I know you are doing you're job Tim, but please do not use the State Department or the Consulate as a means of valid information. Please don't use their bulletin bs. It's like, "don't go to Rocky Point, there is Swine Flu in Mexico City." Their cockamamie reports have screwed Rocky Point for years. Total fabrication, misinformation and exaggeration. Reporters, uninformed and inexperienced like yourself, continue to hammer Rocky Point into oblivion. Move down there, get on the ground, build some real relationships and then you might be able to report at a higher level than you are doing. Maybe even better than a bunch of us 'novices' like we all are on this blog-site! I can tell you this though, this blog-site is 1000x more accurate than the stinking State Department !

The area that this heinous act took place is an area were god loving americans frequent.
Tim- you may want to consider further research other than cut and paste bits and pieces of info you read about online. For example do some investigative journalism regarding the 2 events and you may find out it was not as exciting and dangerous as you had hoped for.

From everything I have heard, there were individuals with KIDS and WIVES, and their 'men' were involved with shady activities. They may have been Americans, however they were not like a little family from Awatukee going down for a little sun in the fun and some shrimp tacos. I hate to hear about any violence against innocents, but the men they were with put them in that position.
I was told that in the home invasion, a group of the people staying in the house had gone out for drinks and maybe the casino. When the invasion took place, the 'invaders' specifically asked where the guys who had gone into town were. They were looking for specific individuals. When they didn't find them, the basically became "terrorists" as cartel members do to prove a point, and did what they did. It is terrible, but it is NOT a random act of violence like is being portrayed in the US media and the salivating story that MR Senior Reporter Tim on The Scent wants to report.
It sucks though because perception is reality.

Tim, seriously, do you spect to get answers in this forum???? the great majority does know nothing, as you can read, they do not even live in Rocky Point full time and the others left know as much as the first group, and have very little understanding of the language as they are not proficent at it after 30 years of living down in Mexico, those two ingredients put together tells you it's going to be a sucky dinner!!! I had a cousin, Howard Bryan who unfortunately passed away at age 91, recently. Howard was a reporter. journalist and author,
who was quite well known in the New Mexico area. In fact, I know there are some in this forum that new him.
Our families grew up in Cleveland and when Bud returned from WW2 he went to work for the old and now defunct Cleveland Press.
He went to visit New Mexico and made it his home. We were chatting one day and I asked him what made a good reporter great.
He said going to the story and not letting it come to you. He also said verify, verify, verify.
Now, I wouldn't dream of telling a seasoned reporter how to do his business, but it might help if you go to Rocky Point and dig into it there.
I would go in the day time because there have been reports that driving at night can be dangerous, in Phoenix. I would be more than glad
to meet you there in late September, to introduce you to my friends at the Centro Police Station. I am very well known there as the Green
Valley Desparado. (By the way this is my way of warning those in Rocky Point that I'm coming so get the women, children and sheep off the
streets.) Now if you want to meet the gendarmes sooner, I have a friend I can set you up with who is much more well known with them than
I am. I wont give you his name, but his initials are R.O.B.E.R.T.O.
So Tim, go to Puerto Penasco, get the real story, not the U.S Government version and let us know what the truth is. I believe that's the purpose
of investigative reporting. Truth.....

No one is going to pay a reporter to vacation in Penasco, they would miss reporting on other violence. They will blow and go on the story until it does not sell papers then go on to the next bit of bull. BTW, rumor mill folk, I have now 3 different versions of ALL the facts and details from THREE different usually reliable and believable in-the-know sources and guess what?? They are all different! One source is 'well connected' on one side, another source is 'well connected' on the other side and the third source is well, just well connected and respected. Three sources, three stories just what to expect.
I really do not get those of you who want all the details. This situation appears to have been a tragedy for some and maybe they don't want to be on Reality TV.

Given the amount of subscribers and ad revenue the Star currently has, it's doubtful they have the budget to send a reported further than South Tucson.

Not that you were WRONG per se. It's a matter of the emphasis that you or your editor likes. Juxtaposing statements for 'coloring', reporting stuff as fact, creating implications, beating a story to death, you know the routine. Any decent writer can create a message with other than the meaning of the words.

