You know I have to wonder when this decline in Mexico really started. Was is just the war on drugs? Or even broader political policies of the Reagan administration that has turned Mexico into something resembling waring tribes in Africa?

I mean these things read almost the same, names of Vigilante leaders that then become politically motivated.

There is a wealth of info on the net about this situation. Start at Borderlandbeat.com a reputable source for information in Mexico which is sometimes overlooked by the US media.

This general should be a national hero but he will prolly be incarcerated again soon.

Interesting thing I had wanted to bring up...

The last time we where down I interacted with some of the army guys crammed in the back of a pick up patrolling the streets at night.

I am no expert on the matter but none appeared to be locals. They all looked more "Indian" than the local population.
They probably joined because of all the obvious reasons, or the only obvious reason but($), but does this help contribute to the disconnect and ultimately the mistrust within the populous.
Everyone just looks at it as doing their shitty jobs and aren't doing it for the good of the country.
There seems to be the same lack of a national identity that I believe we have in the US that more or less pits everyone against everyone.
