Heres the poster for the January 7th event. You'll notice that sand drags are added to the event list. Bob and Darren have met with the organizers of the local Sand Drag group and they need a place to race since Los Patos closed. So they are constructing a 100 yard sand strip for the drag cars. In the past when we would go to Los Patos there would be hundreds of people there to watch so we will see what this does for the racetrack in Puerto Peñasco
Russ...on Thanksgiving Day weekend when I was heading home Sunday evening, there were a pile of sand rails and 4wd vehicles, etc., being towed down to Penasco from the border....looked like all Mexican plates. Has that been a regular event in the area?
Sand drags have been a part of Sonora and especially Peñasco for many years. The club is serious and the machines are super quick. They race the circuits throughout the State and the Baja. In one event last year in Hermosillo there were over 90 entries for the sand drags at one event!
Racing is on for January 7th. There are over 12 dwarf cars signed up, looks like 6 sprints (Bobbie Markum has not given me names) 4 Modifieds. Thats all for the oval track racing.
Scene 2 Sand Drags. 30 cars have signed to run on the new track for the first event. We will probably be moving the majority of the events to a Sunday event when they include the local sand drag cars but each race will be different so we will let you know!.

I talked to some of the guy's that race Sprint cars out of Beals Auto Body and paint shop up here in Prescott at the Western world in Tuson last month, and I asked them if any of them (they run three cars) would consider running in PP; since they do, and have for a long time had JJ's Cantina on the side of two of their cars. They spun around and pointed to one of the guy's, Tim I think, and said "he would". I know those boy's have been coming down to Rocky Point for a long time, and I'm thinking, their thinking, it's party time: and any show up money will buy a lot of beer..LOL
By the way those pics above were taken today Dec 20 2011 and practice for a couple of dragster is tomorrow. You cant make this stuff up these guys are pumped!
This is the poster that is bring circulated through the Mexican racing community. January 7th 2012 Sand drags at the new multi purpose track at the reef

You better check the dates.
There is no offroad short course race on the Lucas Oil Regional schedule in Mexico for Feb. There is a ADRA (AZ Desert Racing Assoc) race scheduled in April.
The Lucas people are still in flux and it is a moving target but we are working with them the firm date will be announced as soon as we have the deal in place
Now I know Kennys' a sprinter but Im a go fast with suspension kind of guy! You get a shortcourse or desert race with some class 1 truggys or some TT down there and IM ALL IN, THERE IN A SECOND!!!

Joe, its coming. The track has been getting a lot of attention. Had some inquiry s just this week from some folks up in Phoenix who want to race with their groups too! More restriction in the States means good racing in Sonora. This track was needed.

I've said all along that they need to go with the off road style of racing, and maybe the hobbie class guy's from the dirt tracks; certainly no sprint car sactioning body would even think about putting on a show at that track as it is now.... By the way, Benji one of the promoters from USA speedway in Tucson has a new lease for the track that's been closed in Casa Granda, and their doing a lot of work on it for a opening in the spring.
