Yes you've never seen me post before - I've been lurking the last few months. Lately Henry Altman has been on some internet radio show (don't know the name - I'll post it later) but you can listen to back issues or repeats of the show on demand. For his show on November 2 and November 9 he claims the be broadcasting "overlooking the beautiful beaches of Rockypoint" or something similar. In other words he is telling the listeners that his broadcasting his bs from RP. Has anyone seen him or can anyone verify that he is or was in RP? To me it sounds like more Henry A BS. I've know him for a LONG time and there is more BS than you will ever imagine.
Now you have "24 major artists" still but tickets in December? How about we pay you 400 units of a major world currency (such as Columbian money or some other low-value currency) versus 400 USD for that?
I will bet that this will NEVER get pulled off.
I haven't seen much other chatter - any new news or gossip about Boomerfest?
Yeah !! I heard Elvis AND Buddy Holly are scheduled to play !! They are working on the Big Bopper too. Should be a sold out show with names like that. Heard there are several large groups coming from England, France and the Netherlands. the airport here is concerned about all the planes coming in as they are not accustomed to that much traffic. Most of hte condos are booked for the fest too so bring a tent !!
So they have started on the construction? I've heard that they have some bands signed up but still working on some. Gather it is much more involved then maybe anticipated.
I heard a rumor... that they will be tearing down Wrecked at the Reef for this event. Something along the lines that Gus Brown owes waaaaay too much back taxes and opted to give up the land to the Mexican Government? Like I said... rumor.
- Don't know if any construction of stages has begun but can tell you that no one in City Government knows anything about this event. Jake3997, please email me at [email protected] (if you can't yet pm).
- Some on here know Randy at Wrecked and surely he can confirm whether it's being torn down. I think that rumor was started by the same organizers...at least that's where I first heard it. They said they're tearing down to build a wine-tasting and chef competition facility. This would have nothing to do with the city, so donating it for taxes doesn't quite jibe with it being used by private investors for a private enterprise that the city knows nothing about.
- Rumors sometimes blend into each other and I think it happened here. It recently made news that the previous city administration accepted land out near the convention center from one of Sandy Beach Resorts' companies, supposedly in lieu of back taxes. It's an issue because there's a discrepancy with the value of the land and the amount credited.
- Altman has an internet radio show that he can transmit from anywhere with a computer and mic. Several of the others on that ex-pat website who also have radio shows are coincidentally with him on the organizing committee for Boomer Fest.
no one in City Government knows anything about this event.
Well, that speaks volumes in my mind. How do you plan something of this supposed size and impact and NOT involve the city government? I mean, is one to assume that fire/medical, police/security, traffic control, trash, electricity, water, etc., etc., etc. is all being handled by private enterprises? Me thinks not.
Too much mordida to bring the city in on private property, Concerts have been done down the east beach area before, Gus Brown always wants full control on his land. As for police protection you can ask our Cholla Bay residents how much stuff is missing in the last 6 months.
Affordable Beach Front Property in Sonora Mexico It hurts the brain.....Elton John would have done us all a favor if he would have beat Henry to death with a guitar in Japan in 1974 when Henry apparently was giving Elton his big break in asia.
Henry...the suckers have lost all their money. No one is going to buy beach land in a tidal flat from you because you have some crappy leggo model of a "green" development in the back of your station wagon and you are personal friends with Jacques Cousteau
Examining the Boomerfest concept from a logistical standpoint it does not add up. Agents rely on their top tier acts to feed agency coffers. What agent would be willing to sell a national act to an untested festival and a first-time talent buyer, in a city of 30,000+ people in a foreign country that lacks a major airport with regular international flights? A number of the proposed acts are already playing in smaller venues (theatres or sheds) within a few hundred miles of Rocky Point. Has anyone here ever read the contract/rider requirements of these bands? Good luck supplying the travel, hotel and catering requirements of these large tours in Rocky Point (the closest Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton is several hundred miles away). Buying these acts for a festival which is not part of the normal routing would be defined as a one-off show. This would effectively double or triple the artists normal guarantee. No agent will risk his position in a cut throat industry to aid an untested festival.
I would love to see a major festival become a yearly event in Rocky Point. Too kick that off and make it a reality, Boomerfest organizers need to start small and build it year by year. Start with a group that has the potential to draw (Jimmy Buffett) and then add groups each year once you have a proven concept. For a first time festival they will greatly overpay the artist guarantee and will no doubt lose money the first few years. Much like Country Thunder and Coachella, it may become something after proof of concept.
Checking out the beach today and came across my buddies from the band "BOSTON" and they said they were impressed with the area, can hardly wait to play for the Boomers. Really good tribute band.

