OK Kenny here you go. The town has been very busy for the last few weekends so I am delayed in updates. here are a few pics of the construction of the track. We are 1 month and a week away from the first race and things are going well. The d-8 tractor is pushing the bank down into a seating area. Look at the views for this track, I think it will be one of the prettiest when it is finished but that is a personal opinion. Wow looks like I'm going to be eating Crow (tastes like Chicken) i would have bet a grand you couldn't get enough of the drivers and crews across the border to have a race being as as most of them suffer from Fox news Poisoning.
Kenny
I'm going to post this thread on Robbie's http://abcteam.websitetoolbox.com/ Message board, and lets see what some of the people in the AZ racing community think about it. I spent 2 day's at the track in Tucson this weekend, and I've got to tell ya Russ, this seems to be a better kept secret than where Kadafi's hiding out at. Again, just give us a name of one or two sprint car drivers/teams that will be there, or a sanctioning body that's going to run the show. OK, try this. Any name from any of the types of cars you say will be there would be a start.

So much for the poster with the 45X winged car on it... Oh well, I know those NMMRA guy's are always looking for a place to race, and the 45X doe's take the wing off to run with them; but it's still not on anyone's schedule. http://www.nmmra.com/index.php
shilo
Kenny, Sprint car #97 will be there, driver tba.
Kenny
Maybe Leland will come out of retirement and drive it, he has a place just around the corner. Would that be a 360, 410, or open comp engine? Who owns it, and who drove it last, or is that TBA as well?:notme:

Everything smells fishy in Cholla this time of year Kenny.....theres a bit of heat and a ton of clam divers......lol the fact is though its all good!

Kenny, it is a 360 we won the last wing show at canyon.

By the way, if you take something that I've posted on another forum and bring it over here, no one, and apparently even you is going to know what it's all about Russ, but maybe if you said where it came from it would help, or not..

Kenny, it is a 360 we won the last wing show at canyon.
That might explain why I don't know the car.:p Would that be the car that won with Pelkey and was disqualified, or the one RJ was driving? Or was that even the last winged race there?
So, are you going to take the barn door off the top of it just for this race in Mexico, or have they seen the light, so to speak.

On a serious note, what's the payout? I don't know off any team, especialy a winged car, that would haul there stuff down to Mexico for a non wing race unless they knew what the payout was, or they were getting show up money. What one of the two is it?

Can someone clear up if this October race is a wing or non-wing show? The first flyer had pics of winged sprints and the latest one shows non-wing sprints. With it being only a month away, details are sure missing. Who is sanctioning it? What rules will they have in place? Payout thru 10th place would be nice to know since they are saying 80 cars of one type or another are committed to being there. There is a non-wing race scheduled for that weekend at the new ET Motorpark. I know several Az teams will be running there.
shilo
Kenny, it is the car R.J. drove, i run it with out a wing all the time.
azchick, it will be a non wing show, like the race at e.t. (open comp)
according to promoter (bob livingston) it will pay 3000.00 to win and
300.00 to start.

Did you ever take the wing off and run at Arizona Speedway? I was at all three, but my memory is not as good as it once was.:think:OK, I have it now, and now I think I know who's posting..Me bad.

The flyer says $2000 to win and doesn't say how much to start.
Kenny
I did find out that there is no entry fee, for all divisions, just a $30 "pit fee"
Roberto
Hey Russ, got the information below from a Coldwell mass mailing. Did you write it? Lots of new details in it that I have not seen here, maybe I missed them. Are they accurate? 4 Divisions and 80 cars, wow. Also saw that you are selling advertising! With the thousands of people expected you might get some good local action. What are you selling and what are the rates?

From Coldwell Banker mass e-mailing:
As if there isn't already enough to do here in October, the good folks at Thunder Racing have added a sprint car race to the agenda. This will be the first of many races and events to be sponsored by Thunder Racing and the Sonoran Resorts. Details are still coming in but the race will be held just outside The Reef RV park at Sandy Beach. It is on the ocean side of the road to Cholla Bay. You can't miss the big hole in the ground that is being transformed into a 1/3 mile banked dirt track. I passed by there a few days ago and they seem to be making some good progress.

