List of New Businesses/Old Ones Reopened and/or Now Closed

I know there was a thread started on closed businesses over winter, but hey--a lot has happened since then!

We all know Manny's is open for March. And the Thirsty Parrot closed, but will reopen as The Joint in the old Portofino location next to Flavio's in the fish market. Is that ready yet or far from it? And any of you locals care to add what is 100% open (but was rumored to be closing) or what is 100% closed?

Thanks!

The Wreck at the Reef has moved into their new quarters next to Mare Blu. We heard that an upscale Mexican Restaurant is/was going to open up in the space above Mare Blu. Has anyone heard anything about that?

Stopped by the new Wrecked at the Reff....nice setup. The bartender also mentioned the new Mexican restaurant opening upstairs next door...where the Wrecked had been located. Didn't say how "upscale" it would be...

Did he indicate when it would be opening? If same management/owner as Mare Blu would think it would be very good.

Rob, if you swing by again, could you make a note of the name of the new place below Debbie's? Thanx!

The menu from the place below Debbies said Chili Peppers. The waiter said it was the same place as the Restruant by same name that was next to Max's.. The all you can drink I think (it was after leaving the Malecon when I saw the sign) was $20.00 and it was for a nightly wrist band.

The original owner of Perico Marinero, in the fish market, re-opened it, hopefully they will have the Jaiba platter, to die for but not by bullets as in calle 13!!

Hi all:)

New to this site, and I'm really happy I found it!

Manny's opened last Thursday. Nobody was there except for two of us, but it was good to see it up and running. Bartenders Sergio and Antonio told us that they would stay open through Labor Day. We hope so, but Manny does what he wants...

We went to a special party to preview Mi Familia, upstairs from Mare Blu last Thursday. The enchiladas were good, the menu which I viewed, but was not available, was a different kind of Mexican food, which we're ready to try in a couple of weeks. The restaurant is really beautiful, and on the same level as Mare Blu.

Our leased condo at Las Palomas this winter was a huge disappointment regarding services, but that's a topic for another thread apparently. Bottom line: No food, no beverage service, No restaurants, no bars, no Room Service for the last 8 weeks. They let go 175 employees but that's documented in RP Times in March. They are all still closed as of today.

We found Rincon de Regina re-opened as Mezon de Regina on No Reeleccion near Rossy's. They're open for breakfast and lunch. I hope that Matilde can resume the flaming coffee show and the Molcajete soon. We ate there twice for lunch, and the food is great!

Porto Mio is moving along, the Malecon has no access, but the large free parking lot is still available via an entrance a block or two back from the main street.

Bodega Aurrera (WalMart) opened last Friday. The parking lot was PACKED! I feel bad for Santa Fe across the street. Super Ley will probably take a hit too.

Hope Spring Break is good to the town. It needs it!

Ciao...

Joe, thanks for all the info. And great news about Manny's, hope business continues; it's not like he has as much competition in the area as before.

Okay - do you know when Mi Familia is going to open? I would guess that they would like to gather in some of the Spring Break crowd. You mentioned the enchiladas were good - what would you compare them to? My DH loves cheese enchiladas but hasn't been too impressed with the ones he has had so far. I had great mole at Ramon's Cocina and so-so mole at Ramons at Sonoran Sea. Appreciated your review.

Re Super Ley - we were there yesterday and it seemed different - spruced up, etc. Eggs were actually clean and refrigerated. Quite a few people shopping. Think Super Ley figured they had better make more effort since there was additional competition in town.
