Border In

Came in Wednesday around 1:30. After a brief stop at Ueta crossed over. No cars ahead or behind us.

Stopped by two very friendly inspector guys, Took a cursory look inside the back seat, opened the cooler for about a two second look and waived us on thru. Piece of cake. Kind of pissed me off after going through all the effort to hide all the contraband and the RPG Launcher I brought in for the Saturday showdown in the alley at Calle 13.

Great to see the Sea of Cortes again.

We crossed Thursday about 5:30pm. Just had to wait behind a big RV and 2-3 cars. While the RV was being processed, a Mexico customs guys came to our vehicle on foot. He didn't seem to care at all about what we were bringing in but *did* ask to see the vehicle registration, which hasn't happened to me in a while.

In the last year or so, in Nogales I've seen an explosion of those rogue license plates that aren't from any government agency but say CONDEFA or something else- my wife says they are associations that lobby to allow poorer Mexicans to have cars that have not been legally imported to the US. But I think its gotten out of control so maybe Mexico is going to start cracking down again?

One last note: the Mexico inspection lanes (where you wait for the traffic light) were torn up on the sides for some apparent construction. This wouldn't be that notable except that in Nogales they are doing what appears to be the exact same construction. So I imagine that there is some new type of technology/controls that are being implemented at all the border crossings.

Hey GV Jack , have you ever tried cutting thru the reservation to avoid Valencia on the way to Penasco? All the construction and traffic is driving me nuts. I have tried the back road to Three Corner but that seemed along way out.

Hey Mary, I have to confess that I am a dumb old dog. We took off from GV, went up Irvington to Mission to Ajo and then on. We went to the Three Corner Restaurant, ate and reached for my wallet and guess what. It was safely tucked away in my dresser in GV. My wife dutifully went back to the house from the car wash and met me at the casino with ally my needed possessions. We then headed out Ajo to Why. Ajo was under construction for a great deal of time. No, I have never gone through the reservation, although it looks like I may have been scalped. I don't think there is any good way right now.

Every time we go down, it seem to take longer and longer. Maybe it is because we now drive closer to the speed limit and do not pass everything on the road.
