Hi Ric

I see you are on line ! Hope you refresh before leaving.
You know the unit you have is out of my league. Knowing what you know and staying within my $ 1000.00 limit what would you do. I have a Hummingbird 565 fishfinder I can use for a while if you think it will work in the ocean where we will be fishing. I consider it a lake unit.

Just a thought, Bill. I had a Humminbird that went to 1500 ft. I really liked it for it's simplicity and ease of use. I'm color blind, so color isn't much use to me. Their warranty is great, and they stand behind their product. I also found from my own experience, that once you get over 600' you're in deep water. Unless you're going after giant squid that can only be found below 1200 ft. I would think the 565 would be sufficient. They advertize reliable performance to 800 ft. but they'll go deeper. I think you can get one that will go to 1500 ft. for under $300.00. If it were me, I'd just go with the 565 unless I found it was deficient in some way.
