That's no fun. But hasn't been like that for a number of years?
I remember staying there back in 2004 and it was like that then.

The past 1-2 years the flies have been so bad that they even were a problem in Cholla and usually it's too far west for them pests.
When we were there 2 weeks ago not much of a problem, we only kept the doors and windows with screens open.
The cooler weather will slow them down in a few weeks.

Yeah, it's absolutely crazy. I don't mind batting a few here and there, but I counted over twenty carcasses next to my chair, while continuing flipping the swatter non - stop within a 5 minute frenzy.

I'm looking forward to this.

They are on sandy beach too...some bite. Seems worse since wind picked up.

Yes! I forgot to mention they bite. I seem to smack them much harder when I feel the little pricks take a teenie chomp on me, so I end up with a sting from a fly and a smart smack from my hand.

New blood suckin' little shit eaters..........

They were the worst ever in Yuma until the cool weather slowed them down.

They are Horn Flies that normally suck blood from cattle and horses and their cute little maggot babies eat fresh cattle and horse shit.

They have recently evolved to using dogs and dog shit as their new lifestyle host. The females have a long blood sucking affair that can pass through short dog fur. They are so numerous the my dogs finally give up and just sit there and let em suck away. They are now feeding on human blood and their bite is as painful as a Deer Fly bite. They are stupid little blood suckers as you can almost always swat and kill em with your hand, after they get you.

I lived in Yuma for 3 years back in late 70's early 80's. I remember them pesky things.
