Like someone else said here not too long ago. Until there is a shootout on Sandy Beach, I'm still going. I feel bad for the locals that have to suffer through this again and, unfortunately, I think this time it's going to be worse. The media has really been hyping this one.
What really bothers me is the hypocrisy of it all. Did we not just have 12 people killed and 58 wounded in Aurora? Last Friday there were 2 shootings in Phoenix and an armed gunman threatening a marching band practice in Prescott. These are all random acts of violence against innocent people. Why the demonization of Mexicans and Mexico when the violence is contained to all bad guys anyway?
This story is now a 'spin off' of Aurora and the shooting in AZ. Media loves to develop a 'theme' of stories, keeps up the energy level. OH also it's very important that you report the story at least 5 minutes before the competition, "You heard if FIRST here on KAKA 13. Death and destruction garners advertising dollars. Revolt, turn off the news, don't buy a news paper. You will hear all about it on Social Media.
This is only bad for the US visitors, who have been pretty much absent anyway for some time due to economic conditions. Mexicans are flocking to Penasco is bigger and bigger numbers.
The morning the article hit, I got a call from a prospective renter of a vacation cabin I have near Prescott, AZ. The young woman said, "My girlfriends and I were going to Rocky Point next week, but everyone's getting killed down there now. Is your cabin available instead?" I'd have liked to have set her straight with facts that we unfortunately just don't yet have.
Oh, and I rented her the cabin...with a warning to keep low because lightning there is a bigger risk than violence in Penasco.
How come rp doesnt make a statement in az paper correcting that people were not shot up on sandy beach and there is not bodies everywhere. This is what people are hearing & thinking. They should also state how well the police/military acted etc. Maybe they have to wait until are the facts are together?

Actually, Mrs GV heard the shots. This happened about 100 yards from our place, just across La Canada. She was up because she was getting ready to go
to the airport. When we left for the airport there were cops all over the place. It seems a guy was having a fight with his girl friend about 2:30 this morning. I wonder if
booze was involved? These are a string of small townhouses. She ran to a neighbor's place and he let her in. Her boyfriend then forced his way into the neighbors
and the girl ran out. He told her to get into his car and he started in beating her. The neighbor came out with a gun and shot the guy. He got out of the car and collapsed and died.
When I got back from the airport at 4:30 there were cops still all over and I had to talk my way into getting back into my area. I think after all this I need to move to Las Conchas.
Green Valley, are you kidding me. The interesting thing is the guy was 28, the girlfriend 23 and the neighbor 35. That must be the only non-age restricted area in GV.
Another time that had a better ending was about five years ago. An older gentleman who had a bit of a drinking problem was dating a waitress from the Cow Palace in Amado.
She had enough of his antics and she told him to buzz off. Here comes the interesting part. He gets pissed, gets in his golf cart and drives by her place and starts shooting at it.
By the time he gets home the cops are already there waiting for him. This made the national news in the catagory of Golf Cart Drive By Shootings. I know the lady it's the truth.

that there was also shooting at the beach with someone left dead? My wife told me about it and so I checked their reports on the fox 10 website and got the story about the main incident but it did not mention
any incidents at the beach. Was there even a shred of truth to that part?...I just don't know where they got it from, other than just making it up.

Let me start over, the people that were assualted, were American's.......On vacation......Greek,,,,,,,Nothing to do with any illicit business here in RP........In your opinion True or False. Another poster on this site, has also laid it out in bits and pieces, you just have to read between the lines. From what I can see, everybody has bought into everything but the truth. Its a lot less complicated,than everybody is making it. Yes what happened on July 17 and July 19 are related, but not like it has been talked about on this site.

That's a misconception many of you have...you think your media won't lie to you. Of course they will...they lie and manipulate your thoughts and sentiments on a daily basis. If you aren't hearing us when we tell you what did or didn't happen in Rocky Point, then I have to believe you're waiting for someone to say what you expect them to say. Just ask yourself, if there were more to the story, wouldn't the Consulate warning have been more strongly worded?

Ben and Kramer, I previously posted a statement on Facebook and didn't think to post it here. You'll find it (slightly modified) below. Some people on this forum just love the blood and guts versions, the more exaggerated, the better. Others like to claim 'inside information' that only makes me laugh out loud. Hopefully this will help you deflect inquiries you're getting. Don't worry too much about the haters...those of us who've ever tried in vain to 'educate' an ex-spouse can tell you it's futile to educate anyone who has their mind made up. Like Russ says, it's time to just focus on the others.
As most people know, crimes against tourists in Rocky Point are extremely rare. Unfortunately, in recent months four separate incidents were reported to the U.S. Consulate, all seemingly committed by the same individuals.
As you can imagine, local authorities took the reports very seriously and investigated aggressively.
On July 19[sup]th, when State Investigative Police attempted to approach suspects in a vehicle matching a victim description, the police were fired upon. In the ensuing altercation and car chase, 5 criminals and, sadly, one law enforcement officer died. All of the criminals were from out of town.
There are indications that the above incident coincided with an already-ongoing confrontation within a criminal group that was in the process of exacting discipline to those who had veered from their commitment to keep this city safe.
Weeks have passed since then without incident. It’s clear to all that this put an end to a relatively small crime wave, the likes of which we can't have in this community. However, in light of recent news reports in the U.S. media about the incident, the U.S.State Department issued a travel warning for people coming to Puerto Penasco. This information is being shared with you so you can be informed and hopefully reassured that we care about your safety.
No doubt the criminal element will now think twice before targeting tourists. The message is clear...the type of activity that hurts tourism won't be tolerated here.

