If you have T-Mobile as your carrier you are now in luck when in Penasco. The new international services will be available to existing Simple Choice customers for no additional cost over their current rate plans, and will work in over 100 countries across the world. In addition to the data and texting services, traveling customers will be able to place voice calls at a flat rate of 20 cents per minute while in those countries.
Great news, been with T-Mobile for several years and loved having their wireless calling feature that used plan minutes BUT no roaming charges here in Penasco.
if you have an unlimited data plan with T-Mobile, all you need is WIFI to take advantage of their free 'WIFI calling'. receive and make calls using WIFI.
I had T-Mobile several years ago, they lost me for good (at one time we had 8 contacts for our company)when after my 24 month contract was fullfilled they canceled the wifi calling without notice. So I went from my normal 80-100 per month bill to a 650 bill because calls that I thought were being made on wifi were in fact roaming internationally. After several weeks of discussing the situation they would not budge and billed me for the minutes claiming it was my responsibility to re verify my contract from time to time........ My TelCel is around 400 pesos a month on contract and works fine in the states as well I have learned to be careful on data roaming and intl calls.
I upgraded to an iphone with AT&T with the Viva Mexico plan. They told me to make sure the data is turned off in Mexico ( after after I bought it and went to the store with questions) when not needed because it is always updating email etc and use wifi when possible. It doesn't make sense to me. I need to check further into it. The Viva Mexico plan is $ 10..00 per month. Why have it if you can't use it. The international calling plan at AT&T is gone. It was only $5.00 per month but you did get roaming charges on calling the US.
