Using this map-o Homeport dreaming as a visual aid......The story....second time this month I have heard from people that there is a plan in the works to cut a canal from the Homeport area around Cholla bay turning it into an island and allowing boats to pass throug to moorings on each side.....anyone heard those? I got it from a Agua Prieta attorney...

That would be great, except for when Cholla Bay empties out like a can of Pacifico on a fishing trip with me.

I simply see no advantage to doing that. Cholla Bay is so shallow to begin with. Have you ever launched a boat there, Jerry? They have to drag you practically half way out in the bay until you float off the trailer.

Sounded weird to me too but second time I heard it.....homeport panic maybe...trying to build support? A Gus Brown amusement park is in the mix too.

Years ago they talked about a residential marina which would be controlled by a lock system on the port side. This would keep the residential marina full while the tides rise and fall.

Last time I met with SBR's, Ray Taylor (10 years ago) he showed me the master plan for Sandy Beach and Cholla Bay.

After 10 years it doesn't look anything like this, they did start the channel, but ended up using the 200 feet
they dredged out for a water source to water the road down, but it's unused now as the resorts water recycling system supplies that now.
You can see it from the Cholla road, maybe 500-1000 feet west of the entrance to Wrecked on the Reef.

What I heard is they are folding this, the homeport and an amendment park all into a private/public partnership...like a slow mo train wreck!

I've heard this too. What I've also heard, but have not confirmed is if Cholla was turned into an island it would somehow change the status or zoning of the area and nullify the trust that are currently in place in Cholla. Again, not confirmed, and not sure what the federal law is regarding trust for non-national ownership of island property. But like brokenwave says, nothing has happened in 10 years, probably won't anytime soon.

There are so many pipe dream projects in Mexico (and many other places) that fail soon after the concept stage.
Or get started only to fail after the investor $$ evaporate or poor planning and follow through.
All the unfinished projects from large to small houses, litter the landscape all around RP.

Ex. Look at Gus Browns place on Pelican point, it's been 15 years since he built it, lived in it for a bit,
moved out of it and currently has been doing a major renovation on it for many years now.

The last 10 years has seen a major change in the dynamic's of tourism here and the current noise from DC isn't going to help it.

Those are a couple of the reasons, I don't have a lot of confidence in this happening in the next 20 years.

I still wanna see the Grand Prix racetrack at Liberty Cove. And oh yeah, the big international style Monte Carlo Casino! Almost forgot about that dream!

Years ago, I took a charter panga out of San Jorge to go out and fish the island. A guy had set up this trip for me and met me there. I didn't realize there was a sales pitch involved, but oh yeah, there was. Into a little trailer near the beach, big artist conception drawing on the wall showing beautiful beach homes and a marina! I could buy RIGHT NOW, CHEAP and be a part of this fabulous destination resort and have my own home at the beach! I politely declined, where's the damned panga?

Geez, that was... 30 years ago now, easily? And last time I was at San Jorge, it looked no different today than it did those 30 years ago.

Don't tell anyone but years ago I went to a Trump wealth seminar and one of the vendors was from Liberty Cove. They had a pretty convincing sales pitch and they told me
I could invest using my 401K. I passed. At the same seminar there were guys selling living trusts that were just fill in the blank PDF's. People were standing in line to pay 3K for a CD. People will buy anything if you have a good story.

Ain't THAT the truth!

Not me, though. Color me a jaded, skeptical asshole when it comes to investing in anything in Mexico. I mean, I can see myself eventually owning a small casita somewhere, maybe San Carlos. But, it would never be anything I couldn't afford to lose if I suddenly had to walk away from it due to changes in the political winds (or whatever). Almost did that several years ago. An older couple had a nice little home in San Carlos and were selling it due to their age; they simply couldn't make the drive back and forth to Oregon anymore. I still kick myself in the shorts for missing that opportunity. The price was excellent, but the timing wasn't right for me. Someday!

For me it was slow and steady. I bought the land paid it off and have been building on it with cash as I get it. All free and clear. I should be done just in time to retire.

Wow!

Turn La Cholla into an island?

Well folks the funny thing is that it was in fact an island-a couple thousand years ago. A few feet of sea level drop allowed the dune to build up between Isla La Cholla and Sea Lion Bluff (Whale Hill) and that is where we are today.

Don't forget the toll fees that ??? will be getting for crossing the draw bridge to and from Isla La Cholla.

GV Jack used to catch giant prehistoric sharks that would swim through the channel there.
