Today (11/20/2013) an announcement should be made regarding the company chosen for the construction of the breakwaters.
Rhino
Was the announcement made; if so where?
Terry C
Juan Montoya Hernandez Dias Rebar and Concrete co, SA.DE./FE :D

If you go to the reef you will notice the survey markers (just east of Wrecked at the Reef). I have also been told that wrecked at the reef will not be moving. It appears that only the eastern part of the building (around the men's restroom area) will be demolished. I am sure that Wrecked will be expanding West if needed. Construction should start soon.
Doug C.
Any info on the fate of the RV Park? If construction is on the East side will the park remain open?

Doug
Roberto
Drove out there yesterday adn there is no obvious sign of cnstruction activity that I could see. Still people in RVs on the beach area, no heavy equipment evident. Does not mean it is not happening just that they are not rockin and rollin yet.

May they do a wonderful job and may it bring prosperity to Penasco. If done correctly it can remain a wonderful place to be and bring jobs to those that live there. Nothing ever stays the same no matter how we wish it to - the Penasco of my 40s disappeared so many decades ago - and yet my Penasco of this decade has brought its own beauty to Penasco. A place to always hold my heart and thoughts.

AWESOME! Those are great pics. I'ts incredible to see all the different websites out there posting the progress of the Home Port. It's nice to see the cruise ship home port process physically begin.

Nine days ago I went out there & the surveyors were doing there thing big time in that area. Man they are not wasting anytime. I went out there today & they are now tearing down block fence's, pulling hundreds of yards of barb wire fencing, staking markers all over the place. SBR told me they have to make room for all the trucks & equipment.

Exciting times my friends. This will be Mexico's ONLY cruise ship home port. This is huge for RP. Cant wait to take the first cruise from RP!

Excellent video Playa! I knew somebody could back me up. Pause the video at the 1:05 mark & AMAZING there are the 15 to 20 palm trees east of Wrecked that were always there that a couple of people on this forum accused me of fabricating their existence. Hmmm now we have the proof that they were all there & now removed. I only report what I see. I see progress and I report it..

Now we can all believe it. Thank you for the pictures.

Question, Is the reef rv park still there we were coming for New Years and planning on staying there?

Today I saw apx 3 motorhomes camping in RV area west of Wrecked & apx 4 campers east of Wrecked. Appears that RV area , Wrecked & Mar Blu is business as usual. Id imagine that they will be active for some time as it will take some time ( 1 or 2 years? ) to complete the pier, etc..

There are still lots of RVs stored there and people in the park. I looked for a phone number with no success, maybe someone will have it.

Thank You

I have reservations for 30 RVs at the Reef for March, they should not be affected by the work too much, after this season I think say Bye bye to the Reef RV park, we'll see
dry heat
much of the work is taking place on the east side Wrecked. I would say that the west side of the reef park will be operational for some time. Not sure if you park east of the buildings.

Sadly it looks like camping and day use of Sandy beach will end. Time to get a Rhino and find another beach close to Cholla and go exploring again.

What will get finished first, the home port break wall or phase 3 at Las Palomas?

I think because of the Home Port phase 3 will be completed, this is getting a lot of attention worldwide

Great informative article Dry Heat...Note in the article it says the breakwater will extend out 1290 meters. I was told by the developer that the 1290 meters is the total length of the entire breakwater which means it would extend straight out apx 800 meters due south from the beach then another apx 490 meters west to complete its "L" shape.

"Statendam" Arrives For Guaymas Holiday ...

image
Guaymenses live a holiday yesterday, with the arrival of more than 1800 visitors aboard the cruise ship "Statendam" who had, once again, warm welcome

From 7 in the morning people came to the Malecon Tourism to witness the arrival of ship "Statendam", the atmosphere felt festive despite the bitter cold that was felt on Monday morning.

At 7:30 pm the bow stuck in the Bay of Guaymas, later arriving at International Cruise Center with over 1,800 passengers, who were pleased with the reception they were prepared, with music by the Marching Band " Fine Arts "and folk ballet" Guaima ".

The joy was in the air, several tourists commented how beautiful Guaymas, others said they have returned several times and will return as often as they can, some of the passengers came from Germany, Chicago, California and Austria.

Among the points that had been scheduled visit, was the route to San Carlos, the historical area of Guaymas and outlets in different parts of the city such as Plaza Gun and the Malecon Tourism.

By 11 am the ceremonial reception among both state and municipal authorities was conducted with Captain Sybe Boer, the ship "Statendam" where acknowledgments were exchanged and impressions.

The general coordinator of the Commission for Tourism Development (Cofetur), Javier Tapia Camou said the hard work was done by the State Government in conjunction with the mayor of Guaymas, Otto Claussen Iberri, that was achieved back cruises , as a tourist spot is considered of great importance.

"We are happy to be here the first cruise of the 14 that we will be getting the next 2014, Guaymas is safe, it's so we could get back cruises, this for us guaymenses is an important economic impact of more than 2 million pesos, "said the Mayor.

Yes, he used to post to other threads using that moniker as well and added "Attorney at Law" until I send him a message pointing out that he might have a serious legal problem by claiming that:eek::eek::eek: He thanked me for that !!

and again a thread about the 'cruise port' turns into a thread about a former forum member. In a way he is accomplishing his goal. Just like the other thread, eventually 50% of the info is nonsense.

Dry heat are you concerned about the effects of the terminal on the beach in front of your place. It also seems to me "a Northerner" will fill the channel with sand fast.
dry heat
I am concerned about the eroding effect of the beach with such a drastic change in the landscape. That being said, I know that an exhausting research and engineering study went on for a couple of years. As we know though, eventually the study with a higher economic impact will usually win (for good or bad). I just hope we don't have an Australian problem with the port. I do think that many are not realizing the amount of money that northern mexico will make over the next decade or so. lots of businesses setting up shop in the northern states. this eventually leads to a need for a cruise port. Eventually the national market will be the target (rather than the US market).
JoseAz
Is the work progressing well? We would appreciate a photo update on occasion.
Thanks and Happy New Year!
tmotsinger
I was out there Sunday, and nothing new had been done. Just the slightly improved access roadbed, the half-wrecked Wrecked wall, and those few boulders they brought in for the groundbreaking photo op.

In Mexico, business seems to come to a complete stop during the last 2 weeks of December. Hopefully we will see activity in January.
wildtoucan
Read that it is to commence jan 7th. Workers are arriving and and being set up in condo rentals.
PintoPoint
They are adding new road bed on the old Cholla road starting from SBR's office. I am not sure if it is for the big trucks or continuation of the new road at the convension center.

I would think that the cruise port would require a larger road than the one in front of the condos.

And a road to bypass Sonoyta......

Beach erosion will create big problems for people owning beachfront homes. The Mexican government is constantly monitoring it and moves the fed zone accordingly. Most homes are built right on the edge of the fed zone and when they move it in your home is built on the fed zone causing your property taxes to triple basically forever. Not to mention the cost of a seawall to protect your home.

spent the afternoon at Wrecked on Saturday afternoon. noticed a lot of activity, mainly the dumping of rock over and over again. I was amazed how many people just stood around looking at the dump trucks unload the rock. I guess that is entertainment for some or maybe disbelief that work is actually taking place.
