Any chance the weather will have cooled down by Labor Day. I want to go but the humitity kills me.

Rick
Cholla Bay
fasteddy
I'm hoping to go. I can sit in my house up here or be in the pool down there Hmm.....
Pool sounds good.
Mexico Joe
HUMIDAD UP HOES DOWN! sounds like ill be staying in phx this year...
nosirrah
my companion and I will be coming down Thursday or Friday and staying until Tuesday. Finally 5 wonderful days in RP !
Roberto
Don't know if it will continue, but it has definately been not so scorching hot in the daytime and cooler at night. Middle 70's Sunday night. The hoes are lonely Joe !!!
MIRAMAR
The hottest I have ever been was in Kino Bay for Labor Day probably 1995 - the water temperature must have been at least 95 degrees, and the outside temperature hotter than that w/ humidity, so I generally stay away from Mexico for Labor Day. But I'm looking at the 10 day weather report for Tucson, and it's showing it cooling down the Friday of Labor Day weekend by 10 degrees during the day, and 6 at night (Penasco shows less cooling, but it's going in the right direction). I agree w/ Roberto that if it cools down in the 70's at night, that's tolerable. Who knows how accurate it is 10 days out, but Labor Day weekend in Penasco is looking better and better!

Joe,
Bruce and his dad will be down Friday - Sunday to fix the awning....I'm being a wussy and staying home. This is a trip that is specifically to fix the darn thing and I wouldn't be much help....I'd spend more time bitching and whining about the humidity (heat I can handle, humidity...not so much) than I would anything else. And October 8th will be here before I know it.... So, stop by and say hi to the guys!!!!
MIRAMAR
OK Roberto, how bad is it down there? We're looking at the weather reports which have changed from last week, and thinking of going down just 1 or 2 nights.
brokenwave
The sweat beads on my head started to form (it's 76 in my house in PHX) just thinking about going down for the weekend.
I just looked at Casa Weez's weather site on Weather Underground and it's 88 degrees with 80% humidity at 8:20 AM. UUGGH!
October 8th sounds way cooler.
Roberto
Hot and humid sorry to report. 87 degrees, 88% humidity this AM in the jardin. How long will it take to drive to Alaska ??
Mexico Joe
Well... unexpectedly I guess Ill be in town now! Joe Knows Hoes!
Roberto
Gotta say the humidity dropped by 22% by 11 AM, so maybe it blew over.
GV Jack
I'm sitting at the beach and it is quite warmish. This morning was really wet.
The wind is sort of off shore and it has helped the humiditty.

Sorry to leave tomorrow. Trip report later. It has been very interesting. A hint....the Gendarms.

Thanks Roberto. It wasn't easy but it works like a charm.
The test will be next visit, November time frame when I have to recharge the account.

By the way, had a great breakfast and Bloody Narys at Manny's this morning.

I'm going the following weekend, the 9th-12th, hoping some miracle cooling spell will fall over the area. Gotten lucky before!

BTW, GV Jack, what were you using for internet? One of those prepaid cards?
MIRAMAR
GringaZona, I think we're also hoping it cools down the following weekend and going then. A friend just returned and said it was hot and humid, and after looking at Casa Weez's site, it doesn't look like it's cooling down at night, and the heat index column scares me!

Telcel Amigo 3G broadband stick. Got it at the big Telcel store across from Circle K. Long wait, but it works real well.

I will be making a post about this trip later, but that's where I got it. I got the expensive stick for around $50.00 which includes 30 days at 3 Gig max.

I'm down in Las Conchas, section five and get two to three bars.
InkaRoads
although it is Thursday I took my first group down to RP for Labor Day but I must say I was surprise to see the amount of traffic going south, early in the am and then in my way back to Tucson around 4 pm the amount of traffic almost double, if it continues like this tomorrow it could be a very good weekend for RP!!!! Lets hope so!!!!!!

