Met the late Glendon Sikes daughter and Husband (Georgie and Jack) at a party Saturday.George (seen in these pictures from 1945-85) is now 85 and still full of life. Hthen teenaged dad homesteaded 200 acres in Tucson in 1895 on Ruthrauff road. He sold some for 100 bucks an acre in 1945...used his "fortune" in 1946 to buy a boat and cut a deal with the Mexican guy that owned the store in Cholla (who later got the boot from Brown) to build a shack and a garage for the boat. The kids always thought he loved the boat more than them because it had windows in it's house. He would leave his truck with the keys in it at high tide line and head to the other side for a week of fishing. The Mexicans would move it if needed.

Here's a picture of my Dad and Uncle Teddy at Cholla Bay in May of 55 and the boat we hauled down till 61. The store was Nachos place, as were the huts we stayed in. Us kid didn't go down till 56, that was after we moved to Phoenix.
Man I love Nachos store, it was where all us kids bought our firecracrakers.:woo:

Some of our enternainment was watching the lizards on the ceiling catching bugs, and banging out our shoe's every morning to make sure there were no Scorpions in them.

Wow ! I used to love Nacho's store as well. Some of those firecrackers (especially from China, one we called the atom bomb) were downright dangerous ! My Step-Dad owned a place aout 3 blocks west of JJ's (then the CB bar) from 54 till 71. I wasn't down there till 58. (and wasn't walking yet !) Great memories. I'll be back in Oct '17. First time since '99. Very excited

Fab photo!!!!!

Just love the Coleman and the Chiquita Banana box. The plywood box on wheels is the boat?

I like the spare tire without a wheel too, as well as the Chinese rubber flip-flops!

Stripes shirts musta been de style as well.

HaHa! Yep, that was the style (beach boys) The dog was a CB Mexican loner ! I believe he had a little 19 footer with a catamaran-hull and a nice outboard. There is probably a "Whitaker Pools" pick-up in the foreground. (out of pic) My Father later started towing down a 22 footer with an inboard outboard. (a tri-hulled). Both Mom & Dad were into SCUBA, the old double hosed "Mike Nelson" style. They picked over Pelican to Pinto Pts, and some fishing, and even a little skiing as well. We were down there at least 7 times a year. Boy, Do I have some stories ! Like we used to sneak up to JJ's from the beach and spy on the gi10511303_842216755789963_5737530849286944750_n.jpg rls dancing the twist to early Beatle songs in Spanish. HA !

Any of you remember or deal with the Wilkerson clan who had a shack west of Club de Pesca or Spotts Willis and his place called the Boars Nest?

Doesn't ring a bell, although I was kinda young. My Folks would've I imagine. Cholla was tiny. Everyone always helping get unstuck, etc. ! Hey, Doesn't anyone know if they still use those contraptions to launch the boats. We called them "bugs", with the elevated engines. I guess a ramp would be impractable with the extreme tides ? (Camels?)

My father, who's 88, remembers a Charlie Wilkenson (not Wilkerson) out of Tucson, since the '40's with Whitaker Pools. Not sure of any Cholla connection. Wish my Stepdad was still around. He would surely remember since was there since mid-'50s
