Deterring a thieving Sea Lion with a pellet gun

This could be an unpopular thread. I love Sea Lions and truly enjoy taking people to Bird Island to watch and snorkel with them. However, that love ends when they continually steal our fish, burn out our drags and follow us from rock pile to rock pile like we are a travelling smorgasbord. I got the idea that a little sting from a pellet gun might deter them and by golly it works! Still need to try it on some of the huge males who tend to be more aggressive.
