I need a new prepay telcell phone. My phone came swimming with me last trip. Where's the best place to get a cheap but decent prepay telcell phone?
Roberto
I got one at the big office on Benito Juarez the old Jim Burr center across from the Circle K, about $30, included 100 pesos of time as well.

Roberto is that the telcell store next to Glorias pharmacy?

Thanks! Sitting in what appears to be a very long wait to enter Mexico
Roberto
How long so far and how far back are you?

What does Telcel charge for airtime? Bought an AT&T prepaid phone for $10 at Best Buy and calls to/from the US are 25 cents/min. Only used about 6 bucks worth last week as I usually use my Skype where wifi is available.

phone tip of the day...if you have internet via a hughesnet set up your google phone will work but it you try to access it via your telcel internet account (5g's a month for 35 bucks on a 18 month contract) google phone won't work

If you download the Google Voice app on your smart phone, you can put your phone on "Airplane" mode, use a wi-fi connection and make unlimited calls for free. Works for Android, Blackberry, iphone, etc. I used the texting feature while in Mexico but haven't tried to make a call yet, THOUGH I'm assuming it'd work. It's ESSENTIAL that you put your smart phone in Airplane Mode, otherwise you'll get hit with crazy roaming data charges. You should do this either way while in Mexico, for you can still browse the net, access your email, Facebook or whatever on your smartphone when you hit a bar or hotel with wi-fi, all the while not incurring any extra fees.

Download the app (you need a gmail account first) at http://www.google.com/mobile/voice/