This first event is being called the Fall Classic and there will be 4 divisions involved in the event, Sprint Cars, USRA Modifieds, Mini Sprints and Dwarf Cars. They anticipate close to 80 cars to participate in the event.

Tickets cost $15.00 (or 150 mx pesos) and kids under 10 are free. Food and beverages will be available at the track. Passes for the pit area will also be available as well as VIP Seating with private food and drink vendors for you high rollers. Check out their Facebook page for more information and details as they emerge.

...."There are advertising opportunities to highlight your business to the thousands who are coming to this event. Space is limited; to find out more contact Russ Black at Penasco Recreation. Local call: 638-113-4591

there are a lot of businesses in RP that still has that exchange rate 10 to 1 and that is why I always say when in Rome do like the Romans and when in Mexico do like the Mexicans use pesos, it is just as easy!!!
Kenny
I'll be heading to Canyon Speedway http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/ for the ASCA non wing race Saturday Russ, and I'm wondering that with just a few shorts weeks remaining before the opening of Thunder On The Beach why you don't have the name of at least one sprint car team, or driver to release to the public. Not only will the ASCA regulars be at the show Saturday, but a lot of the teams that run the open comp show at the new Arizona Speedway at ET Motorsports Park http://www.abcmotorsports.com/wwocpressreleae9-7-11.htm will be there as well... You might take notice that the Arizona Speedway has a show scheduled for the 15th of next month, and I guarantee you that when I'm in the pits Saturday I'll find teams that not only supported their open comp race in the past, but will again on the 15th. The big question is, will there be any teams or drivers there who will be supporting Bob's effort?... Really, is that to much to ask?

Now as far as the track is concerned; the fact that there has been no update on it's progress tells me it's either not going well, or someone's not doing their job.
rockyptjoe
Kenny, not pro or con on this discussion....although it would be nice to see the racing come to Penasco....but I think Russ has been out of town (out of the country too...) since last weekend....(he wasn't on the Ramblings show with Rosy)....

Yeah, Russ is celebrating his anniversary, can't quite remember which country he said he takes his wife every year, but it sure as hell wasn't Mexico!

I've encouraged people from the beginning, and from both forums to check out what's going on with the other to see what's happening with this deal. So to be honest, I have no idea what you might be sorry about Joe.

I encourage anyone who would like to share their opinions about the safety of PP, or there thoughts about the upcoming race to do so with my friends over on Robbie's forum. I know we might not all agree completly on the subject, but I can't think of a better group of people to share there knowlege about Rocky Point with the racing community than the folks we have right here... http://abcteam.websitetoolbox.com/

Jerry, we do not have a feud. Happy has a problem. Happy or Jack as he is known has threatened me, my wife and my son with physical harm and I do not take that very well. I have never met him and I dont know why he is so angry with me (us) I do not know what his deal is, I do not know who he is but I do not care for his type. There is a reason he has been banned from here and virtually every other forum he appears on the Internet. That would be that he makes a total ass of himself and spews hate and discontent at other forum members. He's currently waging a hate mail campaign against me with his typical bullcrap to any of you that will actually listen. Do yourself a favor and block his email address as I did; you'll be a lot happier for it in the long run. As for me personally? Sticks and stones and name calling from a troll don't bother me. I honestly feel sorry that any person can be that sad and angry. It's a shame he's not getting the help he needs.

