that I love and respect the land and people. Coming from Chicago corruption is very common. Let's be fair to Mexico and look at our own house first.
When thinking about one country being better than another, keep in mind that Mexico has no need to construct a wall to slow the stream of illegal immigrants heading south. The millions of legal and illegal immigrants leaving their countries to live in the U.S. is testimony as to what is the better country. How many police officials have been executed in the U.S. during the last year? How can terrorized law enforcement organizations provide for public safety? And the common people are denied the right to bare arms to defend themselves while the police are preoccupied trying to keep each other alive (in Mexico).

Hold on there, Pilgrim. I was very specific in my post, and you have made a huge leap. I was referring specifically to Americans bashing Mexico while in Mexico. I would (and have) said the same thing to Mexicans who bash the States while there. I find it hypocritical. As for the tit-for-tat game you want to play about the violence, find yourself another playmate. I made no bones about the fact that I am proud of both my countries. I am not conflicted about that. But when some idiot wants to snidely say "law and Mexico is an oxymoron", I reserve the right to point out that in fact, there are police abuses every day in the U.S.
While we are on the subject (mostly because you rattled my chain, but what the hell), I will say that when violence happens, I worry...regardless which country it happens in. But I won't let some bruised-ego conservative pull me into a discussion that is far afield of what was being discussed just because he wants to use me as a way to have his favorite rant heard.
Welcome to the forum Rosy, I agree with you 100%, as a person, not american, not peruvian, not mexican, etc. I am disgusted of the show that you see MANY americans display in foreign countries, the arrogances with which they show the world how rediculous and stupid they sound and act, specially the pretenders, which after living in a few countries I have seen, and for those idiots out there remember I said "MANY", yes that includes YOU, however not all americans, luckly the mayority are decent and respectful to themselves and others!!
God shave the Queen!!!!! :eek3:
Cactus is always in the sidelines waiting to spew forth his indignation about illegal aliens- Someday his Mexican wife will probably wake up. My Mexican family are almost all citizens now but I will always have a place in my heart for those who come here to WORK. Many are now returning home now due to the recession.
Ok, Rosy, we are basically in agreement. My focus was narrow on your post that I replied to. If you have any knowledge of my posts over the last few years, you will know that my emphasis has always been on respect for the country that you are a guest. I have been consistent in voicing my opposition to reckless and irresponsible behavior of Americans while visiting Mexico, especially those who brag about their law-breaking behavior, and adults who encourage disrespectful behavior of our youth during Spring Break.
At the same time, I believe that our laws are to be respected and obeyed by foreignors, which includes obeying our immigration laws. One can always make a social excuse for breaking the law. Doing so is a slap in the face to the many who go through the time, effort, and expense to do it right and legally.
You mentioned being a citizen of both countries. It would be interesting to know the details of your dual citizenship, if you care to share them with the readers of this board.
I am happy to share the details. I was born in Los Angeles, California. My mother was born in Pitiquito, Sonora, where I was partially raised. I am an American by birth and a Mexican by right of lineage...born of a Mexican-born parents. I carry a U.S. passport and a Mexican credencial de elector. I have full rights, including the right to vote, in both countries.
I can agree that if the majority of Americans do not want illegal immigration to happen, then they should find an effective way to keep the people out. However I also think that if people get in, they should be treated humanely and with respect unless they are arrested for a crime.
By humane treatment I am referring to education, healthcare, and basic respect when they are standing next to you in the supermarket. It is not they, but whoever is supposed to be keeping them out, who have failed.
I further think that the whole English only movement is ridiculous.
Good morning Rosy, just wanted to let you know that the link in your signature to your insurance company is no good, I believe is 'cause you added the "insurance" word to it. :eek3:
Where ever and when ever I have traveled in Mexico it is always the bad American that makes me ashamed of some of us. I have traveled in Mexico for the last 63 years and love the people and the country. It is very likely that we will retire there. I only wish that I had known about the dual citizenship 45 years ago as I would have dual at this time.
Law and order --- The media and individual perception create the lawlessness attitude that some Americans have about Mexico. All you have to do is read or listen to the Phoenix news and hear the same thing. When you hear about the Mexican Police being shot in gunfights with the drug cartel you have to remember they are on the front line of trying to stop the drug movement into OUR COUNTRY. GIVE THEM SUPPORT.
I feel safer in most parts of Mexico than many parts of the USA. VIVA MEXICO
There are nice folks, assholes, and bigots of every color and across every border...even within our beloved Mexico. It seems that American bigotry and other negative traits are discussed far more then other nationalities...Europeans, Arabs, Asians, Africans and Mexicans included.
The pride that Americans should feel for the billions in humanitarian support and free military protection provided around the world far outweighs any embarrassment over a few tight fisted, loud mouthed, overly assertive knuckleheads who happen to be Americans.
In our house we literally count our blessings everyday for being born American. It gets a little old this "blame America for everything" bullshit.
"In our house we literally count our blessings everyday for being born American. It gets a little old this blame America for everything"
I don't think the negative traits of Americans get more attention, nor do I think everyone blames "America for everything". You are making an assumption and a generalization that's likely incorrect.
The flag-wavers (in any country) trouble me more than those who point out the weaknesses. Talking about problems can lead to improvement, and flag-waving just makes people think they are better Americans, the way bible-thumping makes people think they're better Christians.
My 23 yr old son spent three of the last five years in Iraq. I'm proud of him and our troops. What's that got to do with anything?
"In our house we literally count our blessings everyday for being born American"
Oh c'mon! I can practically hear God Bless America playing in the background. You write well, so I have no doubt you can make your points without the dramatic effect.
By all means we need to respect the people next to us in stores, most do, educating the undocumented is advisable to prevent crime and promote good neighbors- Emergency healthcare should be given to any one in need.
The majority of undocumented workers do not want hand outs. Those that want something for nothing, as few as they may be, need to go home to Mexico. I feel the same about Americans.
Mexico is very unfair in regard to dual citizenship for Americans. We must denounce the USA citizenship to become a legal citizen in Mexico-I have been working very hard to overcome this.
There needs to be immigration reform that is a must-and also there needs to be a road to legal residence for the deserving.
I'm serious. We count our blessings everyday for being born in America in this century.
If that sounds corny to some people it doesn't matter. We live better, have more opportunity, have better health care, better food, and whenever the world has needed saving, we get it done as best we can thanks to our troops past and present.
There are many people who slip in the blame America thing at many an opportunity. This post began by someone saying it was because of America's demand for drugs that there is chaos in Mexico cities.
Give me a break. Do we blame Mexicans for the murderous conduct of the Mexican street gangs that terrorize LA? Nay. That's America's fault too right?
I'll tell you a secret. Violence is to be blamed on those that initiate it. Not those who push back against it.
:usa: :usa: :usa:
yes...I am a flag waving American and no apologies whatsoever.
The lack of waving flags on my post doesn't make you a better American than I. And waving three flags doesn't make you better than waving one.
This thread did not begin as you say. It began because some idiot decided to mock my newspaper by denigrating Mexico and it's legal system. I took him to task and pointed out that crime exists on both sides of the border.
Wave your flag all you want to, but if you don't mind...would you please take it over to the corner so I can have a conversation? You are welcome to converse with me, but do not preach at me or wave your flag in my face.

