Had a decent corvina bite last week over @ La Pinta estuary. Plus a couple flatties thrown in for a good meal. Fed 11 people within an hour of pulling these babies out of the water. YUM!!!comp98corvina.JPG

What a great catch!

That would definitely be quite a feast for several people.

Parrot, what were you using to catch these, lead or bait, or both ?

Thanks.

Tell those fish to hang out another couple weeks, till I get there! LOL. Awesome looking fish.

Beautiful! I'm late to the post but will be down there next week. How is the road out to La Pinta these days? Can I make it in my Japanese compact?
Parrothead Pescador
No problemo, the dirt road is great. The pavement on the Caborca hiway will swallow your compact however! Potholes bigger than a VW.

Close to Pinta, but off the beaches, standing about waist deep and casting. Bite was AWESOME on the calm days. Friday and Sunday didn't get much :/

anyone seeing bait fish running through the shores like this time last year?
apricot
On Sandy Beach, yes. Saw them about this same exact time last year. There are so many of them, it almost looks like an oil slick. There's got to be millions of them in those huge black blobs.

Where exactly is La Pinta ?
ckyevanjay
i was crushing corvina and leatherjacks just casting iron behind the bait balls and then slowly working the iron through them. That was this time last year. Hope to see them on the las conchas side when i show up on Thursday

Not nearly as much as last year down south, but they're still around. Hopefully it's good around Conchas for ya!

Did you head out to inspect them? We saw one huge DARK black blob about 150 yards off shore so I paddled out to it in the yak. It turned out to be THOUSANDS of those blue jellyfish!!! Just a big blue ball of terror rolling down the coast and dumping a few off every so often like an alien mob in Space Invaders. Needless to say, once I realized what it was, I turned around very cautiously and paddled back quickly.

Yes, last week they were about a foot from shore on Sandy Beach. We first noticed them from our 14th floor unit. Went out to take a look and they were tiny bait fish.

Good to hear! :)

There are millions of small fish in the water, and at sunset last Saturday, you could see the larger fish swim at the surface in a line, presumably with their mount open just gobbling them up. Also tons at La Pinta.

Kayak corvina.

Joe, how'd you like to hook into a little school of these fellas ?

Mexico Joe
That's insane
