Blanco y Negro Ball

Last night DH, friends and I managed to get out of our beach clothes and got all gussied up to attend the Blanco y Negro Ball - the major charity event in Mexico. The Mayor's wife, who headed up the function, did a fantastic job. It was a great turnout, especially considering the size of Penasco. All the women looked beautiful in their formal gowns and the men all looked amazing in suits and ties (not a sight one sees very often). We were lucky enough to put some faces to names on the RP Talk as Rosie was busy making sure everyone met everyone else and insuring that we felt very welcomed.

Next year you might want to consider putting it on your calendar - not only does it help the children of Penasco but it gives you a non-tourist insight into the wonderful community that is Penasco.

If you don't speak Spanish it really doesn't matter because the band, while excellent, was a little on the loud side. But heck, you are there for the great fun of people watching, dancing, and giving to charity while enjoying yourself. My DH wasn't going to stay long - we ended up staying much longer then he anticipated and my 79 year old DH had me out on the dance floor to salsa music. He hasn't lost his dancing touch either.

I couldn't agree more. It was fantastic! But, I'm just now waking up, we stayed TOO late! It was a pleasure meeting everyone!

El Gato rarely lets us sleep in - he is like a two year old with the feeding timetable. We did manage until 6:30 this morning. An almost unheard of feat! And a good thing as we aren't used to staying up that late dancing :)

So glad you all had a great time. Gato, you hit the nail on the head...events like this one show that there's much more to this community that what most tourists ever see. Last night was the 36th year of this event. In 1986 the event had the first-ever (and so far the only) American named as Reina del Blanco y Negro when Cindy Hall, of Latitude 31 was selected.

Thanks for joining us last night...you all looked beautiful!

Gracias, Bill. Enjoyed that chance to talk with you and Favi. It's always nice to see Estero and his date and I also had much to talk about. Next time Chari said they'd be there, so the forum group attendance will surely grow. Roberto...I would've loved to have you there, too.

Rosie was a fantastic hostess, introducing my hubby and I to so many wonderful people. I feel like we made a lot of new friends. And yes, Rosie looked gorgeous!

Bill And Favi were a blast to hang out with, just as I suspected! Now I really feel like you're my Tio!

I fed our kitty and ran straight back to bed! LOL

How does a person find out about this wonderful event? We didn't know about it but would have gone!
Sorry you didn't know. I posted in this forum almost two months ago and have been announcing it every weekend on my radio show and inviting everyone I run into. Aside from that, it was announced at Uncommon Women's October and November meeting and I believe the Mariposas monthly meeting in October. Don't know if it was included in rockypoint360.com, but they usually do a good job at listing upcoming events. Let us know how we can help keep you better informed for future events!

For example...the Mermaid Market sounds like it'll be fun.

I just discovered this forum a couple of weeks ago. I will be on it from now on so will know whatever is on here!! Thanks!!!

I'm a newbie of just over a year now and loved this forum for the info and good people you can meet (but just remember as with all online forums comes the crazy factor) So enjoy the people and potential new friends (but ignore the bouts of crazy that some random ones might throw out).... good people here and information when you sift thru the random .. Puerto Penasco is a beautiful town and a great place to call home! Welcome @sheep3mom!

We posted it on our HOA newsletter and I think I remember reading about it on Jim R, Sonoran monthly newsletter. Jim does an excellent job and you don't have to be part of the Sonoran group in order to be signed up for it.

The event was a great time and Rosy was a great host!! It was an interesting perspective of Penasco that not too many Gringos get to see or experience. Highly recommended! Note to self...4:30 in the morning is wayyyy past my curfew.

Here is a short clip of the Blanco Y Negro