The U.S. also requires that one swear an oath and renounce the original citizenship in order to become naturalized. I didn't have to go through that. I would not have done it.
"We have a well rounded bunch here and although many of us have met or communicated with each other, in some cases for years, we still agree to disagree."
Back in the day when my friends and I were drinking, getting loud, and it was looked like things could get out of hand. I would sing this real loud, AND WHADA FINE SIGHT TO SEE.
Of course the couldn't help themselfs and it would be, IT"S A GIRL MY LORD IN A FLAT BED FORD.. It always worked, Jackson Browne wrote it >>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kTAT4vj_hI
I stand corrected- In other words the oath means nothing to immigration in Mexico
I don't know what repurcussions it would have in the US if I took such an oath in Mexico without intent or desire to obey the oath.
Seems kinda wierd but if I became a citizen of Mexico and was called to fight I imagine I would just as many undocumented sneak into our military just because it sounds like a good idea at the time.

No, perhaps I didn't explain myself. I am dead tired and that happens with me. The oath means everything. I did not TAKE an oath. I am Mexican because I was born to Mexican parents. I am American because I was born in Los Angeles, CA. Ergo, dual citizenship. You raise an interesting point. Many immigrants over the years have earned their U.S. citizenship by serving in our army during times of war. And some of them have collected the honor posthumously.
Emergency healthcare should be given to any one in need.
The majority of undocumented workers do not want hand outs. Those that want something for nothing, as few as they may be, need to go home to Mexico.
I call bullshit on that one! Go to any of the states emergency rooms and you'll see more UDA's getting free services then you would at your primary care physicians office, why? because they have no intention of paying for it. If that's not a hand out then please educate me.

damn Americans...are you telling me that giving birth in the best hospitals in the world isn't free for all?
Well it darn well should be!

Mexico is very unfair in regard to dual citizenship for Americans. We must denounce the USA citizenship to become a legal citizen in Mexico....
dm, when I became a naturalized citizen of the USA I had to denounce my peruvian citizenship otherwise I would not be able to get my citizenship, I know that as an american you might not know that however as you can see there is no difference that I know between USA an Mexican laws when it comes to that and most countries are the same way, I believe there are a handfull of countries that will give you a double citizenship if you were born in one of their colonies/commonwealth states as is the case with Puerto Rico? and I am not even sure of that one.
It is a lot harder to inmigrate to Mexico than it is to do it to the USA, if it is done the legal way, anybody can live anywhere at any time, wether you are doing it legally or ilegally is a different situation.
OH!! and by the way denouncing my peruvian citizenship did not make me any less peruvian it just made me more part of the USA, I love the USA 'cause of many things and also because give me the oportunity to be what I want to be at any time because the resources needed are there if I so choose to, in other countries, specially third world countries, you might want to do many things and might have all the oportunities to do so, but are stopped by the lack of resources, which in many cases also happens here at a much, much smaller scale.
Patriotism is something that you feel inside, and you show as much or as little as you choose to, waving a flag or flags does not mean you are less patriotic than your neighbor.
InkaRoads, your words (and those of every American who came to be so by choice) get to me like no background music or flag waving ever could.
Thank you for making the sacrifice of leaving your homeland, and the brave decision to change your citizenship. In so doing, you helped to make the U.S. a better place!
Inkaroads- If you read my post it said I STAND CORRECTED- I have been through the immigration process with my wife and her 3 children right through to citizenship, so I know the process, just never heard the oath real good, so I read it.
I believe that Az Miguel is either racist or has the inside track with hospitals-I have seen many hispanics in emergency rooms but never questioned them as to their legal status- Reminds me of the time a guy on our crew called La Migra on several hispanics on the crew that couldn't speak english- When immigration arrived, he happily pointed out the three in question. They immediately showed their papers to the officials as the racist s.o.b. ran and was not heard from again.
Every one that needs emergency treatment should be stabilized before we question the ability to pay, we do that much for the enemy in a war.
I have been fighting a bill for three months for an ER visit. Twenty eight hundred bucks for an EKG for my wife and three hours of being ignored. My insurance refused to pay more than 12 hundred and they want me to pay the rest- Oh yeah, 800 bucks for meds-Three aspirin.
The process in Mexico takes muchg more time- For me,this is harder.
I love our mexican neighbors and will always argue their rights- I am also a proud american and a Yankee Doodle Dandy to boot
Inkaroads-