Actually as I think you might agree, we see eye to eye on lots of stuff just a matter of getting there from different directions. I still love the proof of conspiracy story about the blood gushing out of the Clinton's aids body who had to have been dead for hours, that was a good one.
Just a couple observations. The police in Rocky Point deserve credit for engaging these bad guys in a shootout where they were probably outgunned. That shows alot of courage and it is horrible that one of them was killed and 2 were injured. They are risking their life for very little money and their actions in this shootout appear extremely brave. I also think the reporter Ted has guts for coming on the forum and trying to get more information. He appears to be doing his job which is to report facts and information. I like most people want the home invasion crimes to be drug related because it makes it easier to explain. The sad fact is though that sometimes bad things happen to good people and there always isn't an explanation for violent crime. Sometimes it's just bad people doing bad things.

I'm just trying to be helpful and report to others on this site and provide information I have gotten from a credible source. Would it be better if I said nothing? Do you have the accurate information? Can you tell me where I am wrong? I am fine being wrong, I don't know anyone involved and did not see what happened. So, blow in the envelope Carnak and enlighten us to what transpired.
Lastly, if you have your reading glasses on, I originally stated from the my first comment that I cannot guarantee this information.

I assume the Las Conchas HOA will do something about the security at the gate. I am not sure if this is true, but from what I heard the perpetrators used a stolen car or SUV to get in which the gate security recognized and so they let them in without checking who was driving. That seems to be common practice by gate security. I also heard that the perpetrators are in custody and were not from Rocky Point, so the police have done their job. Kudos to them.

I dunno for sure but I believe I heard one of the dead perps lived in Las Conchas. Probably had the stickers and was let through. I'll probably have more of a problem in September when I go to the rental.

The guards in Las Conchas are useless in my opinion. They cannot be fired because of their union affiliation and can be bought off for a Reggie's donut or burrito.
They are tough on fireworks on the beach and non-stickered atv's entering into the community, but if you have 'bad guys' or thieves with a bribe coming in, then it's just... let 'em through.

They have photo's and camera's, videotape of everyone coming through in a vehicle, what good is a bribe if your going to get busted, security has been real tight since there were a few larceny's. The so called masked bandits were on the property and never left. also video of everyone leaving, yeah blame the guards, defenseless on here..

I'm more talking in general. There has been so much burglary, etc over the past few years right under the guards noses. Every time there is a salary dispute, it kind of strange that the break-ins and theft increases. I guess it's just a coincidence.

I mentioned in one of my first post's, AC some of the scoundrels lived in Las Conchas. The guards had nothing to do with it. Beside that there are other way's to drive into Las Conchas, without going thru the guard gate. I have driven to to dunes on the end of Las Conchas, many times from the estuary side.

Great point. Let's all get real here:
Guards and gates can not (and will not) prevent crime. What guards and gates do is increase inconvenience, making external criminals more likely to go expend their efforts elsewhere, where it is easier to get in and out of; but guards can not prevent interaction (even criminal interaction) amongst the "residents" of a community, any more than having more cops can reduce crime in Rocky Point (or anywere else) as a whole...
Assigning any blame or responsibility for crime to the guards (or cops) is silly.
The lessons of human history (5000 years worth) teach us that there are 2 effective ways to reduce crime in a community:
1) Promote free will, economic freedom, education, and judicial balance among a population that maintains the personal right to arm and defend itself (like the early American colonies did)
-or-
2) Oppress the population under the constant threat of excessive violence and/or death by an active "government" as the consequence of criminal behavior.
It is not mere coincidence that the territories conquered by Ghenghis Khan had some of the lowest recorded crime rates in history once they were under the control of the warlords.
There was no crime because everyone lived every minute in fear of being beheaded for making a wrong move. Zen and YinYang are extremely efficient in stripping empathy out of the equation when it comes time to decide whose timer gets to keep ticking, and whose timer is expired...
As a human society, we are closing in on the moment that we (as an entire species) will have to CHOOSE which system we prefer to exist within.
I will choose free will, and I will live with the possibility of crime as a necessary cost of my freedom.

I gave you guys straight answers, and others on this forum who have some knowledge also said nothing to that effect. The only mention of that was the former DEA guy, Colson...who knows nothing and is simply guessing. He also, by the way, indicated that it might've been a purging of the ranks from within. Then you go on to name groups who've not been associated with this incident.
And by the way, cops killing bad guys is usually not described as a massacre.

Every news outlet has it wrong about the dead being "Cartel members"? Everyone in Penasco now is aware of the Tonnage of Maryjane that has been confiscated just this year. What, about 15 tonnes confiscated? Since 10% is what is lost, that would mean 150 tonnes go by this port. Puerto Penasco now has become a major tran ship location, by boat and by roads. This area is Sinaloa country; big bucks dropped here is a good thing right?

