Thinking about building one of these myself while my friend and master builder Pete is still alive up in NM. build don a trailer, would maybe pass as an RV at the border and could be brought down and set up permanently.
I have a few friends that have built using containers. I think they spent about 1.5 times the amount it would have cost to just build conventionally. I personally think the containers are cool but there is a ton of retro fitting required to make them habitable.
I just am finishing off this "minimalist on the cheap" homestead for the sister in law at our ranch.1973 Airstream gutted and turned into one big room with raised bed,bar

finished the bath and shower trailer for our little brokster guests compound...stripped out Airstream turned to open plan bedroom/living room cost 1500...deck with 12' by 10' shed kitchen/futon equipped room on deck cost maybe 2k....really nice inside shower/sink and toilet on 5 bye 8 trailer cost 1k. The trailer hook into existing septic but having bath on trailer solves zoning trouble. A friend doing a container said he would never do it again.
http://puertolobos.com/paredonesProyecto.html I like the drawings but do not see the advantage over having the guys in Ejido Alvaro obregon provide burnt adobe, the lobos guys provide the black lava rock and get some pine beams from the mountains....organic man....