I find it incredible that we pay gazillions of dollars in bailout money to fat-cat executives who then go off to fancy resorts or retire with a huge chunk of the bailout funds, yet we complain about paying the bill for someone's emergency room visit.

childbirth is a bit more then an emergency room visit. are you the typical reporter who likes to leave out important facts in order to make their case? A case usually based on ideology rather then fact?
"childbirth is a bit more then an emergency room visit. are you the typical reporter who likes to leave out important facts in order to make their case? A case usually based on ideology rather then fact?
Hope not but it sure looks like it."
Really? Does it look that way here, on a forum where I can offer my own opinions freely just the way you can? Or does it look that way on my newspaper? If it is on my newspaper, please do indicate where.
When you use phrases like "typical reporter" you give the impression that you are prone to generalizations...a flaw common among bigots. "typical redneck", "typical Mexican", "typical mother-in-law"...etc...etc...

it's the flags isn't it? the typical left wing reporter that blames America for every problem and likes to point at the "typical" American as a bigot...
notice that you don't really address the issue in question (illegals crossing the border to have their children for free and reporters that make their case on ideology rather then fact)...what you are concerned with is yourself and who you can impress here in the forum
few here are impressed with much so you can relax

the point I wanted to make was that not matter where you come from or which country you choose to became part of, you must do it and assume all responsibilities and specially in country like this (USA) history tells you what happen, why it happen and one thing most people forget is that it will continue to happen just because the nature of it, this is a country based in immigrants and it will always be, otherwise start showing your cheeroke credentials at the door!!
And Tyler I thing we are playing nice!!
Castaway, You are obviously hard of hearing, so I will make it easier for you:
1. Your little graphics don't affect me in the least, but your snideness is tedious. (yawn)
2. I never said the typical American is bigoted. In fact, no one on this thread has said so. You are a baiter. The problem is, you aren't a very good one.
3. Why is the issue "illegals crossing the border to have their children for free and reporters that make their case on ideology rather then fact"? Because you say so? haha. ok, I'll play:
- I have already said in a previous post that as far as I am concerned if the majority of Americans don't want illegal immigrants there, the onus is on them to keep them out. If they get in, they should have basic healthcare, education, and humane treatment. I cannot say it any clearer without drawing you some stick figures.
- "reporters that make their case on ideology rather then fact" This one is at least more closely related to the actual topic of the thread. You better keep the day job, Casty...you suck as a literary critic. Just because I have a newspaper, that doesn't mean that I can't come to a public forum and HAVE AN OPINION. Now, if you want to say that my newspaper is biased, please cite where.
-"what you are concerned with is yourself and who you can impress here in the forum" Ah, now you are the insight into my head and motives? Has it occured to you that this superiority complex of yours is precisely what many people might attribute to...not "typical Americans", but rather "ugly Americans"?
If I were so concerned with myself, I would hold my opinions and come in here kissing ass in the hopes that everyone would buy their insurance from me and love me so much that they go over and read my newspaper. I've managed to do alright for myself so far without "trying to see who I could impress"...and I am too old to start caring now about such stuff.
"few here are impressed with much so you can relax" So now you know what impresses the others? Wow! If I had any sense at all I would be impressed by your powers of perception and insight (yawn, again).
you are very right Rose...I'm no genius...actually just a dumb high school dropout who's main break in life came by virtue of being lucky enough to be born and raised in America. (there goes that music again!)
one question about the statement that if America can't keep illegals out they must take care of them once they are in.
Apply this policy to an individual citizen...If it's then my responsibility to keep a lawless robber/trespasser out of my home then once in I should feed, clothe, care for them, and give them a Costco card? Don't twist this around that my meaning is that immigants are robbers. The only relationship here is that laws are being broken and you say well, too bad, they're your people now".
This defies logic to this dumb American taxpayer.
The many years we have spent traveling to many countries including Mexico has convinced me that as with Christians, people love to take swipes at Americans. Many Americans excuse it away due to the bad manners of a few or our so-called failed foreign policy.
In my view it boils down to some very basic human flaws that don't know color, race, or national origin...that would be hatred and envy.
All personal attacks aside I believe that it's next to impossible today for reporters to be without bias reflected in what and how they report. You've all been given the green light by the Lord of all printed words, The New York Times.
I believe that Az Miguel is either racist -That's 1- or has the inside track with hospitals-I have seen many hispanics in emergency rooms -Me to! - but never questioned them as to their legal status- Reminds me of the time a guy on our crew called La Migra on several hispanics on the crew that couldn't speak english- When immigration arrived, he happily pointed out the three in question. Every one that needs emergency treatment should be stabilized before we question the ability to pay, we do that much for the enemy in a war. -Whats your complaint? Everyone gets tirage and treated based on relevant emergency medical needs, regardless of their ability to pay :?: -
I have been fighting a bill for three months for an ER visit. Twenty eight hundred bucks for an EKG for my wife and three hours of being ignored. - And in the tirage process your ability to pay is also evaluated as to the amount of treatment you receive, your exorbitant amounts are based on your ability to pay them - My insurance refused to pay more than 12 hundred and they want me to pay the rest- Oh yeah, 800 bucks for meds-Three aspirin.

