Any Rain in Penasco?

For the past couple of days, the Tucson weather report has shown big storms over Penasco, but on the Wunderground Playa La Jolla site, it only shows .02" of rain. Weather Station History | Weather Underground

Has there been any rain in Penasco or just Sonoyta?

(And yes, I'm trying to change the subject)

On my tour to Pinacate yesterday I was upset when my super clean windows on my van became spotted with the 13-14 drops of rain we had......I had to wash them again......oh well its the price we pay to live by blue water!
Roberto
It is interesting to watch the rain storms blow by down towards Caborca and then deluge Sonoita while we get a few drops. It's been consistent over the years.
rockyptjoe
The first few years I was coming down to Penasco, and camping at Playa Bonita, those storms scared the hell out of me...but 99 out of a 100, they would just pass by up towards the border! Nice light shows, but nothing in town....
Stuart
It was awesome (and a bit scary) to watch them build while we were out on the water. Friday, it looked like a BIG one was going to roll into Penasco from the south... but never made it. In Lobos on Sat., same thing - huge thunderheads and we could hear thunder out on the water. But not so much as as a drop on the way back up to Penasco.

I have had storms develop practically over top at me this time of the year out on the water and NOTHING, absolutley NOTHING scares me more than seeing lightning strikes on the water. The minute I see any lightning, it's hammer time on both throttles and run in the opposite direction!
GV Jack
I with seven others, (four players and four caddies) in a tournament in the mountains of North Carolina many years ago, got knocked down by a bolt of lightning on the 17th fairway.

We had to be fastest white guys that ever ran getting into the club house. I swear, that's what happened to my hair. To this day, if it's anywhere around, I'm outta there.

So, I don't blame you Stuart. Just don't hide under a tree.
mexicoruss
If its not raining why am I soaking wet?

We had about 3" of rain at our house in Tucson last night! And Tropical Storm Fabio is heading up the Mexican Pacific/Baja coast:

Nice pictures- we're hoping for no more rain for a couple of days so the ground can soak it in. Double rainbows were beautiful. Thanks for posting.

OK- I checked this site, and there are 3 active threads- ALL Rants and Raves. So to redirect, did it rain in Penasco or Santo Tomas last night? It looked like a huge storm was heading south of Penasco last night: Intellicast - Daily Precipitation in United States

There was a terrific wind storm with a little rain last night some time. I slept through it but saw the results this morning. A heavy layer of sand on the tiled patios and the truck. Rain spots on the truck. The sand was coarse, heavy and wet on the ground. Would have loved to see the wind. It's cloudy today , big ones blowing out of the SE towards Sonoyta. Bet they get some rain up there today.

Showed huge winds last night in Playa Encanto around midnight. Wonder if it correct? Gusts 64 - 80 and wind speed 50 plus???

Looks like they took a 180 in direction too when it started to whip.
Roberto
Anyone ever hear of tornados in this area? That wind last night picked up some very heavy beach sand and delivered it to my house.

I have seen 3 water spouts in Cholla and on Sandy Beach over the past 20 years, wind gusts of 60+mph from them, none in the past 2 years that I was there for.
Roberto
About 2:20 AM mother nature announced the arrival of a storm with a thunderous crash. A lightening display of little sparkelers followed for about maybe 45 minutes. Like flash bulbs popping. A few drops fell and there was a brisk breeze. Crap all over the patios this AM.

August 1998 - San Carlos, Sonora - the biggest and best thunder, lightening and rain storm I've ever seen at the beach. The sound of the thunder bouncing off the mountains was incredible. Definitely one of the most romantic nights of my life!

we used to camp at catch 22 beach when the fake Italian village set was still there...loved that place

Stayed at Catch 22 beach in 1983- before all the condos, hotels, Club Med,etc. Beautiful

Love that place! Would love to go back, not sure where to stay on the beach anymore. Any recommendations?

everyone needs to reread the book

There's also a scene in The Mask of Zorro (Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones) where Don Rafael Montero returns from Spain that was filmed at that beach.

No rain today but again a HUGE cumulus formation moves toward Sonoita.

Sure looks like RP will get a drenching, Those huge clouds are moving your way, at least cool it off, for past 2 days it looked tolerable by cooling of a bit.
Yea!!!! Can't wait to get down.

My friend Lydia Rowes dad spent 2 years in an Italian pow camp after being shot down on one of those bombers...never flew again! South Tucson boys get around

Why is it that my house only leaks when it rains? Been raining pretty much all morning in the hood!
Roberto
Yep, think it drizzled all night long. Had little lightening but rollling thunder in 15 to 20 second rolls. Sort of like a jazz piece where you keep waiting for the last note ! It was dark like 6AM at 9AM this morning. Cloudy right now but no big cumulus clouds on the horizon blowing toward Sonoita.

Sounds beautiful. Wish i were there.

Heading back north soon. But this has been a great trip. More clouds and intermittent rain than I have seen in a long time down here. During a light shower yesterday, it was uncomfortably chilly! But of course that was short lived. Hate to leave.

Where were you staying Southbeacher?

Yep, it got messy. Not sure of the latest situation in its entirety, only that (at least) the section where I live has been resolved -- bank trust now tightly in my fist.

This builder by the name of Omar Saenz stopped everything out there, in the end he will end up with everything.

Good for you. That Irish fella and his realtor girl left with millions of collected payments for fees, capitol gains taxes, the clean up goes on slowly.
mis2810
Is that where Playa Azul is? Or are those different problems?

Yep Omar Saenz stopped everything on that beach, Bank Trust or not they are all in the same sand bar. He wanted to settle and all of the sudden they put this stuff up and man it really got bad. You would never believe who really owed all that land.
mis2810
Wasn't he a politician too?
playaperro
Nope just a guy from penasco.
mis2810
I thought I had heard that the problem with Playa Azul was that the developers were fighting in the courts with the supposed owner of the land who was the governor of Sonora or something.
playaperro
northbeach and omar were going at it and northbeach sold the land, omar won the case.
jerry
tucson guys (of course) bungee jump and camp at the Playa azul shell on full moons...love to see it
Roberto
No rain today, clear skies on all of the horizon.