Yup, that's the one I researched. Was going to do the local Sat/Net guy the last time I stayed in Las Conchas (where he just charges you for the temporary password to log onto his wifi broadcast) but for some reason the signal wasn't showing up very well inside the house we stayed at. Lately we've just stayed at places in Mirador that already have wifi out to the patios and my cell phone can pick up wifi at most of the restaurants and bars, so it hasn't been as much of an issue. For those who are interested in that other option I mentioned (he charges $45 a month, used to have weekly rates but not posted anymore), the link and coverage map is here: http://www.satnetpenasco.com/network.html

I can't figure out right now how to find its exactly location--or maybe he hid it since--but I recall the Casa Weez station being located past Las Conchas, going towards Mayan Palace, and it's very close to the shore. That's why his readings always come in a little cooler than the airport listing, but the humidity is always way higher. As long as there's a good breeze with the occasional gusts (especially with choppy water), I can even handle 105 with high humidity, but if that water is glass...Yikes! The fisherman on here subscribe to a more technical weather service and it is very accurate several days in advance, as far as sea conditions go. If it's bad (and/or dangerous) for them, it'll be good for us beach bums!
GringoZona
Oh for Chrissake, both of those things I just posted were related. The Casa Weez site is in Playa Encanto, past Mayan Palace, and the website they list as their own is the same as the Sat/Net internet provider link I posted! The weather station coordinates are listed in the bottom right hand corner, with a map, at http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=ISONORAP1 . Need to go back to bed!
GringoZona
One more...this is a handy little Casa Weez weather rapid-fire blast that shows exact current conditions in an easy-to-read format for quick viewing. I'm now obsessed with watching that wind needle go up and down by the minute! http://www.wunderground.com/swf/Rapid_Fire.swf?units=english&station=ISONORAP1
MIRAMAR

Me too!! I think it's interesting if the wind is from the south (water temp), the temp doesn't go down at night, but if it's from the north, it cools down some. I also like comparing this year's temps w/ prior years. That site is usually the first thing I look at in the a.m.

Also, just fyi, Encanto is not past the Mayan, the Mayan is further east.
GV Jack
Gringo...Here in Los Conchas Section the Sat/Net signal does not show up. I spoke to them and they don't have plans to upgrade. Hence the steek.
GV Jack
Opps Section 5.

Anyone know if the Telcel Amigo 3G broadband stick would work in Playa Encanto's west end?
InkaRoads
I have ATT/Telcel cell and it works great all the way to Mayan palace, I will think that the internet stick will work too since they run in the same wavelength or whatever they call it now a days!!

The Mexican customs people were having a field day around noon today...had 6 vehicles being inspected...almost couldn't get around them when I got the green light. This was causing a backup on the US side....

Dave Benard that owned Sat/Net passed away a couple of months ago. It is now run by Bruce Lara. Same email and web site for info. Playa Encanto has 3 or so dishes out there. It requires a roof top box to get access. The system is tied to TelMex to get Broadband WiFi access. The reason there is no pay as you go plan is he most likely has to pay a fixed amount every month for service. The other service out there is BeachComm LLC and is satellite based like ones used in RV parks. You have the option of a pay as you go plan on it. They also have dishes located out there for access. You can hook into the system wireless or have a roof top box mounted. More info is listed on my web site for Playa Encanto listed below.

So sorry to hear about Dave. What a great guy and one of those people who truly helped Penasco grow, a pioneer ahead of his time. While it's nice to talk about "unleashing" oneself from your daily grind, for many that is/was not an option due to work demands... And for many years his was the only route for us part-timers, years before there was such a thing as portable internet connections. Someone should really write up a tribute to the guy.

is the duty-free place at the border still open? i guess if they bought 'em in sonoyta they're kinda' screwed, huh?

Zona, he was sick for some time and he seemed to get worse after his mom passed away sometime ago IMO. His last 2 months were spent in a hospital here in the US. I could not find out where he was at here in the US. I became good friends with Dave over time. This is part of an email Bruce sent out,

There will be two ceremonies for those who can attend you are more thank welcome to join. There will be one ceremony takes place in Phoenix in November where David's surviving family member's will put part of his ashes to rest next to his late mother. And the other ceremony will take place here in Rocky Point, not sure of the date as of the moment, where we, his Penasco family will set the reaming ashes out to sea on a scale model of a shrimp boat that we had handmade for him......

Anyone have a border report for the return trip back to the USA yestreday. We hit the border at approx. 9:30 AM and had about 4 cars ahead in all 5 lanes being open. Wasn't too bad at all. Just wondering if anyone hit it later in the day and what the wait time was. Maybe we didn't have to leave so early????

I came across on Tuesday....hit the border about 2pm....one lane open...one car in front of me...the agent took my passport, scanned it, didn't say a word, handed it back to me...and that was that.....not one question!!! Thru in about 2 minutes!!! (He was busy chatting with the good looking, and usually friendly, female agent at the time....)