If you are a mexican seeking work in the states packed in a overfilled van that crashes(in a typical case) with no insurance or assets a medical evac helicopter ride after an accident on I-10 near the new mexico line is free.If you have half assed insurance that doesn't cover evacuation by air the cost is $24,000 dollars.Even good insurance sticks you with a big chunk of this bill.Much of this cost is to make up for all the free rides. We should bill all the hillbilly states like North Carolina that make a bundle off of Mexican labor.
America’s Joint Forces Command issued their annual “Joint Operating Environment” report, which projects future wars and other potential global threats. This year, the report pointed to two nations which may undergo a “rapid and sudden collapse.” One, unsurprisingly, was Pakistan: a near-bankrupt nation with spiraling inflation, a huge domestic insurgency problem and growing military tension with neighboring India. The other was Mexico.
Is Mexico really on the cusp of turning into a failed state? It seems hard to imagine but the report cautions that “the government, its politicians, police and judicial infrastructure are all under sustained assault and press by criminal gangs and drug cartels.”
Indeed, Mexican forces have been involved in violent clashes, largely linked to their war on drugs and the organized crime spawned by that war. The Mexican drug war has been escalating for years, backed heavily by the United States, and has turned into an outright shooting war between the military and the gangs. Still, it seems a stretch to put its problems on the same level as Pakistan’s.
An interesting aside to this report becoming public is that Mexican President Felipe Calderon has been visiting the United States this week, hoping to impress upon outgoing President Bush and incoming President-elect Obama the seriousness of the security situation in Mexico.
"you are very right Rose...I'm no genius...actually just a dumb high school dropout who's main break in life came by virtue of being lucky enough to be born and raised in America. (there goes that music again!)"
I appreciate the changed tone of this post and will respond in kind. Of all my certificates, I am proudest of my GED, because it was the one that took me the longes to earn. We aren't that different...you might be gifted musically, or with a green thumb. I have a way with words. It is not a big deal, but it comes in handy at times. Doesn't mean I'm smarter than you or anyone else.
"one question about the statement that if America can't keep illegals out they must take care of them once they are in. The comparison doesn't work (notice how I avoid letting you know how I never know if it's a metaphor or analogy) first of all because the illegal alien problem began after the inception in the 50s of the Bracero program, initiated by the U.S. government to bring enough workers from Mexico to work our fields. It created a monster.
If you invited all the lawless robbers into your home because you didn't want to take out your own trash, or pick up your own dog's poop, and then when you felt they were taking over, or that there were so many of them that you lost control...then it would be a problem somewhat of your own making. And while you would not be expected to give them a Costco card, at the very least you should not let them starve to death on your kitchen floor. Why? Because you are still the greatest country on earth. You can put a man on the moon, and so you should be able to keep them out of your house.
"Don't twist this around that my meaning is that immigants are robbers. The only relationship here is that laws are being broken and you say well, too bad, they're your people now"
No. I don't say that. I say...keep them out or catch and deport them. But while they are there they must be treated humanely. The healthcare, education, and yes...even driver's license (I am slipping that one in even though it wasn't previously mentioned) are all a matter of what to me makes sense for the rest of us.
"This defies logic to this dumb American taxpayer."
You aren't the only one. I truly appreciate the dialogue and hope we can learn a bit about each other's point of view.
"The many years we have spent traveling to many countries including Mexico has convinced me that as with Christians, people love to take swipes at Americans. Many Americans excuse it away due to the bad manners of a few or our so-called failed foreign policy."
So maybe you can be a bit less defensive and learn to accept that some of us who disagree with you are also good Americans (and/or Christians, for that matter)?
"In my view it boils down to some very basic human flaws that don't know color, race, or national origin...that would be hatred and envy."
I would ask that you not be so dismissive. Maybe...just maybe...their beef has some basis. Don't assume that it is all just hatred and envy. It is my experience that rarely is that the case.
"All personal attacks aside I believe that it's next to impossible today for reporters to be without bias reflected in what and how they report. You've all been given the green light by the Lord of all printed words, The New York Times"
I don't even know that I consider myself a reporter. I do consider myself a writer, though. The newspaper is an effort to bring information in English to people who weren't getting it anywhere else because it wasn't available. In all sincerity, as I said earlier. If you or anyone points out where my bias has affected my newspaper I more than welcome the specifics. Call me to task there...but don't accuse me of pandering to the masses. That I would never do.
I'm curious to know if you've visited the newspaper. If not...please consider this an engraved invitation. Your critique is of value to me, Castaway.
One last thing: I just listened to our president give his farewell speech. I was and am impressed. I assure you that just about the time you think you have me figured out, I might surprise you. May God bless our current president in his new life and our incoming president in the challenges that lay ahead. (cue music)

The other was Mexico.

the problems are serious...Obama met with Calderon recently and promised to, well, uh, follow through on what's been planned. It sure seems like for a guy (Obama) who found so much wrong with President Bush, he sure intends to "stay the course" alot...

