The outboard on my 1997 23' Wellcraft "Murphy Girl" died in November, so I started searching for a newer, bigger and faster boat to fish the Sea of Cortez. I decided to purchase a 2005 Cobia 274 center console in Massachusetts. The boat is 27’-6” long, 8’-6” beam, holds 200 gallons fuel, has twin 225 hp Yamaha 4-stroke fuel injected outboards with only 250 hours.
The boat has the following options and upgrades:
I had the boat and motors inspected in MA and everything passed with flying colors. The boat cruises from 24-30 mph at 3200 - 3800 rpm. Wide open throttle is about 55 mph with medium load. The boat gets 1.5 mpg or better when loaded. In calm seas with medium load, the boat can get 2 mpg. It is a serious fishing machine and I couldn't be happier. We haven't picked a new name for her yet, so she will be "Elizabeth Jane" for awhile.
Now that is a great boat and it is loaded. I sure you will very happy to have that.

When I got my boat a couple years ago went online to search for boat names, and noticed most boat names are feminine. Which may be part of the reason I was really tempted to name the boat "Harvey Dockbanger", for some reason really liked that name, thought it was really different and amusing. Didn't know at the time, but now that a couple years have past it probably would've been a very appropriate name, since my boat has dual counter-rotating props, which provides maximum thrust for forward movement, but its nearly impossible to back up in a little wind, doesn't matter which way you turn the steering sometimes the boat has a mind of its own, and therefore I've love-tapped the docks at Safe Marina a couple times. But thinking "Harvey Dockbanger" was a little too "vulgar", instead played safe and went for "Amante", which in Spanish means "mistress", thankfully my girlfriend really liked it. Good luck on naming yours, Shawno, always alot of fun!

Mercy!! What a sweet outfit you have there Shawno! I am so jealous. It looked mighty fine out on the caballo the last weekend of March and based on your report it is one very efficient fishing machine. I wish you many years of tight lines and flat water while enjoying that awesome rigged watercraft. I would have bet she was only a couple years old looking at her and seeing the pics. Let me know if you ever have room for a rookie who loves to fish and doesn't mind paying his share of expenses. Now go rip some lips!
There is a boat parked along the main road in Unconscious that has almost exactly the same profile but definately not that make. I think is says Sea Ray on the side of the boat. I believe it is for sale. I heard that one of the engines had failed. I'll get a pic and some info as it is owned by a friend of a friend if anyone is interested. I think the owner is motivated.