Only 1% of the reading public in CNN, FOX will bother to investigate the truth, too much work and not worth their time. This story is irrelavent since it is not in their back yard, and PP is not in their vacation plans. It just goes to add in their mind why it is a good idea RP is not in their Vacation plans.

This matter isn't an issue for our local police department. It has always been the STATE INVESTIGATIVE POLICE (PEI). When you're perusing the local blood and guts tabloids, take a moment to check out the legitmate state or national newspapers.

As I have seen a few headline grabbing things happening in and around RP over the past 20+ years of going.
I remember in 1991ish when there was that horrific murder in Las Conchas by an investor's transsexual lover to kill his wife, Headline grabber,
but I went that month and had a great time.
In the mid 90's when they had the execution type slayings just north of the 2 bridges at the mini chapels where 2 guys were killed and 1 woman was spared.
I went down the next day with my amigos, the blood stains were still there in the road, I had a great time in spite of that. It was drug related..
A couple of years ago there was the shooting at Benito Juarez and the RR tracks, where 3 people where killed, 1 poor local who was in the line of fire,
and 2 people from Caborco, I went 3 days later and I had a great time. Again, Probably drug related.
Last year when there was the shooting at Calle 13, I was down that week had a awesome time, again probably drug related.
As one can surmise either I happen to go to Penasco only, when bad things happen or I just go to have a Great RP adventure in spite of stuff happening.
All of the recent news will not make me lock my doors more than I have in the past, or live in fear of bad things happening.

That might help some of the people that don't come on here as often..... Sorry Rosy, but respondin that it is the responsibility of the State police to investigate doesn't help calm those who are leery of coming down.

Consult the great Carnac for future predictions which is what is of concern. I have heard that he will be installing a booth at the entry of town for the convenience of those of you who are concerned.

No one has put the story in a clear concise form....without the misdirection, wise ass comments, etc.....

And knocking the Penasco government, you would think with the bad publicity that this is generating, they would put out some kind of press release spelling out the "facts".....yeah...yeah...it is still being investigated!!!

Joe, why is it so important for everybody here to have answers, if the government here was that worried about, they would have already made a statement..........Here this is about all you are going to get. Some of them dont deserve answers. You not being one of them...All they do is scoff at the truth, I wouldn't give them the sweat off my you know what's.
Interesting commercial this morning with tucson shooting survivors stating that approx 48,000 people will die from guns in the usa during the next presidential term. Maybe reporters should be stating that at tbe end of there "usa" articles like they do on any "mexican" news article. Is true what someone stated here.. In the usa it is bad guys killing innocent people and in mexico it is bad guys killing bad guys. Was surprised at the murder rate in puerto rico...higher than mexico and that there is a huge drug war going on there but there is no travel advisory there and is a major cruise ship hub. Have not heard about any of that violence in the news. The crime statistics in the usa are astonishing if you take the time and research them.

What happened in those few days, I don't think anyone will know the truth and by all means I don't think if anyone did know all the truth it would not be posted on here. JMO
I wouldn't worry too much Kramer.Puerto Penasco is a side show in this thing.Guys might lay up there and do stupid stuff but the big action is in Baja to the west (Tunnels Are Us) and from the Eastern edge of Sasabe all the way to the gulf.Caborca is feeling pressure that is for sure but Puerto Penasco is pretty safe. The Highways from the South are shut down...the cops/marines have shot the shat out of two groups,seized a 50 cal rifle in a road side stop(some of this was the same day the shoot out in RP happened...(who knows if they were connected) and hunted a guy from a helicopter that escaped a gun battle.It is also the beginning of harvest season so all kinds of trouble comes with the migrants from the South to Y griega etc.All kinds of knife fights and shootings (those Southern boys are pretty nuts when loaded) The guys in Lobos aren't worried,the Santo Tomas guys are hanging at the beach so why should you worry up in Penasco?

Kramer, If I were you and really wanted to know what happened. I would get in my car drive down to Penasco and find the spokesperson for the state police, they are all staying at the Old Playa Inn, across the street from Reggies and jusk ask him for an explanation of what took place. Or you can meet with Mayor Alejandro Zepeda on Wedesday's if they still have the public meetings with the Mayor on that day. Or go to the municipal police spokesman, that way you can get it all first hand. Then stop by the office just before the gate into Las Conchas and also, ask them. I am sure Arturo would be happy to fill you in or ask to talk to the HOA president. It's probably, just that easy. There are too many people, posting they're own opinions on here to ever get, the right answers here.