And you found nothing wrong with the past administration and the Bush? Are you out of your mind or just :? I know you are joking, right. :o If you want to play that game on here you had better hold onto your hat Castaway because Oboma had only one vote. IF you cast a vote that would have put Palin in a position to become our president, never mind. :D
Kenny according to the asbestos removal guy who's shop is across the street from me all the following is true:
3 more days before we throw George Bush in a recycle bin, take all the guns, buy Korans for each public school child, release Mexican wolves and spotted owls on every gated whites only golf course and start seizing the F-250s and handing out bicycles! Hey the crazy granny in the Red dress at the McCain rally warned us. Obama is an Arab with no birth certificate and we can't trust him.
911 warning 911 warning 911 it's all Barney Frank and Clintons Fault Iraq is free..911
I know Jerry, just look at all the nasty stuff they have planned...
Dear MoveOn member,
Barack and Michelle Obama have a request for us: Spend this coming Monday-Martin Luther King Day-volunteering to serve the urgent needs in our communities.
In this economic crisis, food banks are struggling to keep up. Homeowners need help weatherizing to keep out the cold. Schools are crumbling.
Some folks have been hit harder by the recession than others, but we're all in it together. We've all got to roll up our sleeves and help each other out. And volunteering is always a great experience-in just a few hours, you can help make a huge difference in the lives of others.
Can you answer Obama's call to service this Monday? Click here to find out how you can help near Prescott:
On Tuesday, Barack will officially start the massive job of restoring our country. As president, he plans to expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps and to create new service organizations1, including:
a Classroom Corps to help underserved schools;
a Health Corps to serve in the nation's clinics and hospitals;
a Clean Energy Corps to achieve the goal of energy independence; and
a Veterans Corps to support the Americans who serve in harm's way.
But on Monday, Barack, Michelle, Sasha, and Malia will still be ordinary citizens, volunteering to help their new neighbors in Washington, D.C. Can you join them by volunteering near Prescott? Click here to sign up on Obama's website:
Many of us have the day off for Dr. King's birthday, so it's a perfect time to volunteer. And with millions of Americans energized about Obama's inauguration, it will be a great day to spend with neighbors!
Hope you can make it. And thanks for all you do.
-Noah, Karin, Matt, Ilyse and the rest of the team
P.S. If you're in D.C. on Monday, join others from around the country to assemble care packages for troops in Iraq at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (inside a heated tent):
The 3000 business tax credit for hiring and employee that the Anointed One promised at a zillion campaign speeches has already been dashed to the rocks. Knowing full well that there was no support in Congress for this tax incentive in part due to the difficulties of implementing and the dollars involved he promised it anyway.
Chuck Schumar laughed about it on his way out of the chamber. He said" I don't believe I know a single member that evr supported it.
That's it, thats all you have oh bitter one?
So tell me please, I've yet to meet anyone who would admit it in public . Are you one of the 26% who give Bush a positive approval rating? If you are, I'll ask you this right out. Are you out of your mind, a racist, or both?
You might think about getting a little closer to shore..

Kenny
We supported him after 911 when his approval rating was over 90's and we continue to support him, America, and Americans today. Even the ones that don't agree with us.
So there's your confession my friend.
Honestly Ken I thought you were not the kind of person who would personally attack with name calling simply because someone doesn't agree with a slobbering public love affair with an unqualified person voted into the oval office by a delirious public, ignorant of facts, eager to prove their acceptance of color, and willing to project their own goodness and desire for a better life into an undeserving, Chicago politician, guilty of every possible political manipulation and mis-association imaginable.
I have to admit that I'm disappointed in you Ken and it seems a waste of time to discuss the President or the President Elect or their policies, strengths, and shortfalls since you just want to start name calling.
We supported him after 911 when his approval rating was over 90's and we continue to support him, America, and Americans today. Even the ones that don't agree with us.
As patriotic as you are, Castaway, it would seem that our new President can also count on your support, even when you don't agree with him.
That's it, thats all you have oh bitter one?