Every story including the PEI says this was a gang related killings.
Here; take a gander and look at the pictures and tell me a first impression is not a red murders, a Valentine day massacre.

That this was gang related is a good thing; this event in Chicago, the "Valentine's Day Massacre" was the beginning of the end for both gangs. It was never proven that these murders where by the Al Capone's gang. Only that Bugsy's people where the ones dead. It was assumed just as here it is assumed it is Sinaloa Cartel related. Lets hope there is enough local outcry as in Chicago. This event and the Public outcry brought to light started and was the beginning of the end and push to get rid of Al Capone and their mafia and corruption that these dollars purchased.
Lets wait and see how long it takes for local officials to step up and tell citizens what their investigation has turned up.

Wow...you're all over the map with this post. I never disputed that those involved were associated with a cartel. I said you named groups that had nothing to do with it, or with Penasco. The players were well-known. You want to take that connection and tie it to Chicago and to your statistics (mingled with your own math) on drug smuggling? Go for it. I'm staying on-topic. As posted in my statement on another thread, a renegade band was veering way off the path and committed several crimes that were unacceptable to those within and outside their group. They were dealt with. Some would like you to think that the victims of the crimes somehow brought this on themselves, but to allow that to go uncorrected would be to further victimize them.
By the way..."grupos delictivos" can refer to two factions from within the same organizaton. Look it up in Oxford's

Well, you still don't get it. Sorry about that. I"d rather get it accurate than half as#e. What's the problem with that? How does it help matters to jump on something with inflammatory analogies and incomplete information? Admitting you know nothing then summarizing, elaborating and repeating a lot of stuff others have said isn't helpful, is it? Acting on incomplete and inaccurate information is just as bad as acting on no information, maybe worse. People want to know mostly for the purpose of predicting, anticipating, future events. The violence that occurred was in the past. I am sitting here in Penasco and it's a typical quiet Sunday, nothing obvious going on in the present. Does this past violence predict more in the future? That's the concern I think. Relax, Carnac is working on it, so is Rosie.

I have been in town for a week and I was going to comment on some of the "inside information" I have heard regarding the home invasion and in town shooting, but then I decided it is just rumors and although I trust the locals here that told me what they know, it does not mean it is true, so I am declining to spread any more rumors.
We are having a great time in PP this week, the weather and the beach are beautiful, everyone is friendly and the town feels safe as always to me.

So, its been a week, and I'm about to book a rental in rocky point. Interesting thread. I take away two things. A. likely Cartel related crime, with no "American Pie Americans" being targeted. and B. We don't know anything, rumors afloat the truth will come out. I think I get it, and I think this is all telling me its safe to get a condo and return to rocky point. What I didn't understand was all the talk of Greeks, and why the author Limmas, was so vague about it? I should probably read more.

Just go and be excited about it. I was there Aug. 3-5 - just 2 weeks ago. Everything was normal and as perfect as ever on Sandy Beach and in a beautiful condo. Don't listen to any of the naysayers and alarmists - they are all full of cr*p.

Mondone, there is nothing further from the truth than your statement, there are several members who post here that know pretty much what happened and we have talked about it amongst ourselves. FYI, never in one of my posts did I ever mention it was safe or unsafe to come to Rocky Point. I was vague about it, because I want to keep enjoying my life in Mexico.

WTF does this have to do with me Mondone? There are only a few people on here that I find credible and Lagrimas happens to be one of them. Did it ever occur to you there may be a very good reason why no other details were released? Not just by people on this forum but in the media as well.

I never said nothing happened in Penasco, I said if you remember it did happen, they were American tourists not mafia, does that sound like i am trying to protect something, everybody asked how could they( the assualters) get past the guards in Las Conchas, I said it was no problem, one of them had a house there and lived there. The report originally was the family was of greek origen, because of the last name, it turns out actually they are italian and jewish. I dont know what else I said that was so unbeleivable, I cant change what I know, just to make everybody happy. I mentioned, when Sunflower was burning, my grandparents had a ranch there, and all I was allowed to ride were the burros, because of the terrain. Calling somebody a jackass should be taken as a compliment, I loved my jackass. Also Kenny, everybody that posts here that has property in Las Conchas, has received emails from the President, explaining a little of what happened, but whitewashed. I have a couple myself.