I had an idea pop into my head today...Has anyone considered using the new track or modifying it for RZR or ATV type racing? We have thought about racing our RZR's just for fun and there isn't nearly as much cost involved there as with say a Sprint car team. I see the Dwarf cars are listed. They put on a good show. What about bombers? They are pretty fun to watch as well.
AZ ROB
Azchick I was in racing for many years and most of the bomber drivers that I talk to as well as Superstock drivers A) dont have the money B)don't have a trailer that will even go that far C) dont have a truck to tow a trailer and car that far.. This race will be an expensive endeavor for any team who wants to come down. I had a mod lite lined up for the race but they aren't running them but running dwarfs instead.
mexicoruss
AZCHICK, The track is a permanent fixture, as permanent as a dirt track can be. The track will be available for other events outside of what Bob L the owner has lined up. So the idea of having RZR events is valid and something that we have talked about. Anything that will draw the crowd is good for the track. Post your ideas and lets get something worked out.

RZR, Rhinos and other UTV's have been racing offroad for years. In both long course and short course offroad racing. The Febuary race scheduled at Thunder is a short course offroad race. They have serveral classes for UTV, from stock to PRO Modified.

I for one, hope there are adequate saftey measures, inspection of vehicles, and medical on site. We don't need another black eye from needless deaths. The track owner is going to want a return on investment but I hope that does not mean opening the track to a bunch of intoxicated ATV drivers. Is there a regulating agency for this stuff here in Mexico.

Roberto, I am not the owner of Thunder Raceway but I have this to say about your question. One race does not a race track make. Bob is installing miles of fencing and US safety (self edit) standards are in place. The racers that are coming from the States are professionals and want to do things the right way. Bob the owner and beneficiary of a good race wants to make sure that the thousands of dollars being invested in this facility are not wasted because of a needless death or even injury due to lack of oversight! I appreciate your conscience in this matter. Buy your ticket, come to the race, and enjoy yourself in a beautiful surrounding and the excitement of fast cars going in circles. The rest is under control.

The hole for the marina has been there for years and has never had sand dunes in it so why should it change now? The reef rv park protects it from the sea side and the big sand dunes that run down away from it to the desert normally dont move toward the sea, it is fairly protected.

And Joe not every street is covered in sand dunes in Jan and Feb, mine gets smoother when the wind blows so its not all bad..........

Good luck to all the teams going to the race.

We have, offroad desert racers, having been racing in Mexico for years. The biggest shock US sprint car teams will get is the border BS you have to go thru. The worst thing is the equipment manifest required for large haulers...ie Semi's and large toters. They are required to have a complete inventory of everything being carried across the border...and account for everything when returning to the US.

Take my advice...leave your semi's at home and just use flat trailers or small enclosed trailers. Its not worth the hassle.
Landshark
Very cool to see this race track becoming a reality. Too many times circle tracks are abandoned or bulldozed, signaling the end of an era. Dirt track racing is an American tradition that needs public support so it does not go the way of the drive-in theater. A big thanks to Bob Livingston and crew for having the cojones to build this track in the middle of our tough economic times, and in Rocky Point, Mexico...who would have ever thought it possible!

The manifest thing is very general in nature. I agree thought that I would travel light as possible but should not be a problem bringing your big rig with cars and tools as it has all been spelled out on this end. The border patrol in Mexico has been working very closely with Bob and the crew already here to make all of this very seamless. I will post the outcome of tomorrows meeting regarding fuel and other areas of concern

The radio ads for Thunder on the beach start Saturday the first of October. They will run in English and Spanish and they sound good. You guys have to listen in during Rocky Point Ramblings and try to figure out who voiced the spot for them in English. Rosie you cant play cause you know who it is already.

This brings a chuckle to me....remember all the questions I kept asking about fuel???....and the responses that I got that fuel would be available from a distributor? I got the same info when I spoke to Bob Livingston...that he had a distributor lined up to bring in fuel! I can understand that there would be a problem with determining how much fuel to bring in...depending on the type of vehicles, and how many actually entered!

Now the letter is indicating that the racers would be permitted to bring in 55 gallons per race vehicle. I really hope that happens...but as always with the Mexican customs people, I am skeptical. I'll believe it when I see it!!!