It was a simple question based on the out of the blue remarks you made, one that you failed to answer I might add. You come on here spouting crap about our newly elected president and you are disappointed in me? Just answer the question, or shut up about it!
NO!, I did not support the war in Iraq, there may be a picture of me with sheep on another thread, but I'm certainly not one.
]I'm not a racist Ken so according to your wise assessment I must be insane.
I would have voted for Colin Powell, not because he's black nor in spite of it. I may have even voted for Condi as one of the smartest people I can think of, not because I need to prove to all of my friends how accepting I am of black skin and that I'm not racist.
Many voted for Obama just because he's black... period.
And yes Rose, I'll support Obama as President because we all need to succeed and we're all better off as a united front with our friends (including Mexico and Canada)...a fact that most Americans have forgotten for awhile. It's funny Rose how you like to sneer at patriotism. I'll tell you, there are alot worse things to believe in then freedom and democracy.
Yep...pretty disappointed Ken in your rudeness. I didn't expect it from you and it takes alot from the forum as I've always seen you as one of the most tolerant here.
I'm wrong a lot about people these days ...wrong about you Ken thinking you were tolerant and open minded and maybe wrong about Obama that he's selfish, opportunistic, and willing to roll over on any friend when the tide changes a bit.
change...believe in it because that's all there is at this point, blind faith.
Try to avoid having an orgasm during his 100,000,000.00 inauguration party while we are all out collecting cans of food for the needy.
You just can't help yourself, can you? You are the one that is rude castaway! You come on here sounding like a bad Fox news program, and then get idignant when you are called out on it.
I guess people aren't allowed to have different opinions here in this open forum or they are going to get called names, beat on, and shunned by the established "owners" of the space...like Ken?
"We supported him after 911 when his approval rating was over W's and we continue to support him, America, and Americans today. Even the ones that don't agree with us.
This implies that you are supportive of the new administration and the large majority of citizens who suppport his efforts?
"someone doesn't agree with a slobbering public love affair with an unqualified person voted into the oval office by a delirious public, ignorant of facts, eager to prove their acceptance of color, and willing to project their own goodness and desire for a better life into an undeserving, Chicago politician, guilty of every possible political manipulation and mis-association imaginable."
That certainly is supportive
Following your logic, since you are in the small minority of citizens who have this very special knowledge and think this way, you sound like a person who sees most of the rest of the people in the world as being stupid and far below your standing in life. This attitude can result from too much talk radio !!
You do come across very much as an elitist. It's more honest to come out and say it as a physician I met the other day did "Do you believe we voted a nigger into office"? Of course this poor fellow had a brain tumor and is a little nuts all the time.
Wow ,good you are so supportive! Many did support a highly qualified failed business man, wealthy elite non performing pilot, alcoholic, empty bag of skin manipulative liar, follower of the Nazi Gobbells "The bigger the lie, the bigger the effect" though ?? This guy Bush is just a toady of the corrupt, Nixon era liars and thieves, nothing more. They lined their pockets and can go away for a couple of terms now.

Hey Rosie, glad to see one of my puerto penasco neighbors find and participate in the forum. I sure like your online newspaper, I am definately going to list the link in my site.

Thank you, Ric! We will add a riciprocal link to your site as well. I love your pics.
It's funny Rose how you like to sneer at patriotism. I'll tell you, there are alot worse things to believe in then freedom and democracy.
I never sneer at patriotism. I sneer at self-righteousness. You are not equal to patriotism, even though you seem to think you are. Who are you to determine that the protester is less patriotic than the flag-waver? Are you insinuating that only those who believe as you do can therefore be considered to believe in freedom and democracy (even as we are exercising our freedom of speech and celebrating our democratic election of a new President?
You can cite this person and that person to try to make a point against Mr. Obama, but it remains a fact that an overwhelming number of our fellow Americans disagree with you. I find it heartening that many who voted for the other guy are now expressing optimism and hopefulness. You should do likewise, it would certainly seem a more gracious approach.
"maybe wrong about Obama that he's selfish, opportunistic, and willing to roll over on any friend when the tide changes a bit."Your patriotism is underwhelming, Dude.
"change...believe in it because that's all there is at this point, blind faith."To be outdone only by your cynicism and negativity.
Try to avoid having an orgasm during his 100,000,000.00 inauguration party while we are all out collecting cans of food for the needy.
Then of course there are the old standbys of condecention and sarcasm.
"......This guy Bush is just a toady of the corrupt, Nixon era liars and thieves, nothing more. They lined their pockets and can go away for a couple of terms now.
Feo, you hit it right on the nail's head, for years, let me think I guess since he got in office, his ways (Bush's) are no different than a government from a third world country, first elections robbed dispite of the publics decision for democracy, Judd, remember him? at that time the democrats showed their superiority by letting the guy go ahead and take office, first blow for many democrats and then the idiot goes to war based in his own agenda, another blow, then he steals the second elections, yet another blow to the american people, now look at the country in its worst financial times ever!!! (sorry the events mention might not be in cronological order), the other day in his farewell speech Bush had the guts to say that he got the country in a bad economy already, if having a 400 million surplus is bad economy (remember from Clinton's government, geeees!! probably more presidents should have affairs while in office) what do you call 1 trillion debt? after that I turn the TV off and in 3 days he will be OFF!!! about time!!!! IMHO. :eek3: :eek3:
(quote)probably more presidents should have affairs while in office)
Ya, GW's behavior is consistent with an impotent bully so maybe he could not have an affair and was mad about it and had to show his manhood by kicking sand in other people's faces???
In honor of the end of our first male cheerleader presidents disastrous 8 years Im going to put my flight suit on(Sportsmans Guide) and cut some brush at my fake ranch and ride my bike real fast like.