Here's an idea - are any hotels totally booked or blocked out for those days? Does anyone know? They would have reserved the rooms already and there would not be any rooms available.

they requested a hold on rooms that required a down payment be made by a certain date (ex. feb. 1st).
La Frontera, Mexico | Traveling4Health.com This is another one, Henry Altman is promoting, I am doing an Enviromental Impact Study on a piece of land along the same stretch, in one article he talks about a big hotel, condo pads, restaurants, and lots for housing, from what I can gather about the land north of Penasco to El Golfo, is not stable enoiugh for any buildings taller than 2 storys and in some cases no more than 1 story, and because of the reserve, some may never be built on at all. I am in what is called the shock absorber for the Alto Golfo Reserve, I think his property is in Ejido Tobiyori, which is in the nucleous of the reserve, i doubt any of his stuff will ever be developed.

Now come on, that is not true! I hope you're kidding! I know tons of secrets that I never tell. Wanting to hear juicy gossip and and repeating it are two different things. Besides, you're the one with the loose lips after a few beers not me!

Glad you're kidding, I've been sitting here racking my brain about what secret I would have told you. LOL Thanks for the well wishes, I just hope it all comes together like we want it to. You and Favi bust a darn good move on the dance floor too!
OK - just looked at the BFD website - now tickets go on sale "Spring 2013" - I thought an update was imminent according to the deleted Facebook posts..
The whole Boomer Fest thing is just embarrassing for these "promoters". Who announces a giant concert like that before getting all the acts lined up first. The logicstics for visas, taxes, etc. is a nightmare. Gambling is for Vegas, not promoting concerts in another country. When this becomes a giant fail, whoever these people are will never have any credibility left.

I am not sure if it will happen or not. I am not cheerleading just adding some other thoughts. I asked the same questions about the legalities of the talent playing in Mexico and I was told (and it makes sense) I was told that all of the acts play internationally already and that their agents handle all of that part of it anyway. The talent can fly in the day of their schedule if they want and fly out same day. I have done this with investors recently so I know that it is true and not difficult to do.
If I was doing it I would need a year I think. The way it is billed it is too big to even wrap my head around. A couple of weeks ago I watched the Hurricane Sandy relief concert on TV. It was put together in less than a month after the event on the eastern coast. It had names that you would never have dreamed to be there because of scheduling. I bring this point out just to say that if you have the right contacts and influence amazing things can happen. I am waiting to see too just like everyone else.
Russ, the Sandy thing was different. The artists did the Sandy concert for free. There's no way the promoters of Boomer Fest can guarantee the kind of money these acts would want to play. Just take Santana for example. I'm sure he charges upwards of $100k per show. There's no way Boomer Fest will even make $100k.
When I was younger, I worked in the music business doing concert tours for almost a decade (merchandise, production and then tour accounting). This is not how things work. Agents sell shows to experienced promoters, not first time show buyers. Agents do NOT assist in booking travel or obtaining visas. They provide the promoter (buyer) with a large contract and rider which lays out all of the artist requirements and the promoters own production manager takes care of the details.
The cost for a one-off show (not a routed tour where the band is already on the road) is usually double the cost. Santana's guarantee is over $300,000 for a tour performance and more than double that for a one-off show. As I have already pointed out previously, he is doing a residency in Las Vegas and the dates conflict with Boomerfest. The most recent charity concert was produced by long time promoters who were brought into the fold by heavyweights like Harvey Weinstein and Steve Burke.
There is no agent in the world who will sell a major act to a promoter who is doing a first-time fesitval in a foreign country, in a small town of 36,000 people. The mere fact the announcement of the line-up keeps changing is proof enough that this is not going to happen. In the end, Boomerfest, if anything, will be nothing more than a Beach Boys concert or similar type act on the beach playing to less than stellar numbers.

Santana plays in Tucson at the casino del sol ava amphi, I don't think they pay him that kind of money, Maybe he won't be coming now that he is in vegas. Check there site mostly headliners and it is a small place.

I don't think so Jerry, it will go down with Eddie Money type bands, not the one that have done so many farewell tours.
Who gives a sh#t, why would anybody waste a weekend stomping around with a bunch of baby boomers on Sandy Beach. I can't hardly imagen anything less exciting than that. Now put on a concert, with Flatt and Scruggs, Boxcar Willie or Buck Owens, then I might go stomping around on Sandy Beach. Anybody that buys a ticket, would be better off in the long run, if it did turn out to be a fraud, at least they would just be wasting they're money and not they're time.

