Jerry, What are people treating jellyfish stings with? I've heard the sting from a man of war is really bad.

Really hurts...I went back in water at a place down the beach and rubbed the area....welts did not develop like other people had after trying the usual remedies.

If I was there, I would of pee 'ed on it for you. I don't care what others think, use or do for the sting, but I have a bottle of pee ready when I go in the water. Its the only thing that I found that works fast. No joke. If it can take a screaming young kids pain away in under 3 min. and leave no marks from the stings, Ill stand by it for the rest of my life.

Nice haul of fish! What were you fishing with? Those stings are no fun at all

Great little feast there Jerry!

That corvina looks huge! Any idea of it's length or weight?

Thanks Larry, it was a fat one a bit less than two feet....lots of fish tacos but to my mind the Pompanos tasted better

Wish I could get into a mess of Pompanos like that! That fish is still on my "to catch" list

I was surprised how good the Pompano tasted.

Those aren't leatherjacks? Nice Corvina!
ckyevanjay
Good point those do look just like the big eye Leatherjacks I caught. I know there are multiple pompano species so we need some experts to weigh in!

It's probably just semantics and local naming conventions, as long as they keep biting the hook and there's beer available I could care less, just trying to speak the same idioma :D

Couldn't agree more.

I have eaten a leatherjack before, a bit oily but good. Did not know they had venomous parts of them.

The big one is a Corvina and the little ones have barbs on their backs...not Corvina for sure

Jerry, the day we went to your house , the ejiditarios took us to a beach south of Lobos, where they had built a road from the highway to a rv park they had started to work on, there were a couple pangas setting nets, and fish everywhere..Anyway the beach looks similar and wondered if it was where the ejido started to work. Wish I could go..

In my ignorance, I used to have my pompano fileted and after broiling it, thought it was a bit fishy tasting. Then, my shrimp guy on the Melecon told me to deep fry the entire fish. I had it done at Mary's and I couldn't believe how white, mild & flaky a pompano could be. Really good!

As mentioned - long skinny one is a ladyfish. A blast to catch on light tackle, pretty worthless as tablefare. Related to tarpon, believe it or not.
