Thats the crater named ELEGANTE, the last time I went in Roberto the park greeter was from Europe, here to study. They do a quick inventory of what you are taking into the park and then check to see if you are bringing basically the same stuff out with you for litter control.
It's a great side trip that many miss. My son and girlfriend camped out there last year, had a great time till it got hot in the day !! I have not been to the new greeting center yet. There is a large bat cave on the west side I would lilke to visit also.

The ground is black, with lava rocks, the last time I went it had rained everything was green and with the black ground it was really pretty.