Dude you have got to relax. The beautiful thing that the drivers get to bring their own fuel is awesome. If that didnt come into play he had plan B and plan C ready to go but they were mush more expensive options so he worked very hard with officials and they came to an agreement. Never give up and always be thankful for favors large and small.

Saw this on the San Carlos Forum:
VEHICLE IMPORTATION UPDATES, from Adolfo Salido, Sonora Tourism, 09/09/2011

IF YOU ARE DRIVING A MOTORHOME AND TOWING A SMALL CAR OR PICK UP WITH IT, THIS IS THE WAY IT WORKS:

• THE MOTORHOME GETS AN ALL MEXICO PERMIT FOR TEN YEARS WITH A COST OF $49.95 USD. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY ADDITIONAL DEPOSIT WITH IT.

• THE VEHICLE BEING TOWED -- AS LONG IT STAYS IN THE ONLY SONORA AREA -- DOES NOT NEED A PERMIT TO COME INTO MEXICO, UNLESS IT GOES BEYOND KILOMETER 98 SOUTH OF EMPALME.

• THE SAME THING HAPPENS WITH A HOUSETRAILER THAT IS BEING TOWED (HITCH OR FIFTH WHEEL SYSTEM ). THE HOUSETRAILER GETS AN ALL MEXICO TEN-YEAR PERMIT for $49.95, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL DEPOSIT, AND THE TOWING VEHICLE DOES NOT NEED A PERMIT UNLESS IT GOES BEYOND KILOMETER 98 SOUTH OF EMPALME.

WHEN YOU BRING MOTORCYCLES, JET SKI, OR A SMALL TRAILER FOR CARRYING THINGS, YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A PERMIT, UP TO SIX MONTHS, FOR BOTH THE TOWED ITEM(S) AND THE TOWING VEHICLE.

VERY UNOFFICIALLY LET ME COMMENT:
I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT SOME PEOPLE 'FORGET' THAT THE MOTORCYCLES, JET SKIS, AND TRAILER FOR LOADING STUFF WERE ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN INTO MEXICO AND THEN LEAVE THEM IN MEXICO AND LET OTHER PEOPLE BUY, USE, OR KEEP THEM. TIS IS NOT PERMISSABLE!

Russ...this has nothing to do with "relaxing".....it has to do with BS thrown around by "promoters"......and not follwing thru with promises.....and I'm not talking about Bob Livingston.....unless this event falls flat on it's face!!!

I've been trying to convince old jetski racing friends of mine to come down to Penasco to start racing AGAIN....there were races several years ago for 2-3 years. As I've stated MANY times on here...a HUGE issue was fuel....either trying to bring it across or it's availability in Penasco (no 109+ octane in town). So, forgive me if I keep harping on the same subject....if this event comes off successfully, with no fuel hassles at the border....GREAT! If not....we're back to the same BS!!! So please stop poo-pooing my concerns! All it will take is one driver getting hassled and not being able to bring fuel in....and you will have a pile of posts on forums which will kill future races.

BTW...I really do hope it comes off successfully!
Kenny
As far as I know the Sprint cars teams in AZ are not concerned about it Joe, and never have been. You must have noticed that on the ABC forum for the most part it was all just ignored, though it was looked at, and a few wished Bob good luck... The weekend after this, there is one of the biggest races of the year, a two day show http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/?p=663 for both the winged and non winged cars at Canyon, and their not going to be flying off into the great unknown the weekend before. Also this weekend Robbie Allen and the teams that have been running open com will be here http://www.abcmotorsports.com/wwocpressreleae9-7-11.htm and so will I... I suggest to anyone who was looking forward to a Sprint Car race to head out there as well.
If I was down there the best I would hope for was some kind of exhibition type deal as far as the Sprints go. That is if there's even a surface to run on..??? Bob may have been able to talk $$ to a few teams, and talked them into coming down, but I've not been able to confirm that the post on here about the 97 car was even authentic, and I'd guess that the reason that Russ has not posted any news about who's going to show, is because he has none!
Terry you've had years of experience with the sprint car community, so you must know that with the way this economy is and with the $$ that it takes to field a sprinter, and with our car counts down, the timing of this deal couldn't have been worse even if Bob tried!
Truth is their is a lot of flag waving about helping out our new track, and how are own bad economy and racing community needs our support here, and not in Mexico... You can hardly blame them.