The wind finally quit here, the whole thing, just seems stupid......I can just see myself rolling around on the beach with laughter, when the three comedians from yesteryears, get on stage. Next time you're down lets drive up toward El Golfo and see if we can find any trace of La Frontera Oasis....... Its only about an hour from Lopez and that would probably explain everything.

We'd love to take a trip up there. I was trying to talk Daniel into going down this weekend, but I think we're going to wait until Presidents Day. Gotta do it before the water warms up again, because after that I have a date every single day with my beach chair, SPF 30, Sol FM 106.1, and Senor Coronas Claras.
So what happens to anyone who was foolish enough to block out dates in May to support Boomer Fest as they requested? Seems like they have lost all credibility at this point moving the dates to September just days after they announced $3,000 tickets would be going on sale.
www.boomerfestdays.com/
Our wonderful Boomer Fest Days website is a work in progress. Stay tuned for updates soon! 21 MAJOR RECORDING ARTISTS AND 3 COMEDY ACTS ...
I don't see where it says September?? It you look at the webpage where it was the VW bus at the top it says "24 top performing artists will be jumping.... to Boomer Fest in May...." Where are you seeing September? Could you share the link?? Maybe they need to update their graphics if they say September one place and May another.
Never mind- when I did the search I see it in the search results but not on the actual site.. When Google gives results it says September.. They need to fix their graphics on the website then.
Even if they manage to book any known artists, the agent who sells the show will no doubt hold the promoters/producers to certain attendance benchmarks. If they don't hit a minimum threshold, the agent will pull the artists performance from the lineup. Just watch for the cautionary fine print where it indicates that artist lineup may change without prior notice. Not what you want to read with a $600.00 starting price.
I agree with the previous person who said the lineup will consist of bands like Eddie Money. Count on seeing a lot of club acts that barely have any connection to the original band (Starship, Three Dog Night, Nazareth, etc.)
So is it common to announce something like this without everyone being signed up? I don't know the entertainment business but I know some people have said they do. Is it common or done sometimes to announce something like this and then set it up afterwards or ?? Does it make sense what I am asking. It is almost like they want to sell tickets first to fund the artists or wave money in their face.

Not really...it is frowned on in the industry to use the name of any artist that is not under contract. Well known festivals such as Coachella do sell tickets long before the lineup is announced, but they offer discounts for this and they have a proven track record of delivering. For a new festival, they should start slow with a one day event and build it over the next few years. I have no inside knowledge of what Boomer Fest Days is planning, but it looks to me like they want to pay the artist deposit (usually 50% of the guarantee) with money raised from either sponsorship deals or ticket sales. In my eyes, this is the same as a condo development funding their construction with buyers deposits.

As Disneynut mentioned previously, if this were a well-established promoter that was "buying" dates, maybe they could get away with announcing something without having everything in place. But a first time promoter trying to entice 24 big names to a place with no real, quick transportation in or out is ridiculous. Just the load-in, load-out would be a nightmare. You can't fly in all the equipment, staging that each act would require. They would have to be trucked across the border - another nightmare. This isn't like hiring a DJ and a band to play a wedding where they use the same sound system and just "plug in" their guitars.
Are there any sponsors yet? Doubtful. "Tostitos Presents . . . Boomer Fest"????? A big name sponsor with money to back it up isn't going to sign on without artists under contract either.
There was a phone number posted on the Facebook page for a few days when they had comments on there but now they removed it. I wish I would have copied it down. I have read some of the riders that artists give out on thesmokinggun.com and they are very demanding. I would imagine it would be very difficult to deliver all of that for 24 big names. Sometime when you have time to waste go and read some of the concert riders and you'll see what I am talking about.

I have not worked for a single artist that did not demand a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons hotel for the artist and upper management. Even the crew would need a Holiday Inn or Homewood Suites style hotel (which we don't have here). mis2810 is correct in her assumption that load-in and load-out would be a total nightmare and all of your equipment must clear customs. Trucks from the U.S. are not allowed to pull your gear in Mexico. In the past we have had Mexican trucks and drivers pulling our trailers filled with gear. This is a logistical nightmare. It can be done with the right people and the right budget, I just don't see how this could ever make a profit.
So the trucks would come to the border, cross, have to go through customs, then have Mexican trucks take the trailers to here? I guess the reverse would be true on the return. That would be very difficult.

Yes, they usually cross the border, clear customs and then transfer the trailer to a waiting truck that is registered in Mexico. For major U.S. bands, a tour of Mexico is usually Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. They have the large population base with the income to support the ticket price. I am sure most talent agents would scratch their heads about Rocky Point.
They have permits for these type of rigs that cross into mexico for instance the nascar series races in mexico and their trucks and trailers cross with all equipment.

