Hi
This may sound like a dumb question but I need to make sure. Can you withdraw funds at a ATM machine in Rocky Point using US and Canadian ATM cards, from a US and Canadian account?

Do you have to option of taking dollars or peso's?
Thanks

Yes you can use US cards - don't know about Canadian. There is one ATM that gives US dollars - it is on Fremont Street but not sure exactly where. Others give pesos.

I've had good experiences with Banamex and exchange rates so far in the last six months. Banamex is connected to Citi in the states and Citi also has another connection to Bank of Canada.

The corner of Fremont and Sinaloa(Capones, my UN favorite place is on it).....across the street from the Pemex.....you can choose pesos or US dollars.....

I've always heard that you have to have a 4 digit PIN otherwise the machine will eat your card.

Banorte on Fremont has an atm that does $$ and pesos. (It has instructions in English and Spanish) I got charged 38 pesos ($3) last time for transaction fee.
Giving you back your card is the finishes your transaction And the fee it's the same for all transactions I believe.

if your account in the u.s. is with bank of america, you can use ANY Santander, Serfin, or Scotia bank in Mexico, with no service charge. After @ 25 years of traveling all over this country, we have never had a problem using ATM's (except that they often run out of money--especially in smaller towns, and on weekends)--also found that the exchange rate changes via the computer controlling the ATM, so is often more updated than using the teller at the same bank (this involves a long, boring story about a brother-in-law who didn't trust the ATM and was convinced that the teller would give him the most up-to-date exchange rate---which did NOT happen-lol). If you are very concerned, always ask for a receipt, so you can compare changing exchange rates, and also use to contest any errors that may occur

Use the ATM, the exchange rate is usually a bit better than what is posted at the bank. I have gotten up to a 10% better exchange rate
than the rate listed at stores by getting peso's from the atm. There are only a few places where I will use dollars now,
the exchange rates vary way too much, 5-8% (not in my favor).

Yes if you don't have a 4 digit code. you can not withdraw funds from a ATM in another country. (at least that is what my bank told me)

Canadian ATM cards work, just the same as US. I have both but use my Canadian bank for Pesos, that way I avoid transferring Canadian to US to Pesos, with the attendant bank skimming on each conversion.
I did use the bank on the south side of freement (at Dominguez, I think) and had bad results. My card was frozen twice after trying there....I called my Can bank and they reset it and have now been using Bancomer with success and no security lock up.
Chip cards seem to cause more hiccups....and that is what I have.

Is there a Santander bank in Puerto Penasco? We can always change banks if need be, but we have a transfer set up with Wells Fargo and Santander that's free and convenient..

There is a Santander on Benito Juarez just passed the railroad tracks on the left side if you're going south.

My ATM experience over the last couple of weeks:

10/26 Banorte (on Fremont) - total fees = $38.85 pesos (12.96 exchange rate)
10/31 Banamex (on Benito Juarez) - total fees = $27.75 pesos (13.06 exchange rate)
11/12 Bancomer (on Fremont) - total fees = $22.62 pesos (13.09 exchange rate)

Note the exchange rates are what I actually got. Not what was posted at the bank. It was between the buy and sell listed on the sign, but closer to the higher number.

I have an app on my phone I check and not that it makes a huge difference but when its a better exchange rate I go to the ATM at the Bancomer on Fremont and withdraw funds and it has always equalled or bettered the rate I thought I was going to get. #my2cents
