Well, getting outdone in the kayak, primarily because the better fishing for me is inaccessible, which is seriously F#$K!NG my competitive spirit, its like steroids in baseball or cycling. Im not able to compete on a level playing field and its eating me alive. Grouper being caught off Encanto and I can barely catch seaweed in Cholla. This is depressing, just saw this on FACEBOOK.
I dont know what the hell the name is, its a big ass hotel at the very end of las conchas, my highschool buddy Mike Kowall that owned Cafe Bistro on Freemont showed me where it was a couple years ago. There's giant trigger fish on that reef. Basically park in the dirt and head straight out from the place its at almost exactly a mile. Big waves if its windy though.

Joe...If you fall into a mid size pile of cash you could...buy a Santo Tomas lot back by me (there are a few at 15k with power and water you can drink from the tap),build the guest house with Carport and atv storage space first (maybe all you ever need) so for maybe 100 k you have 600 sq ft. dwell style casita that is built with Performwall. You drive down park the truck at your house,put the cooler on already beach trailer mounted Yak hooked to atv and hit the beach at high tide unload trailer and fish. When finished you click a line previously installed wench controller at a floating staked out buoy and pull kayak to atv. sort of a fun project to think about.....

When I was out there he was living in that big house in conchas with the swimming pool on the beach and all the palm trees around the houses in the compound. Take Freemont all the way past the turnoff to Conchas, go right on the road that goes to Playa Encanto, with you get there go right and follow it towards the hotel. You cant get to the hotel but you can park on the other side of it in the dirt and launch from there.
I may curse myself later but I will share my hints for getting to and fishing the end of las Conchas.
Step 1 - If you act like you belong there, the guards let you through. Even if you look like a hoodlum, they will probably let you through. Life has taught me that low level security guards are just in it to draw a check. Those guys probably get paid in animal crackers so they pretty much let anyone in ....
Step 2 - Do not attempt unless you have a sand worthy 4x4 or not afraid to walk great distances or spending half your day shoveling out your truck. Plenty of beer should be packed for the occasion in cases of emergency (You need someone to dig/pull you out).
Step 3 - Go to very end of las Conchas. Right before the entrance to Tessoro you can take a left.
Step 4 - Ignore the "Do not Enter" signs. Ehh, everyone else seems to. Go down and take a right at the road. It will take you down a steep sand bank into the estuary area. If you have doubts on the sand capability of your 4X4, proceed to back out before heading down the sand bank and fish elsewhere or pack plenty of beer for a good walk.
Step 5 - Once in the area take a right and head to the open water (Southwest). Park in a safe area based on the tide coming or going.
Step 6 - The tidal range can be significant. Keep a sharp eye out for stingrays in whatever direction looks promising to you (I will leave this up to you to figue out) Stingrays can be plentiful wading in and out of the area.
Good luck and have fun. Tides are an important key in timing in which I have yet to master completely in this area particularly if you want to fish the reef. This is one gnarly rock that will tear you up unless you have some good footwear.
If you see a Dark Red F-150 down there, feel free to share that extra beer you brought down in case of emergency.
That guy in the picture is me and that's by far the biggest fish I've ever caught. Just lucky this time.
We rented a house on Playa Encanto and I launched from there and paddled out about a mile. To launch from that side of the estuary, you could probably easily talk your way past the security guard. Just say "I'm staying with the Smiths" should be no problem. Or take the lower road to the oyster farm but that may be logistically more difficult: longer paddle, tides, wind can ruin your day. I paddled 2 miles out to the estuary against the wind and tide. Not fun.
Or make some friends in Las Conchas or Playa Encanto area. Then you can just drop their name/address to get in any time you want. How do you launch now? It seems like anywhere you went you've got to walk across some sand, etc.
Next time I go down I'd be happy to fish with you.
We never have a problem getting to the end of las Conchas or Playa Encanto. In las Conchas you can bypass the guards by taking the roads {trails} south of the city dump. Just remember, ATC's don't hurt people, PEOPLE on ATC's hurt people. ATC's are no more dangerous than whoever is at the controls. Learn how to ride, don't ride over your head, and its no more dangerous than riding a bicycle. I still have my Suzuki Quadzilla...
Mine puked up five or so little fish after I caught her. She was full of eggs so I felt kind of bad. She was delicious though.
catching a female fish full of eggs during spawning season is way better than catching and killing a male... female groupers can out-number the males in the population by as high as 100:1 ratio.
A successful spawning season depends way more on the males than it does the females- Each female can potentially release over a million eggs each year, and will spawn multiple times between late March and mid July...
so, don't feel too bad- that fish probably already spawned at least once this year, and maybe twice.
HEY How does that yak pull behind a jet ski? I launch in the harbor because it is easier. If you were out from shore out from Plya De Oro I could hook up to you and run down. Fish and bring you back. We stay in PDO space #50 so you could be our guest to use the ramp to launch.

Sounds like a trip to me. We will be going back down mid day 30th and hopefully the wind will let me fish Fri. Sat. and may be Sunday. With approval of my wife. She sometimes feels like a Jet ski widow.