Stop that red highlighting crap Joe, you're not on the east coast!! We can hear just fine!!

As far as I know the Sprint cars teams in AZ are not concerned about it Joe, and never have been. Russ is just a guy trying to promote Peñasco. That said I have gone in deep with this event because I believe in it. Kenny it may not be a purist event in the eyes of Sprinters (or whatever they call themselves) but it will be a show! We have had cars on the track already (yes Joe they brought their own fuel in) and they love the track. So the local fans from Tijuana to Caborca , Sonoyta to Mexicali will get a great show, the likes they have never seen. For all the poo pooers out there I say "whatever" sit on your couch (behind your keyboard of course) and do nothing while the world moves around you. This is going to be a big event. If I was a driver or a team owner and I wanted to do good business in a bad economy I would be here with all 4 on the ground. We have excellent support cash wise and donation wise ! Joe..... you want to do a motor event here? Contact me I will hook you up!
Kenny
With the "show" just day's away, not posting anything at all on this forum for a week except a letter from Bob, and some banter with Joe, is not exactly my idea of promoting Russ.
What kind of cars were on the track, and why haven't you posted any pictures? How many of the eighty cars that you guy's have said would be there have committed to come, and what divisions? I guess it's perfectly acceptable to just make things up. First it's winged sprinters on your posters, then non wing, and now it's "or whatever they call themselves".

As far as sitting on my couch Russ old boy, this is my itinerary for this month and part the next.
15th http://www.abcmotorsports.com/wwocpressreleae9-7-11.htm

21st-22nd http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/?p=663

28th-29th http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/?p=658

Nov 3, 4, 5th The Budweiser Oval Nationals, America's most prestigious traditional Sprint Car race http://www.perrisautospeedway.com/2011/pr111011.html

Nov 17, 18, 19th.. Brady Bacon and Donny Schatz topped more than 120 drivers in 2010 as they became Champions of the Western World’s 43rd edition http://www.usaraceway.net/2011/10/04/mike-spencer-among-early-entries-for-western-world/ with more than $100,000 in “A” Feature money alone distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. A $15,000 share awaits the winner of the Lucas Oil ASCS Western World Champion, while the ASCS Canyon Region conqueror will pocket $5,000.

If I said anything in my post that's not true, just step right up and tell me what it was, and if I was wrong, you'll get my apology. Your lack of any solid information comes across loud and clear.

I don't want to rain on any parades but I was on the track on Sat. Being all I ever ran were full bodied cars (IMCA modifieds, Latemodels) if this race does happen I don't believe fuel will be the problem it is going to be tires this is not a clay track. The other issue is the track hasn't been compacted there will be very large holes that will appear during the race. I hope this works but driving a pick up around the track does not make it a race car or a race track.

Good deal, and just what is your car # and where do you run it regularly or have run it, and with what sanctioning body? Is a restricted 410 or a 360?... And if it wouldn't be to much to ask on top of all that, who's going to wheel it?

And that's exactly why Russ is between a rock and a hard place, and has been for some time. Look, if I thought there was going to be a "show" with even half the cars mentioned in the poster and on their advertisement I'd be heading out tomorrow morning to catch it, and then haul back to Apache Junction Saturday to support our guy's at home too.

Edit..Whoops, I forgot it starts Saturday, and not a Friday Saturday show, but two day shows. Be sure to sit down wind Joe.

Without any grandstands or concession stands they would have to pay me to watch a race. If there's any cars racing for that matter. You can find me drifting the wide blue sea... fishing!