How cooool. You should run for president :ugeek: :ugeek:
the error here is not that Bush has been a politician like so many, but that Obama isn't one...many of you know damn well this election was all about race and you are not willing to admit it
I'll be under my bed as I'm sure there's more character/personal attacks coming...that's what people do when they feel that they can't win on facts

OOO(yawn)OOO
There's certainly is no doubt it was for you. You are about as clear as can be about what you are, and that's one fact right there
Don't forget that Martin Luther King day is tomorrow and don't miss the inauguration :sunny: on Tuesday castaway, that would be a real shame if you did.
It wasn't about race it was about Bush leaving the county in a big mess.Any Democrat would have won against any Republican. The reason Obama was the guy at the plate was he called bullshit on the Iraq war.
On more important stuff HOW ABOUT THOSE CARDINALS!!!!!!
"the error here is not that Bush has been a politician like so many, but that Obama isn't one...many of you know damn well this election was all about race and you are not willing to admit it"
This coming from the guy who hasn't called it accurately yet. Why was it about race? Because you deem it so? Because the Americans you claim so vehemently to support overrode your rhetoric and that of others of your ilk and elected a man who better reflected their principles? Are you too entrenched in your your ideology to turn up the volume on the television set, wave your flag, and celebrate the electoral process of our great country?
"I'll be under my bed as I'm sure there's more character/personal attacks coming...that's what people do when they feel that they can't win on facts"
The election was won on facts, ideals, history, and hope, not race. Remember that the people whose vote you discount because you say they voted by race would not have had a vote were they not full-fledged Americans...as you and I are. Don't be a coward and hide under your bed......come out and deal with the choice of the majority the way the rest of us have for the last eight years (especially those of us who sent our own children off to war).
Come out from under your bed, man...I've lived my nightmare and now my son is home safe. It's your turn to express pride in your country even though you don't agree with the policies...God knows the rest of us have done it for the last eight years. Wave those flags now, Castaway!
:usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:
Legalizing drugs would be better than sending more troops to Afghanistan and Mexico.
I think McCain is hunting down Osama (just south of the gates of hell)

calm down Rose...the bed comment is a joke and these are just words and opinions. By your responses you seem have my views all rapped up with somebody else or some stereotype that you've attached me to. As you well know, we are all complex and it's impossible to see through to someone very clearly based on a few words on a screen.
It's also a waste of time to list in painstaking my own life long credentials to prove to you that I'm not a bigot or a racist so I won't. You've made up your mind as many of the so called left wing liberals are some of the most narrow minded, closed minded people that you can meet
No big deal Rose but just to show that if you think my views about Bush and Obama are based on this 100% right wing conservative foundation, you would be wrong again. I've been a loony lefty like you going back to the 60's with Vietnam and the rest of the problems that were troubling our nation and the world in those days. We did the whole deal...marches, sit ins, even got the crap beat out of me and my teeth knocked out in an LAPD police riot. We were died in the wool Democrats supporting party line up through and including Clinton.
So much for your preaching and lecturing what your standards are. :-)))
Also, you keep bringing up the boys and yours over in Iraq...ours is coming home in March after his second tour and yes we're proud of him as well and relieved that so far he hasn't been hurt like so many others. So yes, that makes us proud that we could serve and this here U.S.A is a place worth serving.
So you see Rose, we may have more in common then you think and I still believe that Obama's marketing department has pulled off the biggest scam in history and yes fooled everybody!
Now Mrs. Obama wasn't proud of her country for her entire adult life until we the people proved our wisdom, sincerity, and potential by supporting her husband for President. Now that made me laugh my ass off and it still does! The things people can say and get away with it. If Cindy McCain had said that she would have been tarred, feathered, and run out on a rail!!!
I was in the minority politically in the 60's and I'm in the minority now by believing tha Bush fought the war on terror correctly. It doesn't bother me. As for you, go with the crowd if you want to and that suits you. As for me I'll keep questioning and calling bullshit when I see it, not when all of the lemmings do.
But I will agree with you and support this President as I said earlier. If he loses we all lose. Too bad the loony left couldn't see that as they all stood in chorus calling Bush names in front of the whole world to see.
Hail to the Chief and Hail to The Cardinals!!!
:usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:

