Does any one know can you ride in the dunes North west of Rocky point Dunas Del Altar and how is the best way to get there from R.P.
mexicoruss
If you are talking about any dunes with in the biosphere of Pinacate the answer is no you cannot ride them. You can hike them and you access them at the visitors center at Pinacate 20 minutes North of town on 8.

There are massive dunes to ride on if you head west North west on the coastal highway towards El Golfo.

I have extensively ridden the dunes in the Pinacate Biosphere before there was a National Park. We used to trailer there from Cholla for a day of incredible crowd free riding. Mexicoruss is correct, head towards El Golfo and make sure you are out of the park zone.

Yes, I had that thought as well. The Biosphere is extensive and there are signs along the coastal highway. No idea where it ends, but yes there are some huge dunes out there. Crossed over in a Jeep years back when the coasta highway was still under construction. It is very, very isolated up there so if you go take great care. Getting lsot or disoriented in that area could have very serious consequences.

“One mile farther and I come to a second grave beside the road, nameless like the other, marked only with the dull blue-black stones of the badlands. I do not pause this time. The more often you stop the more difficult it is to continue. Stop too long and they cover you with rocks.”

If you go to the 1st railroad station and turn right (away from road) it will take you to some great dunes. We go several times a year and it is an easy ride. Maybe 30 miles round trip from cholla.

thanks for all the info. I am going down in a few weeks. Hey jellyfish what train station are you talking about?

There are 2 railroad stations along the road to El Golfo. It is hard to describe exactly where as we always go off road. Hopefully someone else can give you more exact directions. Good times.