There will be food and drink there Joe, so if you're already down you should check it out, from up wind..LOL
From ABC, Russ posted this last night when someone asked if the race was still on... YES of course the race is on and it is huge for the city of Puerto Peñasco! On Saturday the Mayor of Peñasco will start the race. There will be all the press here and the local radio stations are broadcasting live from the event. We expect 3- 4 thousand spectators. Tecate Beer is a major sponsor and Coca Cola just signed today. We have food vendors, we have entertainers coming for the crowd. It is going to be a huge party. We have had a few cars on the track already in practice and they love it! If you are a driver or a team you should be here. The fans here will support you fo sho! I will post pics and maybe video for those of you who want to be here but are - shall we say - timid? If you are not here this weekend you will be asking yourself "WHY?" later. It is all good and the track is perfect!

Do you have a list of who's entered in any of the categories yet? It would be fun to know who is going to break in your new track. I have heard of one driver so far that is planning on being there. Who will he race against?

I am flying into Penasco on my Learjet G6. It is painted with a Playboy Bunny head on the tail (my original idea, not Hugh Hefners). Will be in town tomorrow morning; right after I attend the Brewers/Royals game. I am bringing some of my Mexican Drug Cartel buddies. Don't piss me off...Kenny!

I need to check with my pilot to see where the baseball game is being played. I am a little drunk right now so I don't even know where I am.

Will be on a cruise ship out of Penasco once I finish driving in the Thunder race. Will I need to wear a helmet for the race?

To answer Kenny's questions:

Good deal, and just what is your car #?
My car number is 69.

Where do you run it regularly or have run it?
I prefer to run it at Indy or Talledega (I was in the movie Talledega Nights; Ballad of Ricky Bobby). I played the boyfriend of the gay French Car Driver. I found the role not to be much of a stretch for me. I occassionally run it at Monaco but I am not a big fan of Alabama.

And with what sanctioning body? What does your mom's body have to do with this? Her name isn't "Sanctioning" so why call her this? I always referred to her as "Kenny's mama."

Is a restricted 410 or a 360? I am bringing my Sprint Car, not my Ferrari 360 Modena! Kenny, you are so silly!

And if it wouldn't be to much to ask on top of all that, who's going to wheel it? I am going to tow it in a box trailer behind my Learjet G6. I have a really good aerodynamic trailer so I shouldn't have much drag. Had the trailer made at Numeros in Penasco. They sell neat trailers there! Or, did you mean who is going to drive it?

Maybe you could even name another (not that you've named yours LOL) team and driver that are coming down, in not only the sprints, but any division.
My team drivers are Jeff Gordon, Danica Patrick, Dale Earnhardt Sr. (RIP) and Ricky Bobby.

When I said "trackies," I meant "trekkies." These are my buddies I watch Star Trek reruns with!

Sorry bro!

My first race is at 5 am in the morning. I am told this is the best race with the most popular drivers racing. Jeff Gordon, Danica Patrick, Dale Sr. (RIP), Osama bin Laden (suffer in hell) and me will be getting the flag at 5 am. A race not to miss!

I encourage everyone arrive around 4 am to guarantee good seating. Remember, the first 1,200 ticket purchasers are guranteed air conditioned, balcony seating, as well as a free weekend stay at Esmerelda; Sandy Beach's most popular vacation destination.

10 ticket holders will be picked to receive a 10 day Carnival world cruise. This wonderful cruise vacation will begin in Mogidishu, Somalia, and conclude 10 days later in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Each person winning a luxury suite on Carnival's new ship, the Gus Brown Jr., will also be allowed one hour free use of one of the ship's deck mounted, 30mm Gatling Guns. Other destinations include: Bogata, Columbia; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran. Steve Schwab, from the world famous "Seaside Reservations" will be serving as Cruise Director for this wonderful vacation paradise. Please join Steve in the men's sauna for a drink or two. Remember men, no towels allowed in the sauna at anytime!