You are correct, with a short tour (3 shows) it is easier and more cost efficient to hire local.

Looks like all the comments got removed, because there were a few of us asking hard questions and someone replying as "boomerfestdays" was answering, but generic and vague answers. Especially to the reason for the high cost, the lack of bands being announced, if they had any history of promoting concerts, city permits, travel issues, etc.
I guess they got tired of evading the questions, and deleted all the comments (or blocked me, I don't see any comments).
Also, this site lists where acts are playing worldwide, it is basically the bible of touring acts. http://www.pollstar.com/resultsCity.aspx?ID=68345&SearchBy=puerto penasco
nothing listed yet..
I think our friends are watching this site because today the graphics are updated and no longer say anything about May... They are using a freebee web server so if you just make a mistake when you type in their site you get a list of pages that haven't been published yet. If you click this link: http://www.boomerfestdays.com/index you see this is an error-landing page and then you can see the pages that aren't published yet. This will probably go away quick.
I dont know what the bigger HOAX is?! This or Manti Teo's fake girlfriend who died story???!!!!!! I'm going to say the Manti Teo story just because IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED and Manti Teo is actually a person in the spotlight. Sounds like the GOLDEN DOMER might be in on it or might be covering up something else bigger, he's gay.
Im not trying to hi-jack just wanted to point out how ridiculous this boomer days is by comparing it to another ridiculous HOAX that the whole nation believed!
Btw, I think the slang term for magic mushrooms is Boomers, pretty ironic dont you think?
It's just fascinating actually trying to guess what they are actually up to. Do they actually think that people are believing all the stuff they are putting out? Do they think people are that stupid? The hyperbole in their descriptions of this fantasy is outrageous and just plain silly. Only a narcissist could think it was good.
That is funny because I know a guy that was working with them doing stuff around their rented house. They paid him once and then it took months just to get partially paid. He is still owed money and they don't get back with him. Helping the local economy sounds kind of hypocritical since they won't even help those who are helping them. This is my first post. I don't like seeing that type of injustice where the poor are used to help the rich get richer.

Im sure the people from Liberty Cove would be first in line for BoomerFest! LOL FORMULA ONE TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMH
If it was Henry he probably told them "I'm out of checks but I'll get more checks next week after I close a big deal. And oh by the way can you do xx xx xx more also and I'll just pay you all on that next check?" It had to be Henry or his crew - anyone know what they looked like or what they were driving?
What if they're planning on bringing in a huge cruise ship with all of the performers on it and having most if not all the show on the ship? You could have rooms on the ship so that way you could provide a few RV sites and Boomerville the campground and still be cool. Is that doable?

Why do you sound so personally invested in this? To the point of asking about possible alternatives? You sound much more interested than just an average Boomer "fan". How are you proposing getting thousands of people back and forth from the cruise ship? Hovercraft? You realize the ship just can't pull right on up to Sandy Beach and drop anchor, right?
Huh? Maybe this thread has gone long enough... At this point I was trying to think of what the heck they'll think of next.. But I do like the hovercraft idea.

You better believe they care what we think, Melissa. Anyone who currently doesn't, should. This forum is about much more than the conversations we're having in the threads. There are tons people who don't want to jump into the fray, but are reading every word...for the same reason. What is said here, even what is argued about here, is important to anyone with an interest in Penasco.
P.S. Note to lurkers: ProAlliance Insurance has a Forum Lurker Special in January and again for the weekend of Feb 16th if you're coming to Taste of Penasco!

Welcome to the Forum, Michael. Stories of non-payment abound. Those of us who've been around the block a couple of times in Penasco know that every once in a while someone shows up talking a good game and plays on the good intentions of others and their desire to see something positive happen here. They don't last long, in fact, the damage they do stays with us longer than they do.
Nope, on second look one of them was the bouncer at Mamacitas for awhile. The balding guy on the right hangs aroung in the alley off Calle 13 I think. Guess they are just local color, similar to the photos of the waitresses and Malecon.
Someone has mention that the organizers of the boomer fest has not even applied for the permits with the municipality of Penasco, I would think that for such a big event that the promoters will have the permits in place before they even go out to the public saying it is happening and at least have 2 big names under their website.
One thing is for sure with or with out Boomer fest Rocky Point is starting to awaken again!!!!! and hopefully if this is a bust it will not make waves for the media to start putting down RP again!!!
Does anyone know what band or Boomer Rockers are on the first pic of gopenasco online page? GoPenasco Radio
1st pic is Thin Lizzy's current lineup, 2nd pic is Steven Adler, ex Guns n Roses drummer, currently in or out of rehab depending on the day.. GoPenasco Radio#