As you well know, we are all complex and it's impossible to see through to someone very clearly based on a few words on a screen." You say that, yet from you've called me biased, left-wing loony and unpatriotic. You also accused me of pandering for approval. You seem incapable of (among other things) maintaining a conversation without resorting to your old standby: insults. When that fails, you play the victim and claim everyone is unfair to you.
"It's also a waste of time to list in painstaking my own life long credentials to prove to you that I'm not a bigot or a racist so I won't. You've made up your mind as many of the so called left wing liberals are some of the most narrow minded, closed minded people that you can meet" Add narrow minded to the list of things you have called me. You are judgemental, and that tells me that whatever assumptions I've formed about you are correct. I haven't accused you of bigotry. I accused you of being self-righteous and wrong. While I'm on the subject of your defects, let me say I find you unfunny and lacking in wit.
"No big deal Rose but just to show that if you think my views about Bush and Obama are based on this 100% right wing conservative foundation, you would be wrong again. I've been a loony lefty like you" There you go again. Let's add disrespectful and condescending to your name tag.
"going back to the 60's with Vietnam and the rest of the problems that were troubling our nation and the world in those days. We did the whole deal...marches, sit ins, even got the crap beat out of me and my teeth knocked out in an LAPD police riot. We were died in the wool Democrats supporting party line up through and including Clinton" Yeah, okay...now you assume I am a Democrat? Based on what? Based on my support of Obama? Republicans and Independents also helped put him in office, you know.
"So much for your preaching and lecturing what your standards are. :-)))" You are also dismissive and snide. Go back over the history of posts and maybe then you'll realize (although I doubt you possess the insight) that the topic was my newspaper and you were off and running about my lack of objectivity and a bunch of generalizations. I should've just ignored you on GP.
"So you see Rose, we may have more in common then you think" Not unless I play dumb...
"and I still believe that Obama's marketing department has pulled off the biggest scam in history and yes fooled everybody!"Oy vey! Somebody please hold me back...
"Now Mrs. Obama wasn't proud of her country for her entire adult life until we the people proved our wisdom, sincerity, and potential by supporting her husband for President. Now that made me laugh my ass off and it still does! The things people can say and get away with it. If Cindy McCain had said that she would have been tarred, feathered, and run out on a rail!!!" That is not what she said, but why should you get that right and spoil your record?
"I was in the minority politically in the 60's and I'm in the minority now by believing tha Bush fought the war on terror correctly. It doesn't bother me. As for you, go with the crowd if you want to and that suits you. As for me I'll keep questioning and calling bullshit when I see it, not when all of the lemmings do." "But I will agree with you and support this President as I said earlier. If he loses we all lose. Too bad the loony left couldn't see that as they all stood in chorus calling Bush names in front of the whole world to see." With support like yours, who needs enemies?
I think almost everything you said is right Rose...now will you un-clamp your jaws from my jugular? I,m not trying to be anything other then what is Rose. The point is that we can't just put people in boxes, label it, and think we know. But then I know you know that...maybe.
if I didn't know better I'd think you were a reporter and a Democrat...
btw if Mrs. Obama had said that would it have been wrong? She did say it. You've been watching The View too long Rosie!
I know you will love this castaway, enjoy...My niece who is a state Rep in Idaho sent me what I'm going to post below. She's a product of the counter culture and spent time as a child living in a teepee in the national forest's up in Oregon and later in Joshia tree National forest in California where her brother Josh was born. Her name is Sunny, :sunny: and she's stayed true and active for a better America and world.
IMAGINE
The year is 2016. You glance at the television one morning and see President Obama having another of his many press conferences. He has now been in office for almost 8 years. It has not been perfect, but things are much better than when he took office in January of 2009.
You notice that his hair has whitened and he still has that winning smile and that take charge/positive energy that he had when he was campaigning back in 2008.
You remember how concerned you were about whether or not he would win in 2008 and you feel deeply contented that he has been safely in office for such a long time. He and Congress have done much to address global warming, healthcare, development of alternative energy sources and a variety of other important matters to the country and the planet.
You feel deep gratitude for the past eight years and how things have unfolded.
See it...Feel it...breathe it...Pass it on. Let us...remember... all of the wonderful reasons we appreciate this reality.
THE CHALLENGE:
Take 30 seconds right now. Close your eyes and imagine exactly what our country will feel like.
Imagine how deeply gratifying it will feel.
Imagine whatever it is in that future that you desire.
Imagine successful diplomacy and world peace.
Imagine prosperity designed for all by their own curiosity, their creativity and the easy availability of all the tools necessary.
Imagine the citizen groups, progressive populism, social justice, and the grassroots finding their voice.
Imagine a world-wide not-for-profit health system that works beautifully around the globe.
Imagine alternative energy systems developed and deployed everywhere.
Imagine the earth being healed and revitalized, cherished and respected.
Imagine being very proud of your country and its leaders.
Imagine whatever it is that draws you to support change now.
Imagine the details of what your life looks like, and more.
Just 30 seconds. Do it several times a day. We can shift and change the vibration of this country with positive visions just like this.
BIGFISH! AKA Kenny
if I didn't know better I'd think you were a reporter and a Democrat...
btw if Mrs. Obama had said that would it have been wrong? She did say it. You've been watching The View too long Rosie!
I thought your prior unfunniness was pitiful...but these attempts at backhanded humor are enough to make people cringe. Please stop it. No, I don't watch The View. I have 2 full-time businesses and might I add that lately you have kept me kinda busy? In addition, I do have to go out to events so I have something to write about. Maybe you are watching too much Bill O'Reilly?
Now I am starting to suspect you have no one else to play with, but please take up with someone else for awhile...I have a deadline. If you haven't self-destructed by then, I will get back to you someday when I have time to kill.
Rosie, I just want to say that your paper if great and has more information that other publications that have been around for a long time.
Now lets go back to the bashing party!!!!   :eek3:
I enjoy doing it and am glad you like it, Inka. But every Monday I go nuts for a couple of days while I meet the deadline. Last week I learned all I ever wanted to know about tequila. With Mexican elections coming up, I will be writing a lot about the campaigns for RP mayor and Sonora governor. Stay tuned...
Hey Rosie, I sure would like to see you go after the Mexican drug cartels in your paper like you are going after conservatives here. Come on, you seem to be pretty fearless with the people you disagree with on this fourm. Lets see your huevos chica! I"m sure their response would be as gentlemanly as Castaways.

Hahah...cute. I don't have anything against conservatives at all, in fact I tend to be kind of fiscally conservative and socially more liberal. I am an Independent and have had my share of arguments with Democrats. It just depends upon who has tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to dance, and in this case it was Castaway.
If you've read the paper, you'll note that I do publish news about cartel activity. I'm writing tomorrow's issue now and there is some stuff in there. What you may not realize is that the backlash may not be from the cartels, but from realtors in town who are afraid talking about this side of Mexico will negatively impact their business.
By the way, I don't know that Casty was all that gentlemanly. Look, my knees don't buckle easily. I'm currently pursuing a high-profile lawsuit against someone people might say is politically connected and somewhat powerful, former mayor of Penasco, Ramon Martinez and his mealy-mouthed brother Martin Martinez, owners of Terranova Inversiones.
Not only won't I quit, I intend to win back the money stolen from me. I've given interviews on tv and radio and stared them down in court...
